ABC-Wednesday - 19-Q

abcw19groot  Mrs. Nesbitt's

ABC-Wednesday

Round 19-Q

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photomeme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week.
I’m always curious to what you come up with!

The challenging letter of this week is the and I've chosen for the word Quest

Coming again to the letter Q, searching for an appropriate word, I realized that filling in some letters truly is a quest.
Just joined ABC Wednesday, its the 5th time that I have to fill in this letter and that is not that easy, especially for someone who's native tongue is an other then the English one.
But for this time, I've succeeded. Next time?...Time will tell won't it? *smile*

So many things can be categorized under 'quest'... can't they?
I would like to say that life in itself is a quest, at least to me it is. Always trying to look for the bright side, however dark some moments can be.

Another quest, in which I find lots and lots of joy is going out with my camera, the quest for beautiful things to capture so that I whenever I want or need to, can relive that moment and re-feel the joy to that I had at the moment of capture. Photographing is my favorite quest, as you might have guessed by now. Its a quest which gives pleasure, lots of it, and who does not want to have that?

 What is your favorite quest?

Q is for quiet

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who participate is this wonderful photomeme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week. Always curious to what everyone of you comes up with.

This week's challenging letter is Q. The word I've chosen this time is "QUIET". On the photo you see Nigel Brown. He is a Dutch performing artist and for the past 4 years part of the cast of JEANS. 25 September 2015 started the new season.

At this particular moment in the show... he stands on stage all by himself with 1 of the 4 musicians behind him and together they perform the Jeans-version of "Bridge over Troubled Water" which is the most 'special' moment in this new show, not only for me but for many other people to, other cast- & crew members and fans as well.

I 'hear' you thinking: "why?" The 30th of July a very dear friend of mine passed away and on his funeral this song was played. That friend of mine has worked for JEANS since 1997... so almost all of JEANS-related people know (of) him, worked with him and loved him, maybe even more than I did and still do. This season, in every show, Nigel sings that song ... which most of the times makes me cry, of course. But still... the most beautiful part of this seasons show for me!

Quiet... because we all miss that friend... Quiet... in prayers and talks to remember him ... Quiet... listening, feeling Nigel's (& mine) love for that special friend, none of us will ever forget. Quiet... in gratitude for having known... and love him. Wishing you many of those special 'quiet'-moments to remember and cherish the good things and people in your life! ♫ M e l ☺ d y ♫

Q is for questions

When I Googled the word questions, the very first result I got was Great Questions, from the website StoryCorps, which, for the last decade, has been recording people telling their stories.

A few examples of questions:

•Who has been the most important person in your life? Can you tell me about him or her?
•What was the happiest moment of your life? The saddest?
•Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
•Who has been the kindest to you in your life?
•What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?
•What is your earliest memory?

It occurred to me that a blogger, stuck for content, could create a meme - actually, several - in answering some of these questions.

A few questioning songs:

Chicago - Questions 67 And 68
Question Mark and the Mysterians - 96 Tears
The Moody Blues- Question

From the latter:

Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war?
Because the truth is hard to swallow
That's what the war of love is for.

Q for Quinquireme

Cargoes       by John Masefield.

Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophire,

Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine,

With a cargo of ivory,

And apes and peacocks,

Sandalwood, cedar wood and sweet white wine.

Stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus,

Dipping through  the Tropics by the palm-green shores,

With a cargo of diamonds

Emeralds, amethysts,

Topazes and cinnamon  and gold moidores.

Dirty British Coaster with a salt-caked smoke stack,

Butting through the Channel in the mid March days,

With a cargo of Tyne coal,

Road-rails, pig-lead,

Firewood, iron-ware, and cheap tin trays.

Quinquireme.

An ancient Roman or Greek galley of a kind believed to have three banks of oars. The oars in the top two banks being rowed by pairs of oarsmen and the oars in the bottom bank being rowed by single oarsmen.

