Advent(Dec. 9): Surprise Gifts

Image
Now Israel  loved Joseph more than any of his other sons,  because he had been born to him in his old age;  and he made an ornate   robe  for him.   When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him  and could not speak a kind word to him. When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge  against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?”   So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions  before he died:   ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins  and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’  Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father. ” When their message came to him, Joseph wept. But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?   You intended to harm me,  but God intended ...

Advent(Dec. 8): Climbing Up

Image
He(Jacob) had a dream  in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.  There above it stood the Lord,  and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.  I will give you and your descendants the land  on which you are lying.   Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you  will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.  All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.   I am with you  and will watch over you  wherever you go,  and I will bring you back to this land.  I will not leave you  until I have done what I have promised you. ” When Jacob awoke from his sleep,  he thought, “Surely the  Lord  is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” Genesis 28:12-16 "Jacob dreamed - of a long, long ladder th...

Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah  as he had said, and the  Lord  did for Sarah what he had promised.   Sarah became pregnant and bore a son  to Abraham in his old age,  at the very time God had promised him.   Abraham gave the name Isaac   to the son Sarah bore him.   When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him,  as God commanded him.   Abraham was a hundred years old  when his son Isaac was born to him. Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter,  and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”   And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”  Genesis 21:1-7 While Abraham laughed in shock, Sarah laughed in unbelief when they were told they would have a son. "When Abrahan was one hundred years  old, Sarah had a baby boy, Isaac. Sarah held Isaac and her laughter was changed to joy to ...
