Imaginary Records was an independent record label based in Heywood, Lancashire, England, which specialised mainly in indie rock and post-punk.

Their discography included releases by Cud, the Chameleons, The Reegs and the Mock Turtles, who went on to have a major UK hit with "Can You Dig It?".

The label also released a number of artist tribute albums, on which contemporary acts recorded cover versions of influential artists.
Contributors to this series of albums included Sonic Youth, The Membranes, Nirvana, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ride, Screaming Trees and Buffalo Tom.

Omega - "10000 Lépés" {Hungary} [1969] (Prog Psych/Space Rock) (@256)

The most successful Hungarian rock band in history, OMEGA is one of the rare bands to have been known outside in his country. The legend has it that as albums were released in other countries it became necessary to brake the language barrier. Their music is a combination of Eastern European prog with a bit of symphonic and a bit of psyche prog. The result is a dark orchestrated sound combined with extended improvisation. Their discography actually starts in the early 60's, and goes in till today in a more modern register. Several albums were released in Hungarian as well as English. I'd prefer the "accented" English version of the albums. The more so, the music remains the same...

1968 to 1975: OMEGA issued their first Hungarian "Trombitás Frédi és a Rettenetes Emberek" (1968) that became their first golden album. The band sealed their success with two subsequent LPS: "10 000 Lépés" and "Omega 3" / "Éjszakai Országút". Their first releases, such as "Omega 3" / "Éjszakai Országút", "Élö Omega" and "Omega 5" were basically pop rock some very good songs. "200 Years After The Last War" is a brilliant album, solid rock and roll with beautiful ballads.

1976 to 1981: From 1976 to 1981, they released four albums of Progressive Spacey Rock with great arrangements: echoes of PINK FLOYD and ELOY elements. "Time Robber" / "Idõrabló", their best work work, is the most commercial with various electronic "space sounds", though "Skrover" / "Csillagok Útján" is probably the most musically diverse. More albums in the similar style followed: "Gammapolis" / "Gammapolisz" and "Working" / "Az Arc".

1981 to today: Afterwards, the band kept the electronic and pop rock genre with bits of Progressive elements. However, the band's 1980s began to show the obvious signs of creative stagnation. Soon after it 13th album, OMEGA disbanded. After 7 years of long silence, the musicians went on to produce a new album in 1995, "Transcendent" / "Trans and Dance". This release is a good album with nice keyboards playing. Also check out their equally superb album .... their latest "Egy Eletre Szol" (1998). Synkopy - "Xantipa" {Czech Republic} [1973] (Prog Symph Rock)

