WOODEN BEAD DECOR

It's been over two years since I closed my vintage/home design store and I still miss the creative outlet it gave me.  I sometimes go to the Pinterest board I created for the store and think about all the fun I had creating new spaces there.  As I was scrolling through the Pinterest images,  I realized how much I loved to decorate with wooden beads.  Garlands of wood beads tumbled in and out of the decor.  Most of my chandelier choices had wooden beads too.  I'm sharing some of the store displays in case you might want to add some wooden beads to your home too.

I love this white beaded pendant chandelier.  My daughter and I both have it in our homes.  Her chandy is above her table.  Mine is in a bedroom.

This brown beaded chandelier has a French vibe.  Notice the metal fleur-de-lis.  If you look in the background you can see the white chandelier again in a different store display.

Many times I simply turn a chandelier on its side and place it on a table.  It's much easier than hanging it in the store.  This one has gray beads.

In this next image you can see the bottom of a black beaded chandelier.  A turquoise bead garland drapes itself around the decor.

This image was  from our European container sale.  Beads dangle over the edge of a vintage yellow ware bowl.

I always drape bead garlands over books.  Candlesticks can be bookends.  A crown can take the place of a candle.

Bead garlands add some color to a bookshelf.

I filled a clear pedestal vase with blue bead garlands and spilled some white garlands out of a dough bowl. They're reaching for the floor.  Empty frames also like to be adorned with beads.

These red beads decided to drape themselves down a stack of vintage document boxes.

You can also add beads to a large bowl.

I placed a beaded tray upright and added beads.

Or, simply rest a garland on a table.

Do you add wooden beads to your decor?

If not, what do you add as a decor accent?

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR: THE FOYER

The holiday home tour continues in my foyer.  There's a link to the previous tour of my kitchen at the end of this post if you missed it.

No tree in the foyer this year.  I decided to go with a garland and these fabulous over-sized gold orbs.  The garland is faux Norfolk pine.  They're suspended  with velvet and rhinestone ribbon.  I tucked some real Magnolia clippings here and there.

I added some magnolia clippings to my framed Versace print.

I swapped one of my Santos for the angel Santos.

The faux garland is very realistic.  Love how it puddled to the floor.

I guess you've noticed that I like photos at angles.  The next photos were taken from the top of the stairs.

STYLING A SPACE WITH RECYCLED BOOKS

Books are my most used design element when styling a space.  The bigger the better.  I always purchase large ledgers when I find them.  The size and the ornate covers make them perfect bases.  They're always filled with wonderful handwriting too.  For me, the script inside is an art form.

The cover was missing on this vintage leather book.
I displayed the handwriting on the inside page as if it were art.

VINTAGE BOOK WITH BEAUTIFUL SCRIPT

A few years ago I created some books by adding images to their spines.  I covered them with craft paper, then decoupaged images onto them.  To see the post with the tutorial, go here.

BOOKS WITH ARCHITECTURAL PRINTS

I can't tell you how excited I was when I found some recycled books with "designer" titles, some  with quotes, and others with design images.  The artist purchased close-out books from a publisher and recycled them by adding new covers.  I bought some to sell at the store

"DESIGNER BOOKS" @BUCKEYSTOWN DESIGN CO-OP

I always buy what I like for the store because one of my perks is that I get to keep some for myself. One of my keepers was a stack of books with the image of a Chanel purse.  I placed it onto a bookshelf in my family room.  I draped an old chain link belt over it because it reminded me of the the actual purse's shoulder strap.

I chose another stack of books for myself with a quote by Coco Chanel.

The same artist recently came out with recycled books with city coordinates.
Here they are at the store.

Of course I included some quotes and some "designer" books in the display.

STYLING YOUR SPACE WITH CONTAINERS

We all have special treasures we want to display.   Containers are an easy way to style your finds.  For me, one of the best ways to do this is to gather them together inside cloches, stack them into glass containers, or even place them inside lanterns.

Clear glass containers work well.   In my living room I stacked some mottled ceramic spheres into a large clear jar.  I rested the jar on a mirrored pedestal.

This next container is tall and narrow.  Small turtle shells climb over each other to reach the top.  I put some sea glass into the bottom of the jar.

SMALL SHELLS DISPLAYED IN A NARROW JAR IN MY HOME

One of my partners, Monica, @Gatehouse Designs, just dropped some leather-bound books into an over-sized jar.

She used the same idea with some freeze-dried artichokes.

I simply tumbled my collection of shed antlers into a container and let them fall into place.

I did the same thing with this driftwood garland.  It filled and overflowed the fluted jar.

Cloches work just as well as jars.  When they're on a pedestal, I like them even better.
I rolled up some large architectural book plates and placed them inside a very large cloche on a pedestal.

ARCHITECTURAL PRINTS INSIDE A CLOCHE AT THE STORE

In a matching cloche, I simply added a small bust on top of a stack of vintage books.

BOOKS AND A BUST INSIDE THE CLOCHE

This cloche is on my screened porch.  I filled it with shells, coral, and a mercury glass bird.

CLOCHE ON MY SCREENED PORCH

This "cloche" is actually the top half of a demijohn.  There's a picture frame inside and some jewelry draped around the neck of the bottle.

DEMIJOHN WITH A FRAME INSIDE

My collection of artists' brushes is inside this cloche.  The backdrop is a vintage framed ceiling tile.  HINT:  To get all the brushes in place, I turned the cloche upside down, added the brushes, then the base, and flipped it right-side-up while supporting the base from underneath.

MY COLLECTION OF ARTISTS' BRUSHES

And yes, I didn't put a candle into my lantern.  Instead, I added some books, a cast iron bird, and a piece of fan coral.
