Etsy Update - Gnomes, Owls, Enchanted Doors, Silhouettes and More...

Just thought I'd share a few recent updates to the shop...

Most recent addition - a Jewelry set of necklace and earrings.

I found the cutest Gnome House...

So I added a pink glass pear to give it a little color and a feminine touch. It's hard to photograph a delicate pink that shows up.  All I can do is assure you it's more pink in person.  *shrug*

And what good is a Gnome House without Gnomes?  These gnomes are so darn cute - they stand on their own and everything.  Very detailed.

I debated selling them separately, but they are too darn cute not to go together.

I also added some silhouettes to the shop - of course.  But the reason I needed to add a bunch was I had a large order this week - I still need to make new bigger silhouettes, but for now I added these.

So sweet - in my favorite frames.  Funny thing is, no sooner did I put it in the shop then it sold within about 2 hours.  Wow!  So here I am with another set.

Totally new to the shop:  Owl Earrings!  So cute - hoo hoo.

And finally, for now, I added a cool new piece - a Gothic Fairy Door with a beautiful chain of connecting Pearls.  So pretty and romantic!!

Please check out my shop for more!!  Have a Good Weekend!

Happy 2015!! Stay warm with Greek bread and Cute Fox Scarves!

New Year's is pretty low key in our house.  Mostly we watch movies or marathons on TV (Breaking Bad this year - pretty good show!).  But we also baked traditional Greek New Year's bread - Vasilopita.

Basically it is just a bread with a coin wrapped in foil baked inside.  Whoever cuts the piece that has the coin has good luck that year.  You can use a variety of dough recipes or even make it a cake.  We took another stab at making Tsoureki.  It's a kind of sweet, slightly heavy bread.  It came out rather thick.  Smelled fantastic as it baked.

Here's a pic:

It's supposed to say 2015.  This one showed up the best, the other one looked scrambled.

So far 2015 has been pretty peaceful, but it is, of course, COLD!  Tomorrow is supposed to be 9 F at the warmest here.  Brrrr!!  We ended up making some scarves.  I put one in the shop as it is too cute not to share!

Who doesn't love a cute Fox face??

They are so cute and cheerful - put a smile on my face every time!

You can get one HERE.

Stay warm!!!

Fashion Fri - I mean Saturday: Cute AND Practical Sandals

Is anyone else as frustrated as I am at the lack of cute practical sandals in the stores? For over a decade or so I've mourned the lack of decent sandals to wear with shorts or pants when running around in the spring and summer.

It seems to me sandals are sorted into two categories these days: Super Dressy Tart (high heels and bling) or Rock Climbing Butch. So they are either too fancy to wear every day or they are super athletic (not to mention ugly) and the exact same style being sold in the mens department. Ugh.

Well the other day I searched zappos.com for some alternatives and found these:

Wedge sandals by Cordani. Only problem is they are $180 and I wasn't quite prepared to shell that much money on a shoe I can't even try on so I went to Amazon and found the exact same shoe for much less! The dark brown ones were $126 - still pricey, but the gray ones were $75 or so.

They have since run out of this color, but they still have the more expensive 'black' (I think it is really dark brown) ones. Only a few left so if you are interested hurry up and buy them. They arrived super fast even with free shipping and they are very comfy and nice looking in person. Exactly what I wanted. I'd buy the other color, too, but I'm still on a budget.

So my mother saw the sandals and loved them so much she was going to buy some until she found these sandals by the same company:

Cute, huh? She snatched them up as there were only a few left. I'm not sure how practical red sandals are, but they were too cute to pass up.
And then I saw these recommended under the listing for those shoes and ended up buying these by Jambu.

So, long story short - I'm all ready for sandal season. LOL I can't wait to wear my new shoes!

All shoes are available at Amazon as of 3/3/12. Some may be available at Zappos, but more expensive. Sorry for lack of links, but it is 2 in the morning and I'm tired. Zzzzz...

Anybody else know of a good sandal available out there? My requirements are good arch support, a bit of a heel, but not too high and they must be CUTE. :)

Have a Great Weekend!

Fashion Friday - Spring Inspiration

Yesterday it was in the 60's and today there is a strong wind and it was so cold it snowed briefly. Brr! I found myself looking longingly at my favorite spring/summer dress that is currently providing inspiration on my dressform 'Chloe.'

Dress: Target last summer

Necklace: My Shop

Trunk: Tuesday Morning

I was recently saddened by Emily Martin (Black Apple)'s decision to post on her blog that she's no longer interested in posting about fashion and sharing her unique clothing ideas. I was first drawn to her blog for her fashion posts and ended up going through all her past posts, too. It was rather inspiring and fun.

I understand that her interests have changed and she's very busy with her work, but I can't help feeling disappointed. So, I just thought I'd post about a pretty dress and try to keep my spirits up until the weather gets warm again...

The necklace is one of my favorites, a miniature working brass telescope. It reminds me of Jane Austen's Persuasion. I imagine Anne Elliot looking through it while waiting for her Captain Wentworth's ship to return.

There is
another one up in my shop if anyone is interested, FYI.

And the little trunk in the first picture is a cute one my mother bought at Tuesday Morning just a few weeks ago. It has a large Ferris Wheel and French text. Such a great combo. ;)

If anyone knows of other cute fashion blogs can you comment and tell me? I'm desperate for some inspiration! Happy Friday!

Best of Both Worlds - High Tech meets Retro Steampunk

I got an iPhone about a year and a half ago and I love it. I love the apps, the ease to text, the Internet access - everything. But I'm a retro gal - I like an old fashioned look. Even as a teen I hid my TV and stereo in my armoire so there was nothing modern sticking out in my room.

So last summer I found these cute covers for iPhones at Pottery Barn:

I hardly use it because I love using the phone so much, but it is nice to have, especially if I'm worried about scratching it in my purse, etc.

They are long gone from Pottery Barn now. They also had cute iPad covers with typewriters on them and iPod covers with little gramaphones on them. Very cute, but since I don't have those I didn't get them.

As I was searching I found this cool looking docking station they used to have:

Aww, isn't that cute? Not available at the stores anymore, but probably they have them on Ebay.

And I'd love to get an iPad someday, if I did I'd probably get something like this to store them in:

Cute! Available at thisnext.com

Got a Hankie?

I do not by any means have the largest handkerchief collection. (Though I think my Fairy Vintage Godmother does...) I do, however, enjoy collecting them and have ever since high school. I have both modern and vintage - I thought I'd share a few pics of my favorites...

Modern -
some of these actually might better qualify as scarves, but are all square or rectangular and could be both.

First off, my absolute fave:

I love the shade of blue plus the beautiful designs on it - it's just perfect.

This one is actually kind of vintage - it was my mum's and I think maybe '70's?? It was big enough to tie up in my hair in a pony tail. Very cute.

This one is good for funerals...
And this one I can't believe I bought at Old Navy years ago. They don't carry too much 'pretty' stuff anymore - more trendy items these days. This is either Old Navy, or most likely Target. I love the tiny blue flowers.
Vintage -
These are genuine, bonafide hankies and a wide variety...
I love delicate borders like these and white on white embroidery. Subtle and pretty.
This one I found in St. Charles at an Antique shop on Mother's Day. Perfect timing since it has my mom's name on it...
A close up - can you believe the detailing?? I love this one! It's a delicate pink with white embroidery.
I love embroidered flowers...

A pretty border...

Some are more flamboyant...
And in desperate need of ironing...sorry.
And this is another favorite... Hope you enjoyed these.