Synkopy (a.k.a. Synkopy 61) is a Czechoslovakian five-piece (2 keys, guitar, bass, drums, vocals) whose leader and primary songwriter, Oldrich Vesely, was once a member of another great Czech band: Modry Efekt. Many comparisons can be drawn between Synkopy and Modry Efekt, not the least of which is a penchant for experimentation and bringing other styles (hard rock, blues, powerful rock vocals) into the sound and giving them their own progressive twist. Of course, Synkopy, with two keyboard players (Vesely and Pavel Pokorny), are more keyboard driven than Modry Efekt. Slunecni Hodiny burns with powerful melodic vigor, but does suffer from a somewhat substandard production. Kridelini and Flying Time are Czech and English vocal versions of the same album, an outstanding one, maybe even their best: It's one of the few cases where a foreign band sings in English lyrics and really pulls the feat off without sounding shallow. Zrcadla is also a strong one, but far more direct than the others.
Synkopy 61 emerged from Brno in the late 1960s and over the years produced a string of singles, EPs and two mini-albums, just never a full-length long play. Their music is described as beat music with a few progressive touches, and the 10" songs as Uriah Heep-influenced heavy rock. I have not heard any of this early material, but apparently most of it can be found on the Valka je vul (Best of) CD compilation.
After the band broke up, its keyboard player and primary composer Oldrich Veselý joined Modrý Efekt for their two classic albums, Svitanie and Svet Hledacu. It was Svet Hledacu's combination of twin keyboards, heavy guitars, drums and no bass guitar that he used as the blueprint when he set out to re-form his old band, now known simply as Synkopy. Slunecní Hodiny's (CD Bonton BON 493163 2) powerful sound maintains Modrý Efekt's brawny mixture of spacey, symphonic and plain hard-rocking styles, but with inflated melodic splendour and keyboard arrangements. The album forms one unbroken suite with four vocal sections in the middle of synthesizer, guitar, organ and (occasionally) violin blowtorching minor-dominant riffs and melodies across slabs and slabs of metallic string synthesizer chords, while the drummer, subscribing to the Alan White/Jurgen Rosenthal philosophy of hit hard-hit often-hit everywhere, provides most of the impetus with minor help from the clanging Clavinet or the buzzing Micromoog which cover for the absent bass guitar. The music can be majestic but the bombast also veers dangerously close to ponderous and overwrought at times, especially when Veselý's distinctive voice, high-pitched and rough-hewn without being shrill or gruff, is belting out the solemn melodies with a thick wall of harmonies fattening the tone. However, the music has enough variation and energy to avoid slipping into the abyss, and the calmer instrumental sections, such as "Intermezzo", a neatly elegiac cello/violin duet that emerges out of the ashen synthesizer murk, and "Vodopád", a funkish fusion tune with scat vocals, provide well-timed diversion. Sometimes the instrumental sections will remind of Solaris' Marsbéli Kronikák, but with the relative absence of metallic power-chord guitar Slune ní Hodiny is not as heavy as that album (and, frankly, not as good either), though both share the same kind of dark high-tech mood, a technical but not too complex instrumental approach, and a clear grounding in blues-based that gives the symphonic sound a muscular edge. Slunecní Hodiny is rough, tough and on a par with most Modrý Efekt albums (also seems to take some inspiration from the works of the Czech artist Jirí Kolár).

Krídlení is another album-length work with a unifying lyrical theme (just don't ask me what it is), but has a slightly more up-to-date sound than its predecessor, especially on the drums and guitars. It also isn't as cohesive or well-written, winging its way through almost straight-ahead hard-rock ("Kyvadlo"), bluesy rock with cigarette-smoky vocals ("Blues O Výcepu"), or a matter-of-fact unaccompanied guitar solo ("Kytarové Extempore") which are increasingly removed from the symphonic centre of the band's sound. The playing is still energetic and the more dynamic sound allows for more grit and glitter to come through, but the mundane moments proliferate in writing, and what the band could get away with in the acetylene-lit darkness of Slunecní Hodiny tends to sound more conventional and pompous in Krídlení's brighter colours.

Krídlení still has fine musical moments, especially on side two, but overall it sounds like another victim of the same malaise that West European progressive groups had started succumbing to five years earlier: recycling their old glories with more pomp, pop and polish in trying to cope with lack of new ideas and changed musical expectations.

An import version of the album with English vocals overdubbed on the original backing tracks was produced two years later as Flying Time. The new lyrics and vocals are actually pretty successful (the lyrics were written out phonetically for the musicians to get the pronunciation), you just can't hear them very clearly, as they are somewhat smudged by the mix. The CD re-release of Krídlení includes all these vocal tracks as a bonus, slightly edited to account for the missing instrumental tracks and segues. -- Kai Karmanheimo http://www.gepr.net/st.html

Some of my requests & Some albums

Hello friends, In this post i sent some of my wishlist and albums that may be hard to find. Well during 4 years i dive deep to east european & asian psych/progressive bands/artists. Maybe one of the best source at internet are the vinyl shop listings to learn names of different albums/bands, and i am collecting samples/artcovers from these shops for many years. I had an earthquake a few years before on my economy, and i left buying LPs. Umm psychologists say collecting is a kind of obsessive compulsive illness, but some harmless obsessions add taste to this life :) moreover, as much as we Listen the albums instead of Having them, maybe we are doing great to open our mind & heart to life.

