The whole child movement is based on the belief that government, through its schools and minions, should raise every child. The Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) -- a minion -- is one of the most influential partners in the whole child movement. Its Educational Leadership is a widely read magazine that drives the agenda in many public schools -- Olentangy included.

Twenty-two Organizations Partner with ASCD to Help Educate the Whole Child
Leading education, health, arts, and civic organizations lend expertise
Alexandria, VA (12/06/07)—Twenty-two national organizations have joined with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) as partners in ASCD's whole child initiative. The partners, who represent leading education, health, arts, and civic organizations, have committed to promoting the whole child cause by sharing information with their members and providing resources and expertise to ASCD, its network of advocates, and the general public.
ASCD launched the whole child initiative last year to engage the public and advocate for a whole child approach to education wherein educators, schools, parents, policymakers, and communities work together to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged in learning, supported by caring adults, and challenged by a well-balanced curriculum.
"ASCD's partner organizations address the needs of the whole child from a number of angles. Each is helping young people grow into well-rounded and successful adults—prepared for college, work, and life in the 21st century—from its own unique perspective," said ASCD Executive Director Gene Carter. "ASCD has brought all of those perspectives together into one initiative, which is at the heart of educating the whole child. It will take all of us working together to make this vision a reality, which is why we are excited to work with true leaders in their respective fields."
To date, the following partners have joined the initiative:Several partners already have made resources available on the initiative's Web site, www.wholechildeducation.org, which also allows visitors to take the whole child pledge, grade their schools and communities, and share their own stories about what's working and what's not.
