For you, with love

Hello Copic fans,

today it's my turn again to show you a card and it is also the last card I've made for this blog.
The time being a member of the DT I've done it with pleasure and it gave my lots of fun making the cards for this blog. However, I decided to stop to gave other persons a change to join this DT
And as far as I know there is even a waiting list for this DT.
For the people who are interested in my work, I will remain a member of the Copic Marker Benelux team, so if you want it, you can follow me on that blog.

Now something about the card. The design paper is from "Graphic 45" from the series "Botanical Tea".
I love this paper line.

On the card for today I used a "Wee stamp" because these stamps are always so cute

All three flowers are made by myself with a stamp from "IndigoBlu" called "poinsettia". This time I stamped it on "vellum" paper with "VersaMark" ink.

Then I sprinkled the stamp with embossing powder and directly heated the powder with my heat tool to fix it.
After that I cut out the flower and then it is ready to put it on the card.
The dies "for you" and "with love" are from "Tattered Lace".

These flowers are made in four layers. After punching out the flowers I coloured them with ink and put the layers together.
I used two kind of different leaves and these are both also from "Tattered Lace" named "Ornate Leaves" and these are also so beautiful.

The colours used are:
Hair: E37 - YR24 - YR26 - Y15 - E30
Skin: R22 - R20 - E11 - E00 - E000
Blue: B37 - B45 - B32 - B21
Pink: RV95 - R83 - R81 - RV10
Wings: Y000 - YG0000 - B000 - B0000 - RV000 - RV0000
Background: B01 - B00 - B000 - B0000

I hope I inspired you with my last card for this blog and hope to see you again in blog land or at my own blog.

A Bathtub

Hello Copic fans,

Today it's time for a tutorial again. This time I decorated a bathtub.

A few months ago I bought this little bathtub somewhere, but at that time I didn't know what to do with it.

Recently I got an idea and decided to make a tutorial of it.
At first I painted the whole tub with white gesso.

After drying I airbrushed the tub, but the edges and legs, with colour number R8g of Copic and I did it with purpose in different shades.

After that I used different colors and templates of Dutch Doobadoo to create various prints on the outside of the bathtub.

I used different parts of various templates because it isn't possible to use one template correct, because the bathtub is all around.

After that I used flakes from Indigo Blu to colour the edges and legs. To glue the flakes I used Flitter glu.

In my view the legs of a bath should be cold-coloured (that's my idea of an old- fashioned bathtub), but I didn't found that a nice combination so I used silver flakes.

Than I took a tissue, glued it a little tight on a sheet of paper, which I stamped twice with a stamp and coloured it with Copics.

The flowers and leaves  are also coloured with Copics and a few branches and butterflies I made darker.

After that I removed the tissue from  the paper; teared carefully the prints from the paper so the bottom layer of the tissue is left. The print is glued on both sides of the tub. Normally you have to stamp the second print mirrored, but because the tissue is very thin, it can by turned over without problems because the ink comes through at the backside.

Brushed the bathtub with a little decoupage glue (I used “Slap It On” of Indigo Blu), put the print on it and brushed it again with another layer decoupage glue.

I finished with a layer of varnish on the total bathtub.
And this is the result. Now I can use it as a present filled with all kind of stuff for the bath, a little plant or another present.

A last a picture to show the details; the paper is not visible anymore and the colours of the bottom layer come through a little.

The colours I used:
Bathtub: R 85
Big flowers: BV08 – BV04 – BV02
Little flowers: E19 – YR07 – Y17 – Y04
Leave: YG97 – YG95 – YG17 – YF23

I hope I inspired you again and lead on to new ideas how to work with all kind of materials.

How to color synthetic materials with Copics.

Hallo Copic fans,

Today it is Sunday again and time for another tutorial.
First I want to tell you how I got the idea to do this.
When you are enthousiast you can say things of which you are not happy about afterwards. Also this time.
We were on vacation and Rob’s daughter Vanessa was also with us. Because she has MS (multiple sclerosis) she sits in a wheelchair.
Her chair had black spoke protectors. One day when we sat outside she told us that she loves to have spoke protectors with butterflies and beautiful colors. As you can expect thinking of a new Copic project I got enthousiast and told her that it would not be a problem to realize such a thing. “I’ll do that just for you!”

First Rob let them spray with white paint so I had a good background to start with. Thereafter I choose some beautiful stamps of flowers and butterflies. Then I made masks. When that was done I could start with stamping. That went very well.

So far so good and the two protectors were ready for coloring. I didn’t made the protectors identically.
Now I needed more masks for airbrushing the background in the desired color.

The edges on the outside and inside are first airbrushed with dark blue. There against to follows an edge one shade lighter.

On the above picture spraying with the airbrush is ready and the masks can be taken off.

But problems started when I took my Copics for coloring the stamps. That was not possible. The first layer remained streaky and when I tried to color the second layer, the first one just disappeared.
What I tried, it didn’t work, al lot of efforts without any result.
So I tried to make the floral hearts with dots, that went well and the result was reasonably.

Before it looks like on the above picture it took a lot of time.
To try to color the flowers otherwise I made new masks and started working with the activator in another way. From a sponge I made little pieces. To give more depth I did the desired color and activator on the little sponge and dabbed the color with sponge and my tweezers on the protector.

I did all flowers in this manner. After that I glued little hot fix stones on the floral hearts of the red and purple flowers.

Now a little film follows in which I show how the little butterflies are colored. For this I used three Copic colors, the activator and a water brush. Before starting I poured the activator, which normally is in a sprayer, from the bottle in a small bowl so it is easier to put the sponge into the activator.
Before that I tried all kind of materials for coloring, but the before mentioned combination worked best.

On the above picture the final result on one of the spoke protectors is shown. I must say that it took a lot of research, many try outs and also lots and lots of energy and frustration.
But still I am proud on the result. Especially when on inquiry is said that it is impossible to work with Copics on synthetic materials. But I did it anyway!

Above a close up so you can see the hot fix stones and stickles in the floral hearts.
For the finishing touch we had to cover it with several thin layers of varnish. After a long search and inquiring we used a varnish based on turpentine. Before spraying the varnish I tried out several manners on the back of the protector. For instance, when I rubbed the varnish with a cotton swab the colors started bleeding.

But it is the result that counts and Vanessa is very happy with her colourful spoke protectors. She gets lots of compliments, so that’s good.

In this manner we can color all kind of other materials other than paper. I hope that you got new ideas through this tutorial and if you want to try it I found out how to do it (I invented the wheel for you!).
