NUTCRACKER HOLIDAY DECOR. YEA OR NAY?

My entire life I’ve been on team nay.   This year I changed my mind and purchased three nutcrackers.  I can’t explain it, but I’m happy with my choices.

So how do you feel about nutcrackers?  Yea or Nay?

MY OTHER MANTEL

I went in a completely different direction with the mantel in my family room.  That room is very rustic and has quite a different vibe than the one in the sunroom.  (If you missed the post of my sunroom Chinoiserie mantel, click here to view the post.)  I kept the turned wood trees that I used for the Fall mantel and added greenery and a wreath.

Since the back ground was so dark, I layered a mercury glass mirror behind the wreath.

My new way to avoid making a bow is to gather ribbon of different lengths and let them dangle.

ADDING HOLIDAY SPARKLE TO YOUR HOME DECOR

I believe that you don’t have to remove your home decor to add some holiday sparkle.  In the foyer I already have my Santos head resting on some home decor books and a lacquer tray.  Above the Hollywood Regency dresser is a  large brass wall sconce.  It was so easy to simply add faux greenery, some pearl and rhinestone ornaments and a a large rhinestone garland.  I draped more of the faux Norfolk Pine greenery on the stairwell.  The large gold ornaments have become a holiday staple.  I added ribbon and repeated the pearl ornaments.  I did add a striped tree and a hobnail candle.

CHINOISERIE MANTEL

It’s another year that I decided to not have a tree for Christmas.  Instead, I’m enjoying adding a garland to the stairway and holiday decor to the mantel.  I never understood why my Mom didn’t want to have a tree for Christmas.  Now that I’m her age, I really get it.

There’s a mantel in my sunroom.  A few months ago I found some seagrass trees.  I thought they’d be perfect in a room that already has seagrass furniture.  The faux bamboo Chinoiserie mirror that’s always on the mantel set the tone for me.  The pagodas and the ginger jars are meant to be table place card holders.  I added a ribbon and pretended they were ornaments.  Another change in my “mature” holiday decor is the use of faux greenery.  The Norfolk Pine garland is from Kirklands and the cedar wreath is from TJMaxx.   I really had fun with the mantel.

Have you changed the way you decorate for the holidays?

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR: MY DINING ROOM

Getting the dining room on board  for the holiday was easy.  I just added some magnolia to the pendant lights and magnolia and cedar to the mirror and framed art.

It was so easy to put sprigs of cedar and magnolia on the sunburst mirror.
I added some magnolia above the French print too.

It's very festive when the lights are on.  I'm hosting for Christmas.  I can't wait.

MY HOLIDAY TREES

I've been thinking about my holiday decor.  I decided to reminisce a bit by viewing all my holiday trees on my blog posts from 2012 to the present.  Each year I seem to do something different.

I just had to share.  If you'd like to see the full post for any of the images, click on the image or the caption to be directed there.

2020  MY CHINOISERIE TREE

In 2019 I decorated a stair garland instead of a tree.

This 2018 tree is my favorite.

In 2015 I used my disco balls and silver spheres as a tree skirt.  I never put them away after the holiday.  They've been rolling around the house since then.

You know that I don't like red.  This is the only time I had a red tree.  I think it was because I loved these plaid suitcases and just had to do it.

In 2013 some peacock feathers were my inspiration.

It was all about leopard prints and coppery ornaments in 2012.

I'm not sure what I'll do this year.  I just wanted to mention again that if you're interested in seeing the full post , click on the image or caption and you'll be directed there.

FAKING FAUX

If you've been following along you know that I can't bring myself to use faux holiday decor.  So, I was in a real predicament when I decided I didn't want to have a live Christmas tree this year.  I went back and forth about buying/not buying a faux tree.  I couldn't do it.

My new mantra is:   "all you need is a garland".  That's the route I took.
No tree for us this year. I was just going to create a garland that made the tree unnecessary.

My intention was to create a garland from greenery from our yard.  I revised it a bit and decided that I would use a faux garland as the base and would add garden clippings.  I know I'm cheating.

Here's what the faux garland looked like. It was from Frontgate so it was substantial.  Here it is on the railing before I got started on it.

FAUX GARLAND

I know you're thinking that it doesn't look bad.
It doesn't, but I really wanted to add some live greenery.

I decided to create the natural garland with magnolia and cedar.
I gathered the clippings and got started.  Here's the result.

If you ever try to do this, I would recommend using a faux garland as a base.  It was easy to add the greenery by just twisting the faux wire stems around the magnolia and cedar.

Did you notice that I swapped out my Santos for the Angel Santos?  I also added ribbon, a garland and some ornaments.  I treated the garland like a Christmas tree I guess.

 Now my favorite part--the close-ups.

I added some greenery, ribbon, and a rhinestone garland to the wall sconce too.

Would you use a garland instead of a tree?