Well for some of the albums, even i wanted to listen them, i had no luck to find them. and the prices are high for me to buy. i am posting coverarts,sample songs and album names of the bands, If you have any of them, sending the links to comments or email will make me happy thanks :)


Bayan Mongol Variety Group/Self-titled (Mongolia) (1981)

I saw this post at one of my fav site waxidermy. Sample song is really nice. Something like where mongolian folk meets with rock.
I listened the later album of this band. In their late albums, you may notice its a blend of Khoomei with some traditional instruments. My personal opinion for their late albums: i think you may try other folk albums from the mongolian scene first. What makes this album special for me is maybe its the first attempt that mongolian folk meets with rock. and the sample song is really promising. I saw a site is selling cassette of this album as cheap as 10dollar, however site requests my credit card number without any verification model. So i fear to buy the album directly from there. Dos-Mukasan - Self titled (Kazakhstan) (19XX)

They were called the kazakh beats in time, in a near time group come together after many years later. Well its common thing a group starts with rock, and after being popular, producing more popular works. As far as i know, still a popular band in kazakhstan, however this lp is one of the rarity across Russia Federation, and it goes well with reasonable prices in ebay time to time. I found 2 sample songs from the album. Female voice and the performance is really nice. Pity couldnt find, to listen whole album.

Kola Beldy - Unknown Album (Russia) (196X)

I have 2 albums from Kola Beldy, the rythms and singing style i like a lot. Thanks to Lisa, she found one of Kola Beldy albums for me some months ago. Didnt check the link but i guess it should still work. Well unfortunately i dont know the album name, the sample song i have, not in that 2 albums that i already have. Well there is a story behind, here is some copy paste: Kola Beldy, the first professional folk song singer of the North nations, was Nanai. The history of this people was dramatic and full of secrets. Archaeologists would have to answer many questions about history of Gold empire and Bohai kingdom in the Far East, where Nanai ancestors Jurchin lived. They made metals and cultivated and soil, they were travellers, sellers and soldiers, had schools and towns. Academician A.Okladnikov, the historian and archaeologist expressed a high opinion of culture of the native nations and compared it with ancient Greek and Roman culture. About 780 yers ago Mongolian soldiers destroyed Jurchin state in older to begin war against Russia. Those who stayed alive, hid near rivers and lakes, in taiga and mountains of the Far East. They called themselves Nanai, Udeghei, Orochi... But traditional songs, legends and musical..more here

Orlan - Orlan Ensemble (Russia) (1989) (Bashkir folk jazz)

Jazz band "Orlan" founded by Oleg in 1985 became noticeable phenomenon of Russian jazz scene. Having been fascinated by Bashkir folklore he was the first in Russia who started to practice ethno-approach in jazz. In close relations with folk singers he mastered guttural singing technique, introduced such folk instruments as "kurai" (Bashkir wind instrument) and "kubyz" (Jew's-harp) into his band, went into folk music arrangements and adaptation. In 1989 record company "Melodia" issued "Bashkir legends" LP. "Orlan" had been touring actively all around the country and abroad. World music movement was spreading widely around the globe therefore "Orlan" was accepted with enthusiasm everywhere. for more samples & information you may have a look to offical site.

Those were my requests, Now its time to share some albums. Well i know the albums below, i cant say they are great for everybody. Some will enjoy them more and for some, they are just ok albums., maybe these are the one for passionete hearts, anyway i like them as much as all the posts here.


Gunesh - (first album) (Turkmenistan) (19XX)

Lets start with Gunesh from Turkmenistan. They blend some folk with a nice way of fusion. I wondered this vinyl in time a lot. Well this is split with Abba, so there is only 4 songs in the album, and opposingly to their late albums this is psych folk/beat album. If you never listened gunesh before, downloading that album may make you think they are a psych folk band. well they are not. Gunesh is my one of favorite band from Asia. TRT Ara Müzikleri Volume 1 & 2 (Turkey) (1970s)

...They released 2 volumes of very enjoyable and highly pleasant "easy listening" Turkish music (a bit more at vol 1, as Turkish folk with orchestrations) with a few times odd combinations of styles and some nice and great a-go-go (a bit more at vol 2), and folk crossover styles, including some more light Anatolian crossover Poprock. It's not completely progressive music except for some tracks on vol 2 (like a fantastic Okay Temiz track, but with also additions by Cahit Oben, Zafer Dilek, Timur Selcuk, Onder Bali.), making it's surely interesting to trace... more info here

First time i saw this album, one of Pokora's collector dream series (i dont remember which one). This is a super high price vinyl, and maybe thats why we couldn't see this album here and there when we searched for it. Unfortunately i have no information for the band. Some nice folk with traditional elements waits you in the album. Duets and the voices i like. Any information very welcome.

