Fresh coat of paint

/

Family’s coming to our house for Thanksgiving. D is painting the doors. I touched up the paint on the gate. It was worn away by last year’s Christmas decorations rubbing against it in the wind. How pathetic is that?

We did a lot of things today, including shopping for the mainstays of the Thanksgiving feast, but so far this made me feel the most accomplished.

Now to write…

Fruits of Our Labors

/
We probably have more kindling than anyone with gas heating needs, but I just can’t bring myself to throw it all away. We filled three big garbage cans with the leaves and smaller twigs. I always love it when we have a fire in the fire place on a cold February Sunday morning and I can think that it’s due in part to the work we did in the fall.

The kindling will go into the shed to dry and the rest of the wood will go under the bench on the front porch (after Halloween—the bench has to be moved so kids can easily get through) to dry out.

Up on the Roof

/
My husband and I needed to trim the tree that was hovering over one end of our house. It was banging on the little metal things that stick up, up there, during our last windstorm. Since wind is a big part of our lives, we thought we’d better get at this.

We bought a new extension ladder and I actually got onto the roof. It was just too much for me to move from the step ladder to the roof before. It was a great day for it. Not too hot or cool. The pitch of the roof is not steep, so once there it’s not too challenging.

Of course, I had my husband bring up the camera when he went down to get the saw attachment for the extension pruner. The view was kind of amazing from up there!

Another day, another door 9/25/2005

/
Okay. So. “It’ll only take us two hours,” my husband said, with fabulous optimism, when we were talking about whether it was too late to start installing the new storm door on the back door of our house. We got started at 1:15 in the afternoon. We didn’t get back into the house until 7:15. We had to put new moulding around the door, etc. Just reading the directions probably took us two hours.

This photo was taken around 3:00 pm, nearly an hour past the two-hour ETA. It’s a good thing we love each other so much.

New Front Door 9/21/2005

/
We just had a new front door installed. We’re really pleased with it. It was one of my 43Things goals and I did it!

Love the way the light comes through and a bit of the color of the hillside outside shows through.
