Yes, I made quite a few SSB QSOs but there were also a few stations with decent signals who couldn't hear me. It seemed like 100 watts on SSB used to do better in the past, I am guessing that the noise floor for many stations has increased thanks to all of the cheap, noisy, hashy switching power supplies in consumer electronics. Anyways, an amp wouldn't fit into the station design very well right now, but I am thinking about replacing the TS2000 with a TS590SG, or a Kenwood TS480HX to get 200 watts. I am leaning towards the 590, though. I wonder if anyone has used the Ten Tec 715 speech processor with their TS590, TS2000, or TS480and did that make SSB have a extra punch to it. Ten Tec claims that it can add 6db of signal or so on SSB. I am using the speech processor on my TS2000, but wonder if this device would work better for SSB. Any experience with it? 73 John AF5CC From bob at farkaly.com Fri Apr 27 13:37:47 2018 From: bob at farkaly.com (Bob Farkaly) Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2018 13:37:47 -0400 Subject: [Kenwood] TS-950S Computer Control Stopped Working Message-ID: <021201d3de4e$75597a50$600c6ef0$@farkaly.com> I have been trying to interface my TS-950S to HRD using a USB device featuring a FTDI chip. My Windows 10 system sees the interface as COM 3 and it appears to be working correctly. However, when I try to connect the computer to the TS-950S, HRD fails to connect and I gat an error message saying: "Cannot read frequency". I have tried about all the combinations of port settings I can imagine with the same non-results. I am thinking the problem is in the TS-950S. I used the A=B/Power CPU reset on the TS-950 but that had no effect. Any thoughts from fellow Kenwood users?