Farkasok - Rock-Fantázia (Hungary) (1983) (electro symph prog)

New hungarian scene has some awesome artists/bands that enjoy. Some of them Townscream, Cathapilla Project, Korai Örom, Masfel...Back to 70s we have also many colorful bands from the scene, and one of them is Farkasok. Farkasok is a musical performed in theaters and recorded live, has some zeuhlish elements, a good mixture of electronics & prog..Any informations welcome. One of my fav.

Emil Dimitrov - Emil (Bulgaria) (1974)

Another nice scene especially for the power of women choirs (sharing success with Poland for powerful women choirs) and the use of percussions. i like new age prog bands like Om art ensemble, Ishia from new scene. From wiki; "Emil Dimitrov was a popular Bulgarian singer. He made his debut in 1960 and recorded about 30 albums altogether. In the 60s Lili Ivanova and Emil Dimitrov were the most popular singers of modern songs. During the last years of his life he exhibited a talent for drawing as well." Emil Dimitrovs fist albums has some nice prog psych touches, Easy going smooth songs with some good light psych mood.

Not much info on these compilation albums. Booklets only gives info on the bands doing cover songs of classic rock from 1965 and 1966.

Some cool versions of these old classic songs, though.

Pogonophobia "Contra Trast" {Sweden} [2007] (Psychadelic, Space)

Well would can I say they have done it again! This one is more heavy and not so ambient, a perfect mix of space and heavy guitar work and dreamy long synthesizer loop like Tangerine Dream once did it. You will even found some influnces of indian music the improvisation its great specielly on track noumber 2. And I have to say that it sounds like early Ash Ra Tempel at their best moments with dreamy long tracks but the difference is that Pogonophobia its more heavy. So if you like their first one get this one now!

Edgar Brought Band - "Live Hits Harder" {UK} [1976] (Hard Prog Psych) (@256) (kindly submitted by ZenBa)

Eclectic Discs are pleased to announce the release of this classic album by the legendary and infamous Edgar Broughton Band. Live Hits Harder was recorded on the bands "farewell" tour of 1976 and secured a limited release in Switzerland in 1979. This atmospheric album makes its debut on CD with the Eclectic Discs release and features superb live renditions of such classic tracks as Love in the Rain, Hotel Room, Evening Over Rooftops and Side by Side.

The Edgar Broughton Band had been described as proto-punk, heavy rock and underground throughout their career. They were recently (and aptly) described simply as "a bloody good rock band". XTC created the Dukes of Stratosphear almost on a lark, as an excuse to play the kind of music they grew up listening to and playing.

The invention of the pseudonym gave them the opportunity to wear on their sleeves the influences they had only hinted at as XTC.

The Dukes released two records between 1985 and 1987 and they are both compiled in their entirety on Chips from the Chocolate Fireball.

Listening to Chips is like sifting through a '60s psychedelia bin at a good used record store. The only thing missing are the pops and crackles as you drop the needle onto the neglected vinyl.

