FALL MANTEL IN EARTHTONES

I just transitioned my family room mantel for this cooler Fall weather.  The trees are really Christmas decor but their muted colors are perfect for Fall too.

The back drop and the brown/beige color was inspired by this oversized art.  It's a print of book spines onto fabric.  The fabric is stretched over a frame just like a canvas.

My recent vintage find is this Italian water jug.

One of my favorite MCM pieces is this brass cube.

I probably won't change much for the holidays.  I'll just remove the pumpkin, add some greenery and ribbons, and maybe a few ornaments  I think I'll layer a wreath over the fabric art.

ANTLERS

Do you add antlers to your decor?  I do.  Enjoy some of mine.

Shed antlers in a container in my family room.

I always use them on stacks of books.  I've included Bella.

ANTLERS ON PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKS AND OF COURSE MY FAVORITE LAB, BELLA

I turned an old framed oil over and added some antlers.  Rustic + nature.

I'm not sure where this is going yet so it's currently resting on my zebra rug while I decide.

My neighbor's tree sheds these wonderful curly seed pods.  I combined them with some antlers in an urn.  They were my Fall decor on my porch a few years ago.

You know I love orange.  I combined the antlers with some Hermes boxes and finials.  (The finials are Christmas ornaments that I refuse to pack away after the holidays.)

MY RESCUED MUM AND FERN

Mums are always a part of my Fall decor.  They're such a fast and easy Fall decor fix.  In the past I've tried to save them for the next year, but it never worked.  My sister told me that if you cut them back after they bloom, they'll grow back in the Spring and be ready for Fall--that's if the deer don't munch on them.  It worked.  My rescued mum is in a tall planter in front of the garage.  The yellow mum was very easy to save.  I cut it back and left it outside all winter.  It started to grow once the weather warmed and bloomed in time for the Fall.

The fern(s) that I rescued were much more of a project.  I kept them in the basement with a grow light all winter.  They shed leaves and made a mess.  I knew they would be more complicated to save, but they were the ferns that we used at my daughter's outside wedding last year.  I guess you could say that they were sentimental ferns.

They made it through the winter and were perfect in the Spring.  I had them in urns and planters all summer.  I'm not sure I'll attempt that this year.  Since frost is in the forecast, I brought one of the ferns inside to the screened porch to protect it.

THE LAST WEEKEND OF FALL

I know Fall isn't over yet.  For me though, this weekend before Thanksgiving is the last weekend of Fall.  I know that many of us have already moved on to the next holiday.  I like to hold on to all that Fall represents just a little longer.   I'm sharing some Fall vignettes from the store, then I guess I will move on with everyone else to Christmas.  Goodbye warm colors and earth tones.

Wishing all my readers a wonderful family-filled Thanksgiving.

Do you think that Fall is too short and Christmas comes too soon?

WELCOMING FALL @ BUCKEYSTOWN DESIGN CO-OP

I'm welcoming Fall with its warm earth tones and cool temperatures.

Fall has to be my favorite season.
I was so excited to style my space with ambers, golds and oranges.

Bird Decor

For someone who claims to not care for birds, I spy quite a few in my home.  If you've been following my blog you've already seen the mercury glass bird in a cloche on my porch.

Recently I purchased collage art with an ostrich.
I have the art leaning against the wall while I decide if it stays in the foyer or if there's a better spot for me to put yet another nail hole into a wall.

OSTRICH COLLAGE ART

In the dining room I have a vintage hand-colored bird engraving layered over the window.

In the upstairs hallway is a vintage Audubon print.

VINTAGE AUDUBON

There are a pair of bookcases in my family room.   I call them my nature-inspired shelves.  You'll see framed vintage bird engravings, eggs, nests, and even some transferware plates with birds in flight.

Many years ago I purchased a calendar with Audubon prints.  I had my two favorite ones matted and framed.  They've been all around the house.  This week they're in the kitchen.

There's even a bird in the oversized art on the stair landing.

Last but not least, since it is Fall and I haven't done any Fall decorating, I thought I'd share a mantel I pulled together years ago when I was ambitious and changed my mantel seasonally.  You can see a brass pheasant peeking out on the right.
