You Don't Get To Taste The Honey Without The Sting Of The Bee
Despite this guy sounding a bit like the male version of Duffy, I loooooove this song.
It's "Nothing Ever Hurt Like You" by James Morrison. That's a damn sexy voice.
Hippo butt, that's what.

Not only did I willingly go into Starbucks (to buy a gift for the "Secret Santa" exchange at work tomorrow, no less) but I bought a CD. *hangs head in shame*
And it was a Christmas CD! *blushes in mortification*
And I'm listening to it RIGHT NOW. *dies of embarassment*

I am so in love with these two.
This is the completely awesome Chromeo doing Fancy Footwork.
Something about this song takes me back to the early '90s when Bob and I used to stay up late to listen to Nocturne on WSND 88.9. Ah, those were the good old days! I still have the incredible mix tapes she made for us from those shows.
This is The Helio Sequence doing Keep Your Eyes Ahead.

I know that right now most French consider her nothing more than the reviled wife of their much-loathed President Nicolas Sarkozy, but I find her music absolutely lovely.
This is Carla Bruni singing Quelqu'un m'a dit.

I remember the summer night I first heard this song. I was seventeen and hopelessly in love with my very first real boyfriend and every word reminded me of him. I even sang this to him over the phone.
He's still my favorite person in the entire world and the one I think of when I hear songs like All I Want Is You by Barry Polisar (which is actually his ringtone on my phone).
Anyhow, I was thinking about the Lemonheads yesterday and remembered this song, one I hadn't thought about in ages. I wanted to post it because after all these years, he still makes me so incredibly happy. I love you, Ken.
The song is Being Around by the Lemonheads.
I'm in love. She's like Bjork blended with Mirah and Kylie Minogue. Sounds weird, but it so works.
This is Lykke Li singing Little Bit.

I realize this song is just a blatant rip-off of AC/DC (though the vocals are nowhere near as killer as Angus Young's) but that's kind of why I love it.
This is Jet doing Cold Hard Bitch.

I've had Santogold bookmarked for months but haven't posted anything of hers up before now because I am lazy and stupid. Now she's everywhere and everybody else is in love with her too. Anyhow, I crazy dig her voice and music.
The song is L.E.S Artistes and the artist is Santogold.

This is just a nice cover of a great Leonard Cohen song, Everybody Knows, as sung by Ryan Adams.

I effing love the Raconteurs. I am ashamed to admit that I only ever buy CDs at Target (I know, I should really branch out...especially because we have some incredible music stores in LA) so if it's not in stock there, I probably haven't bought it. I have made an effort to check for it every time I go shopping, but I may just need to make a special trip to Amoeba or something to buy Consolers of the Lonely, because it KICKS ASS.
The song is Old Enough and the band, obviously, is the Raconteurs. I so dig the Jethro Tull, '70s rock quality on this tune.

This song has such a catchy, retro quality to it; it's actually a pretty depressing video, but I like it anyways.
The song is Silver Lining by Rilo Kiley.

This is such an amazing duet; I love both of their voices. I heard this song on the radio yesterday and knew right away I'd be posting it for NaBloPoMo.
The artists are Alison Krauss and Robert Plant; the song is Please Read The Letter. I chose the live version because the official video drops the second verse, which is really beautiful.
I just this minute heard this song while watching Nocturnal State on VH1...totally enchanting. I love the video, too, even though the end is a little weird.
The artist is Olivia Broadfield and the song is Silence.

Wow, this was nice news to read first thing this morning.
Springsteen Endorses Obama
Bruce Springsteen, the rocker who made "Born in the USA" a signature of working-class pride, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president today.
"He has the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience to be our next president," Springsteen said in a letter posted on his website and distributed by the Obama campaign. "He speaks to the American I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit, a place where 'nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone.'"
This post brought to you by the letter B...for BRUUUUUUUUUCE!
I'm going to see him tomorrow night at the Pond! I can't wait. The show I saw in October was incredible.
I am very fortunate to once again be the date of my fabulous firefighter friend Masa, the biggest Springsteen fan I know. (He's going to see him on Tuesday night, too.) Not sure what I did to deserve this, but I plan on taking him to a very nice dinner before the concert to say thanks.

Okay, I couldn't wait until later to post this one. I'm listening to it right now and this song is SO FUCKING COOL. I just love it. I think if you like the new Radiohead album, this will rock your socks off.
The band is Yeasayer and the song is 2080.

Personal: I'm a political junkie who has worked for an elected official, on a doomed presidential campaign, and for numerous non-profits. I read voraciously, almost anything I can get my hands on, but mostly blogs, food magazines, and fiction (not necessarily in that order.) I like to write but I don't do it often enough. I have a distinctive laugh and a double-jointed thumb. I am addicted to Yelp, Diet Coke, my Blackberry, red wine, and garlic.
