Human Trafficking

I was pleased to see Trump including human trafficking in the list of reasons for having a border. 1/25/17 Chicago Sun-Times:
HOUSTON — President Donald Trump announced his long-awaited plan Wednesday to build a wall on the 1,954-mile U.S. border with Mexico, calling for its “immediate construction” to stop illegal immigration, drug and human trafficking and acts of terrorism.
I have libertarian friends who find it hard to believe there is much demand for underage prostitutes.  1/26/17 Idaho Statesman:
In November 2013, a month after being released from prison, Michael Wayne Wade met a girl.
Wade, 31, had served a five-year sentence in state prison for failing to register as a sex offender. In a phone call recorded by the 15-year-old girl — identified in court documents as “MV” — Wade told her he wanted her to “hustle” — to work as a prostitute with him acting as her “daddy,” or pimp.
Even Obama's DOJ acknowledged the problem of cross border child sex trafficking.

Legalizing Child Prostitution

12/29/16 Washington Examiner:
SB 1322 bars law enforcement from arresting sex workers who are under the age of 18 for soliciting or engaging in prostitution, or loitering with the intent to do so. So teenage girls (and boys) in California will soon be free to have sex in exchange for money without fear of arrest or prosecution.
The theory is that minor prostitutes are victims; pimps are the target.  But how will they find the pimps without arresting the minor prostitutes?  Some years ago, when I lived in the State of Reality Denial, I read a really disturbing article in the San Francisco Chronicle; police had arrested a bunch of underage prostitutes in an Asian massage parlor.  One of the johns they arrested was the city controller.  The 15-year-old prostitute said he liked her to call him "Daddy" when they were having sex.

I expect that minor prostitutes will soon wear T-shirts that say Minor, both to warn off the police, and attract customers that like them young.

Those of you behind the Tofu Curtain, was there any discussion of this law before it passed?  Or was everyone too busy getting their chakras tuned to care?

Mayors For..

You were expecting another Mayor Against Illegal Guns scandal, right?  No. Mayors for Hillary member: Mayor Silverthorne of Fairfax was busted:

Police in late July received a tip that the mayor was possibly providing meth in exchange for sex on a website used to arrange casual sexual encounters between men.
An undercover detective created a profile on the website, and within a few days, Silverthorne made contact, according to police.
The mayor allegedly told the detective he could provide meth "in exchange for sexual encounters," according to police. The detective agreed to meet with Silverthorne, and Silverthorne agreed to bring other men to the engagement, police say.

On Thursday, Silverthorne brought the meth to the Chain Bridge Road hotel, police say. He was arrested and charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just a life style choice I guess

From July 1, 2013 Mail:
Bestiality brothels are spreading through Germany faster than ever thanks to a law that makes animal porn illegal but sex with animals legal, a livestock protection officer has warned.

Madeleine Martin told the Frankfurter Rundschau that current laws were not protecting animals from predatory zoophiles who are increasingly able to turn to bestiality as a 'lifestyle choice'.

She highlighted one case where a farmer in the Gross-Gerau region of southwest Germany, noticed his once friendly flock of sheep were beginning to shy away from human contact....

'There are now animal brothels in Germany,' Martin told the paper, adding that people were playing down the issue by by describing it as a 'lifestyle choice'.

Armed with a host of similar case studies, Ms Martin is now calling for the government to categorically ban bestiality across the country.

Last November German authorities said they were planning to reinstate an old law forbidding sex with animals after a sharp rise in incidents of bestiality along with websites promoting it.

Parliament began debating changes to the national Animal Protection Code with the agricultural committee of the Bundestag pledging fines of up to £20,000 for a first offence.

Bestiality dropped off the statute books as a crime in 1969 but in recent years the number of people believed to be participating in such acts has increased significantly.
Please explain why someone can rationalize why this is  not OK but slaughtering the animal to eat it is OK.

Interesting Article On The Consequences of Legalizing Prostitution in Germany

It's a pretty detailed investigative piece by the Telegraph, one of the Britain's Tory-associated newspapers.  As is usually the case, the wildly enthusiastic expectations of progressives turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, and some of the consequences are nothing to be proud of: increases in human trafficking in countries where prostitution is legal, and higher murder rates of prostitutes in those countries compared to where it is illegal.  Pimping remains a significant problem -- in spite of all those wonderful theories explaining pimps as a consequence of prostitution being illegal.

Why, of course, is an interesting set of questions.  At least part of the increase in human trafficking is pretty simple: when something is legal, it is a lot easier to hide something illegal in the larger stream of legitimate commerce.  Higher murder rates are more curious, but perhaps because there is an increase in prostitutes.  Nonetheless, there is a real sleaziness that comes out of this, and even the big businessman of legal prostitution in Germany reacts with horror when the wrong question is asked:
Would he be happy for either of his two daughters to work at Paradise, the interviewer asks. Rudloff turns puce. “Unthinkable, unthinkable,” he says. “The question alone is brutal. I don’t mean to offend the prostitutes but I try to raise my children so that they have professional opportunities. Most prostitutes don’t have those options. That’s why they’re doing that job."  He pauses and looks away.
“Unimaginable, he repeats. “I don’t even want to think about it.”
Places where prostitution is legal and it has not become a social problem tend to be highly regulated situations, like some counties in Nevada, and even those have not been without some political corruption problems.  An ounce of experience is worth a pound of theory.

For some reason blogger is not allowing this quote from a newspaper article for violating illegal activities content.
