20-J = Joop

The challenging letter of this week is J and I've chosen for the name Joop

This post is an introduction to all of you...
meet my husband, Johannes Wilhelmus Antonius, called in short: Joop
(This photo is taken on June 4th 2016, on Joops' 59th birthday)

We met on Sunday May 15th 1977 and became friends, part of a larger group with no couples in it at that time. Due to an accident on 28th of October 1979 I broke my back and landed in hospital for almost a year. He and (just) one other friend (who died 29th of december 2015 at the age of 58 due to cancer after her husband died in 2000 at the age of 54 due to cancer also. She left behind 4 young childeren, the youngest one was just 5 months old at the time her husband died) stayed at my side.

8th of June 1980 we became officially a couple. On the 25th of December 1980 we got engaged and on the 28th of April 1983 we started living together. On the 9th of December 1983 we got married. On the 10th of January 1985 we became parents of our daughter and she became a sister on 29th of November 1990 when her brother was born. On 13th of March 2013 we became grandparents.

We have survived lots of anguish which almost drove us apart but we wouldn't give in so we fought for our marriage, ourselves and our "significant other" and we succeeded!

Still going strong together and with full intent to keep it that way!

 Have a nice ABC-Wednesday-day / - week

J is for Jade

Rebecca Jade is a very eclectic singer working out of San Diego, California. From this interview: "She’s an artist similar to a chameleon, able to change her styles and genre with little effort, and her audience is able to pick up her emotions in a song during her performances."

She appears with several different groups including the dance band Siren's Crush, the trip-hopping The Jade Element and the R&B, soul, blues and funk cover band The Soultones. She also sings jazz with various bands. Here she is singing All This Love with El DeBarge in November 2015.

Reverbnation said: "Growing up in a musical home, she has been exposed to a vast assortment of artists, genres and styles. Her own mother was a professional jazz singer in Puerto Rico. With such influences, it seems a natural progression that Rebecca has followed in her footsteps."

Check out her website,  her videos, and an interview in Huffington Post.

Oh, did I mention that she is my oldest niece, the daughter of my older of my two sisters, Leslie. I've known her since she was about a month old and living in New York City. I've seen her play basketball in college, fortunately when she was in the east coast.

But I have seen her sometimes on the west coast - e.g. high school and college graduation, and her 2005 wedding to her Rico, on my birthday (for reasons having nothing to do with me).

I am very proud of her, as though you could not tell.

J..... my greatest joy in music

Mrs. Nesbitts' ABC-Wednesday ~ 17-J

abc-w-17J

Yesss, my turn again! Yeeeejjjjjjjj!! The letter J is on turn, one of my favorites! This entry will be about my greatest passion, music, and specifically JEANS (of course!!) I think that most of you don't know what Jeans is.. at least the non-Dutch of you. JEANS started in 1983 by Dick van den Ende, who passed away February 23 of 2014.

At the beginning he had an idea! Musical & musical-like theater shows became quite popular in The Netherlands and every producer of something like that was looking for young talented people. At those time there were not too many schools for that kind of 'job'. Nowadays that's a whole different story. He searched for a group of young talented people and created a first show and JEANS was born. Since then the cast members change very often, every season new talents arise. Some stay only one season, others stay longer for more seasons before they go ahead on another path in the music business.

Ever since show 7 I am, as they say, 'hooked, line and sinker'. Every summer I spent my time searching for info about the newbies and the dates of the shows throughout the whole country and reserve, of course, many tickets for different theaters to visit them over the autumn and winter months. Every show contains aproximately 50-70 songs wich everybody knows, so the public can sing along during a show. I always see public in very different ages; JEANS is for the young but also the 'old'. Every show is totaly different from the previous one. Full of singing, dancing and in many other ways performing. I totally adore the format as some cast members I have became friends with.

Next season is show 28th in year 25 because the first 3 shows were performed over 6 years. Comming season will start with the first show of the regular version on september 25th. I can't wait, you might have guessed that already. Monday, September 28th, there will be one jubilee show in which will many old Jeans-members re-appear. I can't wait for that either ;-) I can be a very patient person but when it comes to Jeans i am totally the way around, impatient to the max, from one show to the next.

During one season I visited the show probably 15 times . The first and the last one I never skip!! Always in tears turning home, sad that it's over and thankful for the season i have enjoyed so much! If you want to listen to some of their music just go to youtube and type in: Jeans theater shows.... and then you will get lots of video's from different shows. Have a blast of fun with it and of course with this week's challenge for the letter J at Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC-Wednesday

J is for Jump

ChrisJ asked me this question on my blog, which I'll post here:

"I try to comment on 7 or 8 ABCers but JUST randomly. Do your commenters have a system or are they random too?"

My response, with an addendum:

I assign all the (currently seven) readers to (currently) 12 numbers, 1-12, 13-24. etc. Usually I try to mix up the list so that they get to JUMP around and visit different people, on the (sometimes false) theory that most people post roughly at the same time each week.

Personally, I try to visit everyone who JOINS us in this JOURNEY, eventually (though the last ones might be over the weekend), so that, theoretically, two people from ABCW has visited everyone. I'm trying to keep people from feeling JILTED.

