The Best Friend The Soviets Ever Had

There are many labels: but I'll stick to what I know. Sen. Ted Kennedy was the best friend the Soviet Union had in my life time. Here's a portion of an article detailing the some "constituent services" offered to then Soviet Leader Yuri Andropov:

from American Thinker:

Rick Moran
Some would go farther and say that the memorandum from Victor Chebrikov, the top man at the KGB that was addressed to Yuri Andropov, the top man in the entire USSR, outlining a secret proposal made by Senator Ted Kennedy to the Soviets to help them "understand Reagan" in return for their help in making him president, constitutes treason.

It's not a word to throw around lightly and the reason I refrain from using it is because I am unsure Kennedy's actions meet the definition. Kennedy was not in direct contact with Andropov, using his good friend John Tunney, former senator from California, as a messenger boy to deliver the proposal to the Soviets. And he wasn't proposing to betray any secrets.

...

Kennedy's message was simple. He proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. "The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations," the memorandum stated. "These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign."

Kennedy made Andropov a couple of specific offers.

First he offered to visit Moscow. "The main purpose of the meeting, according to the senator, would be to arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they may be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA." Kennedy would help the Soviets deal with Reagan by telling them how to brush up their propaganda.

Then he offered to make it possible for Andropov to sit down for a few interviews on American television. "A direct appeal ... to the American people will, without a doubt, attract a great deal of attention and interest in the country. ... If the proposal is recognized as worthy, then Kennedy and his friends will bring about suitable steps to have representatives of the largest television companies in the USA contact Y.V. Andropov for an invitation to Moscow for the interviews. ...

Pravda: Russian for Truth

pravda (RU) ^ | 27.04.2009 | Stanislav Mishin

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?

These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters.

Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.

So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.

Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "freeman" whimper.

So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.

The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.

The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

Proof of a God in Heaven?

From businessandmedia.org

Sometime you really have wonder at what cost some are willing to see their political ideology advanced.

To liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, the bounds are seemingly endless. Moore has made a recent career out of attacking President George W. Bush, bashing conservatives and criticizing business. His latest outrage occurred on MSNBC’s August 29 “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” and when he commented about the coincidental timing of an unfortunate disaster – the potential for Hurricane Gustav to make landfall at the beginning of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.

“I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,” Moore said, laughing. “To have it planned at the same time – that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican Convention, up in the Twin Cities – at the top of the Mississippi River.”

After that comment, Moore backed off a bit and did say he hoped nobody got hurt and he hoped everybody is taking cover. However, he failed to make note of the $43.625 billion in damage the last hurricane to strike New Orleans caused – Hurricane Katrina in 2005 – and the billions of dollars the storm cost taxpayers.

If it is proof of a God in Heaven then one needs to wonder why God is reigning death and destruction on one of the most fervently Democratic cities in the USA, while the Florida panhandle (solidly conservative), Mississippi (solidly conservative), Alabama (solidly conservative) and Houston (solidly conservative) are all spared. Also devastated by Hurricane Gustav: Cuba, spiritual homeland of all Democrats.

If the levees break again, this might be the final blow to New Orleans, like abandoning Sodom and Gomorrah, let everyone leave and not look back longingly.

Obama Explained

Yes I'm still alive. I'm very busy with family life, work and activities related to my other blog.

But here is a neat link to a short that explains all you need to know about Barack Hussein Obama. There's a few neat references to Roman Catholicism.

Reason #456,378 Why to Avoid Public Schools

From the Shelbyville Times Gazette:

Global warming advocates target children

One thing this writer finds disturbing about the "global warming" topic
is the effect the constant hysterical propaganda is having on children
who are exposed to it.

Several weeks ago, I related memories of how we kids in the 1970's were told of all sorts of dire futures that awaited us unless we "did something" about the problems of global freezing, The Population Bomb, pollution, oil shortages and the potential death of every lifeform in the sea.

We passed the projected dates of doom with none of these horrors coming true, but now a new generation of kids are having their brains filled with the same kind of scare mongering that was inflicted on us. The tone these days is much more panic-stricken.

And it's creating all sorts of ill effects with the kids. According to a study by British supermarket chain Somerfield, half of young children in that country are anxious about the effects of global warming, "often losing sleep because of their concern."

Well, when schools and the media are constantly pumping this new eco-religion into their skulls, what did you expect? more
During my day it was worry over nuclear war but the teachers did not exactly pound it into us. I thought for sure that we were gonners but that was just me. I kinda like the think globally, act locally mentality as there is something soothing in taking action in your local sphere of influence.
There are reports that children are under stress as some perceive that their parents are not undertaking the supposedly preventative measures in comparison to the school. Soon the communists will want the children to report on their parents.