The best of the era is recreated here with reverence and an amazing attention to detail:

Syd Barrett's childlike lyrics, the Blue Cheer fuzz-guitar frenzy, dissonant Sgt. Pepper strings and horns, and good old Brian Wilson-style indulgences. The record opens with "25 O'Clock," which instantly recalls the Electric Prunes' "I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night." From there the references become more obscure: the Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" is invoked by the bombastic guitar sludge of Sir John Johns (Andy Partridge) and Lord Cornelius Plum (Dave Gregory) on "My Love Explodes," while "Bike Ride to the Moon" is demented enough to have appeared on Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Other high points include the Hollies-inspired "Vanishing Girl" and the Beatles-style piano stomp "You're a Good Man Albert Brown." The record closes with the priceless "Pale and Precious." With its dead-on Wilson brothers harmonies and faux theremin, the song plays like an undiscovered gem from the Beach Boys' Smile sessions. --Paul Ducey

Nairu "Progg i Pocketformat" {Sweden} [200?] (Acid Folk, Progressive)

Here we go again another splended album from Nairu. This one its more darker then the other one and I think it sounds a little bit like Wyrd Visions special the last track "Natt och rop om förr". The album contains slow acoustic fragile sounds mixed with som faster songs we all love it. If you liked the other album here on the blog you would not be disappointed. if you're into beutiful folk music get this one!

December's Children "December's Children" {USA} [1969](Psych)

There is not very much information on this band on the net but they did manage to create a decent Psych album.

The band would appear to be:
Craig Balzer, Bruce Balzer, Bill Petti, Ron Papaled and Alice Popovic. Although I did find a statement by Gary Lorig that he was in the band.

I think I am correct in stating that both Gary Lorig and Bill Petti were in a rockabilly band from the early 60's Jonny And The Vicounts

I am certain that both Bill Petti and Gary Lorig were in that band. I also know that Craig and Bruce Balzer joined the Cleveland Ohio band Circus soon after leaving December's Children, raising the said band from a Bar Room thing to an outfit that would produce some singles that many collectors seek after. Also, the Brothers Balzer formed themselves into a late 70's, early 80's US band American Noise which I would love to hear.

Craig and Bruce left the music business to go into advertising and I do not know much else, but I certainly like the sounds on this album. Nowhere is the guitar playing inadequate - it is always interesting. The lyrical content is more than competant and even though one would feel an attraction to draw similarities to other USA male / female combines vocal groups as Jefferson Airplane they have a very different sound.

Track 01 - Trilogy: i. 2:30 Casino, ii. In Between A Dream, iii. Lady Of The Garden Starts off more Beatlesque if you ask me - slowly and cleverly building to a faster sound for part 2. "Gonna Take A Ride On A Good Ship - Sing Along a Melody!" with nice guitar, then slowing after another minute to the final part of this trilogy. "I am at peace with myself". This is good stuff - very good considering when it was recorded.

Track 02 - Sweet Talkin' Woman is sort of Allman Brothers style and not particularly exciting (as I think the Allman Bros are anyway). That said it is a competant song and fits as a track 02 on an album of this era.

Track 03 - Jane's Song (The Slow One) reminds me of some of the UK folk that was around at this time, and is really good. "We will always be. (Have always been). Will always be (Deep Within our Winter's Sleep)" This is a really good acoustic section reminiscent of CSNY if not better. (I love this song).

Track 04 - Hide The Water sounds similar to CCR and I can almost imaging John Fogerty joining these people in this song - It does have the nice guitar riffs that are generally missing from CCR stuff, if only I didn't have to draw similarities to another band I would love this.

Track 05 - Afternoon starts as an almost country sound but, swiftly gathers a competant Psych feel with it's intelligent lyrical approach and the Guitar Sound. I wonder is that sound Craig or Bruce Balzer. Any info on this band in the commments will be gratefully received.

Track 06 - Slow It Down does not actually slow down the album progression. It seems to Kick in something. A Blues Rock number that also has good lyrical conten along with excellent guitar work. I wonder whether this was rehearsed for a long time or whether the musicians are simply competant at what they are doing. For sure this is simple music - But It Sounds GREAT.

Track 07 - Too Early To Be Late is a sturdy enough composition (all tracks are attributed to Balzer, Balzer & Petti - "It's getting early to be late - Another surfer on a date" Also a Blues influenced song that sounds great to me.

Track 08 - Last Monday Night if it were more melodical 'could' be a Mamas n Papas type song but it has a Brashness and a great guitar riff. Just imagine the M n P's with some rel Funky guitar riffs at the front of the mix.

