Storm Summary Number 11 for Southern Plains to Southeastern U.S.
Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
400 AM EST Mon Dec 10 2018
...A major winter storm continues to wind down across parts of the
Southern Appalachians and Tidewater of Virginia...
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories stretch from
the southern Appalachians to the Tidewater.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 300 AM EST...A low pressure system with a central pressure of
1000 mb, 29.53 inches of mercury, was located off of the Carolina
Coast. This system was moving northeastward further offshore of
the Southeast coast. Aloft, an eastward moving upper level
disturbance was located over Georgia. Moisture streaming ahead of
the upper level disturbance was overrunning the frontal boundary
allowing for precipitation across the southern Mid-Atlantic.
National Weather Service radar and surface observations indicated
a weakening of precipitation bands as the low continued to occlude
and drift into the Atlantic. A wintry mix and light snow were
falling over central Virginia, the Carolinas and northeastern
Tennessee. Light to moderate rain observed in southeast Virginia
and northeastern North Carolina.