The way to fix this, of course, is to tell the children that they can have no computers, no television and no battery or electric powered toys. That ought to bring them around.

What is getting bandied about nowadays is a new religion pushed by far left wackos. Children need to be trained to turn the tables on the teachers and demand to know why the schools are shut down for a week in February and a week in April when everybody knows it is a big waste of energy. Children need to be trained to turn around and ask the teachers how they arived at school that morning, did they bicycle?

Cardinal Pell of Australia on this new cult:
“What we were seeing from the doomsdayers was an induced dose of mild hysteria, semi-religious if you like, but dangerously close to superstition,” he said. “I would be surprised if industrial pollution, and carbon emissions, had no ill effect at all. But enough is enough.”
Unfortunatley the climate issue is skewed by international communists like Al Gore who is on the payroll of red China. Al flies there frequently but will not exactly reveal why. My theory is that the communists know that there system is prone to failure and the only way to weaken the west to attack it industrially while China spews unremitting pollution.

There may be something to global warming but one needs cautious about the hype.

Their Business is Killing and Business is Good

Teen abortion rates jump in Hangzhou

HANGZHOU, CHINA: Abortion rates among teens in the Zhejiang Province capital have risen this month as young students rush to a free local clinic to terminate their pregnancies while on vacation from schools and colleges.

Busy doctors from the Hangzhou Youth Reproduction Health Service Center said they were struggling to keep up with the demand.

"Before, we only had two or three abortion operations a day," Zheng Weili, director of the center which provides free consultations and abortions for students, said.

"But since the winter vacation started last week, we should be doing about 10 abortions every day, and most of them are 16 to 21 year old students."

Zheng, who is in charge of a hotline about reproduction health, said callers found out about the free service, mainly from their classmates or through websites.

"I think most pregnant students don't want their schools and classmates to know," Zheng said.

.......

Doctors have warned that too many abortions make the uterine wall thinner or even perforate, and could lead to sterility.

I wondered at the motivation of www.chinadaily.com at posting this story. Was it to trumpet the success of their one child policy? No, too much coverage of school age girls. Is there the glimmer of moral reprehension at the thought of school girls filing into these clinics to get "fixed up?" Unlikely in either a communist or a Buddhist society. Perhaps someone at the Ministry of Communist Finance was complaining to the Ministry of Communist Health that their bills to the government were rising too fast. Maybe.

The key, I think, is the last sentence. Too many abortions will lead to sterility. Russia sees this now. Russia never had a population explosion due to their liquidation of rural people during the communist days but certainly today they have negative population growth due to the wide spread use of abortion and the resultant sterility.

But what is the root cause of this uptick in abortions? I think one commenter hits the nail on the head:
I thing the great sceneray (sic) of Hangshou is the root cause of these problem. We must fix this root cause, and make them into re-education opportunities for these sex crazed youth. A large concentration camp for youths to educate and train is in order. We must make them understand through hard labour and physical exercise, so that they don't have any more energy to do what they don't suppose to do.

What I'm Reading

The Rise and Fall of the Communist Revolution, Warren H. Carroll, Christendom Press 1989, 1995.

A few jems from this masterpiece, the only one of dozens of books that I've read on the subject that gives proper treatment on the evils of communism:

On page 155 Carroll cites Pipes, Russia under the Bolshevik Regime p331 who quotes Zlata Zinoviev, wife of the president of the Comitern in 1921 Russia:
"Is not parental love to a large extent harmful to the child?... The family is individualistic and egotistic and the child raised by it is, for the most part, anti-social, filled with egotistic strivings...Raising is not the private task of parents, but the task of society.
and he cites Pipes' own words
Basest and most criminal of all is the moral slavery introduced by the Communists: they have laid their hands on the inner world of the working people, compelling them think only as they do.
These quotes give a hint as to the type of thinking prevalent now (expressed with more subtlety) in the Communistwealth of Massachusetts in 2007.

Carroll documents many things well: the routine use of terror and murder by all communists, the fellow travellers and sympathizers who apologized for them in the the western media, academia and certain governments, the genocides committed by Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot, the incompetance of western leaders and the grinding consistent evil perpetuated by communist adherents.

As an example, Carroll recounts the stories of families deported from the Ukraine in the 1920s who were loaded onto freight cars for weeks on long treks out to the vast wilderness of Siberia. In most cases, babies died on the way and would have to be thrown from the moving train. I attempted to convey the sense of horror and injustice of the collectivization of the "kulaks" to a friend and he too acknowledged this historical event with the wistful observation, "Well, they (the communists) had to get people to work in the right place." Indeed.

