Frankfort Cemetery: Daniel Boone

Grave of Daniel Boone, Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort, Franklin County

Boone's wife, Rebecca, is also buried here.

I love the bark on this beautiful tree that shelters Boone's grave.

Very close to Daniel Boone's grave is the grave of Elison Williamson,
Boone's longtime friend.

Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Frankfort, Franklin County

1103 Kentuckians fought and died during the Vietnam War, and all are honored at this memorial designed
by Helm Roberts.  Roberts was a Lexington architect and a veteran himself.

The memorial is a giant sundial which contains all 1103 names of the Kentuckians
who died in Vietnam.  Each name is located so that the shadow of the sundial pointer
touches each veteran's name on the anniversary of his death.

The memorial is located on a hill above the Kentucky River and overlooks the State Capitol building
 and the city of Frankfort.
