I recently acquired a TS-820S in mostly nice condition. It needs some work, but one thing I don?t think I can fix is a bad mic gain control, VR5-1, 10kohm, part nr RO8.3912.15. The shaft feels loose and turns freely with no stops. This unit is a dual control with VR5-2 carrier level, also 10kohm, that works OK. Please contact me directly at ae4r at cox.net if you have a spare I might buy or would suggest another solution. Not sure if they have a distro center in Hawaii though. If you have a friend flying there, passengers are allowed to carry small amounts of Li-ion batteries in the cabin, not in checked luggage. Find a location on the top or bottom of the rig where it will fit and neatly run wires to it from the original battery solder points. This certainly makes it easy for future replacement as all you need to do is remove the appropriate cover from the rig. - Lacking a socket or the room, I have also stripped about an inch or so of insulation from small gauge solid wire and formed a loop that is pressed and taped to each side of the battery. Then, the entire battery is covered with heat shrink tubing and the tubing is shrunk. A location is found where the battery will fit and wires are neatly run to the original battery solder points. I have rigs, even mobiles, that are still in service years after this battery replacement implementation.
