At 900 PM EST...An intensifying low pressure system with an
estimated central pressure of 990 mb...29.23 inches...had tracked
just south of Long Island and was moving northeast toward the Cape
Cod area in southeastern Massachusetts. National Weather Service
Doppler radars and surface observations indicated a large area of
snow, locally heavy, was overspreading much of interior New
England. A narrow band of sleet and freezing rain was falling
closer to the coast, roughly along the I-84 corridor. Meanwhile,
rain was the primary precipitation type across southeastern New
England. Wind gusts was increasing to around 60 mph along the
coast as the intensifying low was passing just offshore.

The intensifying low pressure system near southeastern New England
is expected to move rapidly east-northeast across the Gulf of
Maine this afternoon. Snow, sleet and freezing rain currently
impacting New England will begin to taper off from west to east
during the afternoon as the storm moves away toward the Canadian
Maritimes. Storm total snowfall amounts are expected to range
from 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts from central
Appalachians northeastward into interior New England.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 400 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