Track 09 - Back Road Rider certainly allows the woman singer to impress with (YET AGAIN some Great Guitar). I get Janis Joplin a lot from the singing but love the guitar - as it reminds me of my fave guitar man "Deke Leonard" from Man.

Track 10 - Livin' (Way Too Fast) saves the best till last. It has a nice beat, great vocal and could have been an excellent single. Also relating to the Blues, the Psych side is expressed through the Guitar which erupts into a wah wah style lick that attracts. Again this has the female vocals that are real good at creating a Funky - Blues feel. I reckon that other than the Folky song "Jane's Song" this is the best song.

Weighing in at around 43MB for the 192 samples it is quite small. Peronally I enjoyed this one and hope some out there do too.

Spot "ST " {Switzerland} [1971] (Heavy Rock, Blues Rock)

Interesting how small countries can create great bands like Krokodil and Country Lane. This band sounds like a cross between Orangu-Tang and Deep Purple. Spot was an early seventies Swiss offering that showcases some fine heavy rock with a tinge of blues and some excellent guitar playing. Includes versions of Donovan's "Jersey Thursday" and a particularly manic "Sabre Dance". Classic rock. The best of blues rock in Deep Purple-Taste-Led Zeppelin style.The classic 4-piece outfit shows the english strength of heavy blues-rock in fusion with the psychedelic influences of other swiss bands like Krokodil or Country Lane.
Produced by Pacific Sound producer St. Sulke and originally released on swiss folk label Evasion.

Ota Petrina - "Super-Robot" {Checoslovaquia} [1978] (Acid Prog Rock) (@192)

The album contained deeply mournful, slow tracks. Two of these exceeded 10 minutes and were augmented by a string quartet. Petrina also used bottleneck guitar reminiscent of David Gilmour on Obscured by the clouds. Atlantic Ocean "Tranquility Bay" {Sweden} [1970] (Progressiv Rock)

Atlantic Ocean was formed by the ashes of the pop group Quints. That was the embryo to many popular swedish groups like Fläsket Brinner, Jason Fleece, Baltik, Handgjort. I think you know some of the members of the group they were Sten Bergman, Björn J:son Lindh, Jan Bandel, Johnny Mowinckel, Staffan Stenström, Göran Ahlin(Greg Fitzpatrick). When Greg first camed to Sweden he was asked to play with Hannson&Karlsson but he said no thanks and joined Quints. They later changed name to Atlantic Ocean in1967 and signed a contract with CBS in England. But CBS thougt they were to muddled and would not release their album. But the real explanation can be that the inner sleeve is decorate with pictures from the Vietnam war. So Greg takes the master tapes to Finland and relase the record on the Love label. The band disbanned when Greg went to Asia and one half become Fläsket Brinner and the other Jasons Fleece. When Greg then later returned he forms the hippie band Handgjort. Well this is a very peace love and understanding type of record. And the best track have to be the 19 min long track on the B-side. I can also recomend Sten Bergmans solo album very good folk and singer songwriter styled album.

Terje Jesper & Joachim "ST" {Denmark} [1970] (Heavy Rock , Heavy Blues)

Terje Bandholdt on drums, Jesper Schmidt on guitar and Joachim Ussing on bass recorded this album in 1970 for famous Spectator Records in Denmark (Moses / Blues Addicts / Days). These record have been requested so why not upload it! If youre in to bands like Moses, Hairy Chapter etc. Give it a try!

Good God - "Good God" {USA} [1972] (jazz fusion)

"Perhaps the greatest of all "one-shot" progressive / fusion bands in the US (the Dallas-based Master Cylinder might give them a run for their money), Good God recorded a tremendous major label (Atlantic) album and then sunk without a trace. As far as I know, none of these guys (Zeno Sparkles, guitar & vocals; Cotton Kent, keys, sax & vocals; Greg Scott, saxes; John Ransome, bass; Hank Ransome, drums & vocals; plus various guests on additional horns and percussion) subsequently appeared on any later prog or fusion recordings, though Kent pops up as a session man on numerous local R&B dates. Given their instrumental virtuosity and imaginative approach to fusion and progressive rock this is hard to believe, but stranger things have happened. Stylistically, they are more a jazz-rock band (a bit like If or Zzebra, but with some Mahavishnu influence as well) rather than a Progressive rock band. The album contains 4 fine originals, and two covers: Zappa's "King Kong" and McLaughlin's "Dragon Song". One minor quibble: the rather weak vocals on 2 or 3 tracks" -- Dave Wayne, GEPR

