Could ETIs Be Using Faster Than Light Communications?

Abstract

The search for the evidence of other intelligent life in our Galaxy is a challenge that requires the design and building of state of the art receivers/detectors, and the belief that we are not alone fuels my passion for the detection of electromagnetic transmissions leaked or deliberately transmitted from other civilizations.  The methods for the detection of these weak transmissions have been undertaken in the optical (550 to 650 nm) and in the 1 to 5 GHz microwave window for over 20 years by myself and other SETI organizations.  Results from the observations I have undertaken were inconclusive.  The new radio telescope is equipped with more sensitive receivers and more computer power and has a sensitivity of 10-34 W/m2.  This is more sensitive than the Ohio Big Ear when the WOW signal was detected.

I now propose that since we agree any intelligent civilizations that exist in our galaxy would be thousands or millions of years ahead of us, then they may be using more exotic means of communications that we cannot as yet detect.  Manipulating the quantum spin of particles can be one method of Faster than Light (FTL) communication.  I have designed a particle modulation chamber to test the hypothesis that the quantum world is the one true "force" that unites the universe.   Bells theorem touched on this possibility using twin photons produced by decaying protons, although the neutrino and tau and muon particles are more suitable to for the purpose.

Principal Author Biography

Leon Darcy has a B.Sc. in Astronomy and Electrical and Electronics and the engineering certificate (TESA).  He undertook his first Optical SETI experiment using a 12" Newtonian reflector in 1977/1978, and designed and built his first radio telescope for SETI in 1986.  However, this was not sensitive enough so he designed a radio interferometer synthesis telescope in 1988 which is now erected at Bungonia.  Mr. Darcy assisted Ragbir Bhathal by building the coincidence PMT equipped photon detector head for use on the 0.4 meter Meade SCT in the OZ OSETI program.  As a team member, Leon Darcy assisted with tuning the instruments during observing runs for Dr. Bhathal.