My thanks to the quick witted Denise for devising ABCW and to Roger our quintessential administrator.

Q is for Quack

The quiet of the morning is broken by the quack quack quacking of the ducks and some geese honking too.

abcquackDSCN2309b

I've also seen a quack or two in my time but that's another story. I knew that a quack means someone who promoted unproven or fraudulent medical practices. I didn't know that the origin of quack comes from the archaic word quacksalver which has Dutch origins (kwakzalver in contemporary Dutch). The word literally means hawker of salve. In the middle ages the word quack meant shouting. I have paraphrased and copied this information from wikipedia. So without anymore quacking from me, link up and visit each other for some Q fun.

Q - like Quotes

Now that we arrived at the letter Q, I thought "Quotes" would be the right word. At least it starts with a "Q".

But what is the meaning of a quote ?

I googled and here is the explanation :

According to the free Dictionary a quote is :

1. To repeat or copy the words of (another), usually with acknowledgment of the source.
2. To cite or refer to for illustration or proof.
3. To repeat a brief passage or excerpt from: The saxophonist quoted a Duke Ellington melody in his solo.
4. To state (a price) for securities, goods, or services.

And if you need quotes to show how intelligent you are then go to the Quote Garden choose what you want and pretend that it is from you !

I choose "Quotations" : I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized wiser than oneself. ~Marlene Dietrich  Gattina

Q is for questions?

Were you aware of a comic book villain named the Riddler, whose garb always featured one or more question marks? Did you know that, on the campy 1960s TV show Batman, the Riddler, who was usually played by Frank Gorshin (pictured), was once played by John Astin?

Are you familiar with the song Question by the Moody Blues [LISTEN], which got up to #21 on the Billboard charts in 1970? Do you recognize Questions 67 And 68 by Chicago [LISTEN], ne the Chicago Transit Authority, which got only to #71 in 1969, but was re-released and went to #24 in 1971?

Should I introduce you to the group ? [question mark] and the Mysterians? Have you heard their hit, 96 Tears [LISTEN], which got up to #1 in 1966?

Did you know that when you enter your link onto that Linky thing at ABC Wednesday, one or more of our team will come to visit your post? Were you informed that you should check the Linky link to make sure it works with your post? Have you read in the rules that your post should both mention ABC Wednesday AND have an appropriate mention of the week's letter, such as Q is for Quotations?

Am I excited to see what quaint, quirky items you are going to share this week?

The Q's have it!

Quiet in the house!

       The lights dim.

               Cue Q to center stage.

Ladies and Gentleman, introducing the quixotic letter Q, who rarely travels without his companion U.   They drink quinine water to quaff their thirst while never quiting or quaking at righting wrongs.   They certainly never quibble or quarrel over petty matters.  Together they have been celebrated by at least a quintet of artists!  Cervantes made sure they are quoted often.

Good Denizens of ABC Wednesday, please do not go into quarantine but join the quest for more Q’s!

All participants will qualify to join Harry Potter for a game of Quidditch.   Or, well, how about quoits if you quiver at the thought of careening through the air on a broom stick!

Q

As swift as QUICKSILVER, no QUESTON about it, the week has turned, so QED, its time to QUEST for the letter Q.  If we had a Latin motto for ABC Wednesday would it be Terence's "QUOT homines tot sententiae" (as many minds as men) that is there are as many opinions as there are people to hold them.

I always think Q is a pretty letter it lends itself to curls and swirls. It also is usually followed with a U. The QUESTION is how many Q words do not?   Well there is:
QANAT - an underground tunnel for carrying irrigation water;
QASIDA - an Arabic poem of praise or mourning;
QAWWALI - sufi music
QIGONG (a breathing meditation)
QIVIUT - the wool of the artic musk ox

QUITE evidently these words have come from other languages (Arabic, Chinese and Inuit). So useful when we have not got the word, just look at the QUINTESSENCE of QIVIUT