Noetra - "Neuf Songes" {France} [1992] (prog/neoclassic)

"Noetra successfully straddled the interface between rock, classical chamber music, and jazz without creating background music or falling prey to avant garde excess... Neuf Songes is a fabulous, very intricate and occasionally dark piece of music with some Canterburyish feeling to it. The pieces are mellow and rolling as well as intense and energetic, the writing is excellent, and there is over 70 minutes of great music. The instrumentation is based around a beautiful clean electric guitar, delicate and tasteful drumming, bass, violin, and oboe/flute with a bunch of other strings and woodwinds helping out. At some points it veers towards a 20th century classical style, where the drums drop out and there is some great woodwind and string polyphony, but for the most part the drumming and bass keep the music moving along at quite a palatable clip for most prog listeners.

Recorded in between November 1979 and August 1981 by a line-up featuring: Jean Lapouge (composer) - guitar, Christian Paboeuf - flute and oboe, Daniel Renault - drums, Denis Lefranc - bass, Pierre Aubert - violin, Pascal Leberre - clarinet and soprano sax, Francis Michaud - tenor sax and flute, Denis Vollet - cello, Claude Lapouge - trombone, Jacques Nobili - trombone, and Laurent Tardif - alto flute". --Based on the uncredited info from GEPR

Dunaj - "Rosol" {Czech} [1990] (avant rock)

"Recorded in 1990, right after the Velvet Revolution, Rosol is one of Dunaj's most powerful achievements. The rhythm section of drummer Pavel Fajt and bassist Vladimír Václavek has never sounded this tight. Their complex patterns propel the songs in a precise direction while constantly shifting their components around. The dual guitar work of Jirí Kolsovsky and Jozef Ostransky is inventive, their detuned tones linking the group's sound to Ne Zhdali, No Safety, and the British avant rock wave of the early '90s. Rosol is a collection of memorable avant prog rock anthems. Here the punk energy of, say, Uz Jsme Doma has been replaced by heavy, tortured atmospheres of rock-in-opposition lineage, which doesn't mean the songs turn out theatrical or bombastic -- far from it, unless you consider Pere Ubu symphonic. Jordi Sabates - "Ocells del Mes Enlla" {Spain} [1975] (prog/fusion)

Following up the excellent yesterday's upload by Nahavanda, this is another fantastic album of exquisite and delicate prog/fusion from the prolific Spanish scene of the 70s. It features great work by Jordi Sabates (also known for his collaborations with Jarka, Pau Riba, Toti Soler, and for a number of solo piano works) on keyboards, accompanied by drums, percussion, bass, electric guitar, some female vocals and flamenco guitar. "Ocells Del Mes Enlla" is an extremely elaborated and inspired effort, very well composed and paced, and executed with brilliance. I would rate it just as high as the best albums by Musica Urbana, Companyia Electrica Dharma, and Iceberg which I consider to be the cream of the crop of the Spanish jazz fusion. Hope you will enjoy this one.

Feliu I Joan Albert - "Feliu I Joan Albert" {Spain} [1977]

Reissue of the sole album of this Catalan duo, Feliu Gasull (Spanish guitar) and Joan Albert Amargós (piano), both cousins. Post-Musica Urbana, originally released by Edigsa in 1977 and never reissued before. Recommended for lovers of Toti Soler, Musica Urbana and progressive in general. Pan - "Pan" {Denmark} [1970] (Heavy Rock, Progressive Rock)

