Tropical Depression Three -
June 15-22,
1967
A tropical depression formed east of Florida on June 14 in the vicinity
of an upper level low. The system
circumnavigated its southeast through northeast side, blocked by a
subtropical ridge to its northeast offshore
the Mid-Atlantic states. The depression moved northwest and made
landfall in South Carolina on the evening
of June 17. The system recurved into North Carolina as it rounded
the subtropical ridge axis ahead of an
invading cold front from the northwest. Soon after moving
offshore the Mid-Atlantic states on the 19th,
the depression became an extratropical low which occluded just offshore
New England on the 20th. By the
22nd, the low moved into Nova Scotia as it continued
northeastward. Below are the storm total rainfall maps
for the
depression, using data
provided by the National Climatic Data Center.
