New: Mixed Media Kits

Excited to have partnered with both North Light Media and PaperArtsy to create two new, limited-edition Mixed-Media Technique Kits that are available exclusively at the North Light online shop. The kits are also being highlighted by Jeannine Stein, Editor of Cloth Paper Scissors, on the Cloth Paper Scissors blog.

The Mixed-Media Techniques Kit with Seth Apter includes my two newest DVDs, with over 4 hours of instruction: 10 Techniques for Mixed-Media Artists and 10 Techniques for Painting Layers in Mixed Media.

This kit also includes a mix -- exclusive to this collection - of 5 of my own paint colors from PaperArtsy that when used together create a surface of rust and patina. These paints are smooth chalk acrylics that quickly dry to a matt finish.

You also get a bonus downloadable video that where I demonstrate my techniques for making rust.

Also included in the kit is a set of 4 PaperArtsy stamps from my newest release. These cling stamps are made from deeply etched, red rubber, are highly detailed, and were designed by me based on elements found within my artwork.

The second kit is the Mixed Media Supplies Kit and includes all the supplies you need to make rust and patina surfaces - everything from Kit #1 except the DVDs.

Webinar Redux

You're Only One Layer Away from Magic

Have you ever been stuck while working on your art because you thought you might ruin it by adding another layer? Does over-thinking bring out your inner critic and limit your willingness to take creative chances?

In this 1-hour webinar from June 2016 that was hosted by the peeps who bring you Cloth Paper Scissors magazine, you will learn mixed-media layering techniques to enhance the depth, complexity and power of your work.

Discover how to push yourself and your art further by letting go and creating without thinking. I  share tips to help you become more comfortable out of your comfort zone by not getting attached to your work, trusting the process, and taking creative risks. My mantra is, You're only one layer away from magic, so grab your paintbrush and tune in. Magic awaits!

This webinar features a recording of a PowerPoint presentation and a demo video on layering pulled from one of my workshop DVDs. You can check it out here.

#ARTifacts: August 2017

Artifacts (plural noun): objects made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest.

ARTifacts (plural noun): a collaborative project for 2017 documenting adventures in art.

Every year I have so many "art memories" from my travels, my teaching, my adventures in NYC, and my studio work. I have decided that 2017 will be the year of ARTifacts where I document my adventures in art for the entire year in a physical book. Here is a glimpse of my August pages.

Always wanting to be inclusive, I turned my project into a no-rules collaboration. Participants were asked to find or make some sort of artist book, planner, scrapbook, 3-ring-binder, folder, or other container to document their creative experiences, whether they be in art, craft, or anything else.  As you can see below, each and every participant put their own creative twist on this project. And it is never too late to join. Email me at shap97@gmail.com if you would like to participate.