Its a little bit fun how the nordic countries did music. Finland were the home of progressive like Kalevala Elonkurjo and Tasavalan Presidenti. Norway had a lot of rock bands and folk music Junipher Green and Folque are good examples for that and Sweden were a mix of all those countrys and a lot of politics involved in the music. But then we have Denmark the home for heavy blues and rock it sounds more like it would be from the US/UK or something take bands like Terje Jesper & Joachim or Tömrerclaus, Moses etc. How ever this band are really good, great guitar work splended vocals. Its really hard to say what it sounds like but I think that all of you would get your own opinion about that. Well the band was formed by the frenchman Robert Leilevre who was travelling around Europe to escape military service and settled down in Denmark. They only recorded one album but it also exists a DR session that also rocks. The group split becuse of Roberts trouble with his demons that made him hard to work with. He later commited suicide in 1973.
This is the release with just 2 bonus songs I hope you all will be satesfied.

Kazma Kazma - "Catacombs of Love" {Ukraine} [1993] (folk/medieval/avant)

Kazma Kazma is a currently defunct Ukrainian outfit which made quite a statement in the early 1990s with their bold, original treatment of medieval and march music stylistics. The band's debute album called "Dances of Troubadours" featured flabbergasting crossover between modern indi-style songwriting and troubadour tradition, and was just bursting with epatage. The second album, "Catacombs of Love", came out two years later and was a comparatively conservative and reserved effort further exploring the band's interest in medieval music legacy. The compositions are shorter, stylistically straighter and somewhat less inventive. Not as monumental as the first album, it may still be a worthy listening for those who enjoyed "Dances of Troubadours".

I wish I had a better quality copy of this one. Unfortunately, it was only released on tape some 15 years, and time definitely hasn't been kind to that particular cassette which was used as a source for this rip. Still, I am extremely thankful to Alexander Bugerya who digitized this record and made it available at the Ru_Tape community.

I don't have neither cover art, no track-list info for this one. Line-up is also something to guess.

Nazca - "Estacion De Sombra" {Mexico} [1986] (neoclassical/avant)

The second (and the last) studio album by the Mexican experimental outfit, now more in the vein of Univers Zero. Kindly shared by our friend Francisco Ayes.

"Here, string instruments play much more of a significant role than on the band's debut album and there are a lot of simultaneous (yet always different among themselves) passages and interplay between violin, viola, and cello on this album... The seemingly endless tonal and atonal interplay between all of the band members, changes of tempo, mood, and musical directions (dimensions!) in general, the constant development of the arrangements: all of it goes throughout "Estation de sombra", as well as it was on the debut Nazca album - Vitaly Menshikov".

Arsenal - "Unknown Arsenal" {Russia} [1977-1989] (jazz rock)

I remember some friends asked for the earlier albums by Arsenal, such as "With Their Own Hands" and "A Dangerous Game", to be posted at PNF. I gave those titles a listen a couple of days ago, and found them just as good as before. Good old Arsenal seems to be passing the test by time succesfully, so I am seriously thinking about posting all of their worthy albums here. However, before Arsenal's more or less known regular albums appear at PNF, I suggest those interested to check this extensive, 2.5 hr long compilation of the band's archival materials. Made available in 2005, this double CD set features compositions recorded live or in semi-professional, often underground studios in the late 70s and throughout the entire 1980s. Most of the tracks never appeared on the official LPs of the group. What I like about this album is raw, unvarnished character of the music, and an apt proportion between the 'jazz' and 'rock' ingridients. I also enjoy the power of honest musicianship here, I mean the sense of genuineness which originates from the band members playing what's on their minds, not trying to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds (the latter was the problem of Arsenal in the late 80s and from then on). This is Russian jazz rock at its best, enjoy!

Nairu Med Hovet Rasar "Ljudbild" {Sweden} [????] (Acid Folk, Psychadelic)

Sometimes you find groups you have never heard of and you don't know a shit about them. But one thing you knows for sure that is that the music rocks! This sounds like Nick Dracke with fragile guitar and fragile vocals. Or the swedish musician John Holm and sometimes like the dutch folk singer Jan Duindam. For all of you that knows your Ingmar Bergman knows that the song Själsmasturbutören is from the movie Fanny and Alexander. I hope you like it and I think that it exists some more albums with this group write in comments if you want more!
