This mushroom was seen by RET when it was collected;
however the specimen (if it exists) is in the
herbarium of Dr. David T. Jenkins (formerly, Univ. of Alabama,
Birmingham). The fruiting body is Amanita
spreta-like—having a brown pileus and a
fragile, grayingsh, submembranous ring on the
stem.
In recent years, we have seen a number of "ringed
ringless amanitas" from the southeastern United States;
this has greatly expanded our understanding of the
group which is now listed on this site as
Amanitastirps
Strobilaceovolvata. It is probable, in
our view, that the present species is one of
the species
now listed or to be listed in the cited
stirps.—R. E. Tulloss