Now the participants should JUMP around and visit as the spirit moves.

We are trying not to have people JUMP through too many hoops, but that I will e-mail folks who, the team has JUDGED, don't mention ABC Wednesday or have an obvious theme. In the worst case scenario, I can JETTISON folks from the Linky roster, but I get no JOY in that.

One last thing: the starting time may get slightly JOSTLED about during these weeks when US Daylight Saving Time and British Summer Time are not JOINED together. It happens for three weeks in March and one in late October.

Let's have some JUMP songs:

Jump - Van Halen, a #1 hit in the US Billboard charts for five weeks in 1984
Jump - Aztec Camera, a cover of the Van Halen song, and a totally different reading

Jump(For My Love) - Pointer Sisters, a #3 hit in the US Billboard charts for two weeks, also in 1984

There are several totally different songs called Jump that have been in the charts, including by Kris Kross (#1 in 1992), Movement (#52 in 1992), Flo Rida with Nelly Furtado (#54 in 2009), Aretha Franklin (#72 in 1976), Loverboy (#101 in 1982), and Madonna (#1054 in 2006).

What else?

Jump Back - Rufus Thomas (#49 in 1964)

Jump into the Fire - Harry Nilsson (#27 in 1972)

Jump Jive An' Wail - The Brian Setzer Orchestra (#23 in 1998), a cover of the classic Louis Prima version

Jumpin Jack Flash - The Rolling Stones (#3 in 1968)

J is for JOURNEY

Ralph Waldo Emerson stated that "life is a journey, not a destination."

With that in mind, I regret to tell  you all that I will have to take
one of the forks in the road and temporarily leave ABC Wednesday behind.

Unfortunately, my new husband's health is such that I want to spend every possible moment
with him as we will journey together towards the destination that God may have in mind for him.
We don't know how long the journey will be, but as we travel this difficult path,
we don't want to miss out on one minute of the ride.

One day I hope to return to be part of this amazing group of people whose paths have crossed
to share life's ups and downs, hopes, and dreams.  If possible, I will pop in now and then
to let you know how things are progressing.

In the meantime, your prayers would be gratefully accepted.

And so we begin our journey

JUST for one week...

Just for one week only ABC Wednesday is proud to introduce a very special contributor - Big Bird from Sesame Street and here is his(?) very own J poem.

Today I wrote a poem
And I put it in my book
It's about a certain letter
That's shaped sort of like a hook
It's a very special letter
And I like it quite a lot
The big one has a line on top
The small one has a dot
It comes at the beginning of a word like jellybeans
Or John, or Jane, or Jenny
Or a brand-new pair of jeans
You'll find it in the alphabet
Between the I and K
And if you haven't guessed by now
Well, it's the letter J

J is for JOKES

Okay, since everyone has probably had to get back on track and into their routines after summer holidays, I thought we needed something to amuse us.  So ... to give you a jolly for each day this week, here are seven corny JOKES:

1.  "Doc, I can't stop singing the 'Green Green Grass of Home."  "That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome," said the Doc.  "Is that common?" I asked.  "It's not unusual," he replied.
Note from moi:  He just keeps getting sexier every year!  Right, ladies?

2.  I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.

3.  I rang up the local telephone company and I said, ''I want to report a nuisance caller.''He said, ''Not you again!''

4.  A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. ''But why?'' they asked, as they moved off. ''Because,'' he said, ''I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.''

5.  A three-legged dog walks into a bar and says, "I'm lookin' fer the guy who shot my paw!"

6.   Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly. But when they lit a fire in the craft, it sank, proving once and for all that you can't have your kayak and heat it, too.

7.  and finally,

And with all those groans I can hear all the way through my 'puter, have a
JOLLY JOKEY week!

J is for Jonquil

J is for joyful, jazzy, jumping, jonquils.
abcwedJintroDSCN4579
Jonquil is a color as well as a flower. The name for the color came from the flower name: Narcissus jonquilla. The flowers above are the color jonquil but they are another variety. However, jonquil has also become a common name which could refer to the flowers above. Jump right in and join us for the letter J.

JONQUIL

Just J

Jumping Jehoshaphat before you can say Jack Robinson its time to play ABC Wednesday again. No doubt we will learn something, possibly who on earth was Jack Robinson. Was it a very volatile gentleman of that name who used to play flying visits to his neighbours, and was no sooner arriving then he was off again. Or was it a jolly Jack Tar who returned to find his love, tired of waiting, married to another, so he quickly left.

The tenth letter of the alphabet is a modern introduction, only differentiated from I in the 17th Century. It was medieval practice to lengthen the I when it was the initial letter, usually with the consonant function now assumed by J. Just think if that had not happened we would be doing K this week. However I will try not to confuse and assure and confirm this week it is indeed ... J.

So by Jove its time for high jinks, jeu d'esprit and jottings. Time to be taken on a journey that could be judicious, joyful or a jump into the unknown, one never knows until clicking on the link. So Join the jamboree and add your link below.