This book for me is almost like a deprogramming session. I had been involved in years of study of the Soviet Union starting in high school in 1986. The course work was lead by a teacher who, at best, could be described as naive, and at worst as an apologist for Communist atrocities. I sopped up the apologetics hook line and sinker. In 1986, the experts knew something was happening in the Soviet Union, and academics, journalists and fellow commies were watching the events with a bit of worry that I never understood, until now. Their lack of elation said it all.

You Choose, You Lose

Long the fantasy of misanthropic environmentalists, the spectre of the declining birthrate is a reality in Europa. Progressive toadies should celebrate not, however, there always people more than willing to take the place of those reluctant to parent. The catch is this: your replacements will not come from your culture, nor will they necessarily revivify the ocean in which you swim. If you're lucky Christians will pick up the slack, otherwise, your replacements may represent a kind of toxic spill and you'll be going belly up sooner than expected.

When progressives decry overpopulation, it's always the hidden premise that they personally expect to live long.

From the Washington Times:

Muslim birthrate worries Russia

MOSCOW -- Low domestic birthrates and rising immigration from the former Soviet republics are producing explosive growth in Russia's Muslim community, which is on a track to account for more than half the population by midcentury.

"Russia is going through a religious transformation that will be of even greater consequence for the international community than the collapse of the Soviet Union," said Paul Goble, a specialist on Islam in Russia and research associate at the University of Tartu in Estonia.

Two decades ago, the Sobornaya Mosque was the only Islamic house of worship allowed in the Soviet Union. It stood largely empty, filling only with the occasional large foreign delegation from an Islamic country.

Today, it is one of four mosques in Moscow serving a Muslim population of about 2.5 million. On Fridays and holy days, it overflows with worshippers, leaving many to kneel on newspapers outside, their foreheads pressed against the concrete.

As in many countries with growing Islamic populations, tensions are also on the rise. Many ethnic Russians fear their country is losing its traditional identity, while many Muslims are offended by widespread discrimination and a lack of respect for their faith.

He's Back and He's a Roman Catholic

Hat tip to Geralad Augustinus over at Cafeteria is Closed for this one.

Daniel Ortega, former Sandinista commandante, Cold War warrior from the losing side, darling of the New York Times and fashion model for designer eyewear from the 1980s was elected President of Nicaragua.

DANIEL ORTEGA of the Frente Sandinista de LiberaciĆ³n Nacional (FSLN) was elected President of Nicaragua this week, after 16 years in opposition. With more than 90 per cent of the votes counted by the night of 7 November, his main opponent, conservative businessman Eduardo Montealegre, conceded defeat by the former left-wing revolutionary, who has become a fervent Catholic.

Ortega, 61, who was at daggers drawn with the Church hierarchy when he was president in the 1980s - he accused them of being hand-in-glove with the CIA - will now be called upon to demonstrate that he really has undergone a Damascene conversion from fiery radical to purveyor of peace, love and reconciliation between erstwhile enemies. He will be well aware that, with just 38 per cent of the votes, far more people voted against him than for him, and he spoke this week of promoting a "new political culture" of constructive cooperation between people of differing views.

Ortega has long won over Cardinal Miguel Obando y Bravo, the elder statesman of the Nicaraguan Church, who hailed Ortega as the only politician who could heal the wounds of the past and reunite the country. The cardinal performed a marriage ceremony for him and his long-term partner, Rosario Murillo, in Managua Cathedral last year.

Daniel can engineer some social justice working to impose the social reign of Christ the King. The Church has always had a "preferential treatment for the poor" clause to her social teaching. You see, Daniel, if you want to help the poor, then Christ is there. He's so much more efficatious then syphillitic 19th Century athiests from Germany.

The piece de resistance is something that I have to admit passed right through my radar screen and something which deserves a posting in its own right: Nicaragua has criminalised all abortions.

After 20 odd years of its daliance with athiestic socialism and then 20 more of corporate capitalism with the usual U.N. social engineering I suspect it was beginning to dawn on the Nicaraguans: Our economy is still in a shambles, our populace has either fled to the United States or has been mudered in the womb.

Three things to note:

#1 The deceit of the Tablet Journalist who improperly interprets the ArchBishop of Managua's neutrality in the election as opposition. Tisk, tisk. I suspect all the candidates were Roman Catholics (well, practicing ones.)

#2 Losing the endorsement of former Sandinista, long time communist and purveyor of heretical liberation theology, Fr. Ernesto Cardenal, is hardly a chink in one's Roman Catholic armour.

#3 If Sandinista Daniel Ortega comes back as a Roman Catholic does that mean the surving members of the Clash are going to issue an album of Gregorian Chant?
