What Kind Of Summer Is The Summer Of 2006?

It's a Summer of Soda!

Our Mission

To drink one non-standard soda per day for the entire summer, and report our findings without fear or favor, drinking as much of the grody ones as we can, while always keeping in mind the grodiness is in the tongue of the be-taster.

Previously on Summer of Soda:

Nehi Orange

Apple Beer

Pangleheimers

A) What defines "soda"? Carbonation? Sugar or corn syrup as an ingredient? Do "diet sodas" count? What about a flavored but not sweetened seltzer? What about a flavored seltzer sweetened with artificial sweetener?

B)How many different versions of Pepsi and Coke are available now?

C) "When I'm hungry, I eat. When I'm thirsty, I drink. When I'm _____________, I _________." Provide options, and discuss the implications of each.

With best wishes,

Wow. Kudos to the spambots for acting with such alacrity.

(This is of course aimed solely at mistah charley, rather than my good friend mlhm5.)

Stewart's black cherry soda vintage last week a good week for cherry sodas, very good and will bloat you like a toad.

As I sat at the table the waiter brought me a bottle and asked me if I would like to sniff the bottle cap, I said yes.

Hmm, I fine buck-ette, smells like aluminum from the Burgundy part of France circa, mm, my best guess March of 2003.

By the way, coca cola makes a good degreaser for your car's engine, shake well and spray liberally over your engine, wait ten minutes and rinse with cool clean water. It is also good for cleaning the crud you get on your battery posts works in a jiffy. Just imagine what it does to your stomach.

Speaking of "beechwood aging" - you do this by throwing some boards into the steel or glass-lined tank.

Rob -

In addition to its function as an excellent engine degreaser, Coca Cola also etches gallium arsenide (for microchips for cell phones and other similar applications) quite well. That's why almost all microchips are made in Asia these days.... There is Coke there, but the locals don't drink it - they use it in their microchip foundries.

I can't be the only nerd who reads this blog.

Aaron,

Interesting you should bring up chips. I used to work for Lam Research where I worked and did some design work on their robotic chip etching machines though this the first time I ever heard of using coke to etch chips. This should make an interesting combination for Americans who do drink coke. We are all polluted with mercury from the oil companies spewing it in the air and our stomachs are etched like chips, we're walking, talking computerized thermometers!
