handlettering

The past few weeks I was enjoying my holidays and because I didn't have any travelling plans I bought myself a few online classes. One of them was by the wonderful Joanne Sharpe, a superb handlettering artist.
And guess what, Copic Markers are perfect for handlettering.

Before I start I make a sketch of the quote I want to use in my project.

For the next step I use a sheet of stonepaper and a few nice colours of Copic Various Ink. Stone paper is a strong paper and perfect for alcohol inks.

Drip the colours on your paper and add some Activator to blend the colours more easily.

I like to move the paper around a bit to blend the colours. Add some more Various Inks for darker/ brighter colours or add some more Activator to blend the colours or make them lighter. Just play a bit until you are satisfied with the result.

I use a  lightbox to add the sketch (which I have made earlier - step 1) to the stone paper. For tracing the letters I use a Copic Multiliner. While tracing the letters I alter them as well.
In the next few photographs I show you how I colour/ draw all the letters. Use different sizes of Copic Multiliners to get the best results.

In the end I decided to add some white too. You can use a white marker or Copic Opaque White.

And this is the end result.

Have a fabulous weekend,

Miranda

Hooray it's your birthday !

Hello Copic lovers,

Today I will show you a step by step post from my hand lettering design.
As in april I have lot's of birthdays I thought it was nice to make something
with the birthday theme.

1. I always start with a white normal sheet ( photocopying paper ) of paper and a pencil,
then I start drawing a text with different types of letters.
Underneath I always lay a sheet with squares and lines to make sure my text will be straight.

2. When I am pleased with it I start to pass the text with a Copic Multiliner
and for the bigger letters a black sketch ( 100 )

3. Now I scan the design, I print it onto Perfect Colouring Paper in A4 format and
I also print it out smaller ( 4 texts on 1 A4),
if you want you can also lay the print underneath a bleedproof Copic paper
..then you can colour straight with the Copic ( see orange sample below ).

4. With a MFT die I have cut one of the smaller designs,
I lay it on another die cutted sheet of PCP, and start to use my butterfly stamp.

5. Now I start to colour a part of the butterfly with BG0000

6. Later a part of the butterfly with BV0000

7. I add some more colour onto the wings with BG45

8. I add some BG49 which I blend with the BG45

9. On the part which was coloured with the BV0000 I add some BV34

10. Now I blend the BV34 with some BV31

11. Now it is the turn to colour the letters,
the word birthday is passed with some BG45 and BG49
The word in the third YOUR is coloured with BV0000 and BG0000.
Shadows are done with BV31 and BG45.
I also add some turquoise Copic Multiliners stripes onto the word YOUR.

12. I add some dots with a Lavender Copic Multiliner onto the word YOUR.

This is the card version using a printed smaller version of the design.

As I told you earlier you can also put the original design in a plastic sheet
and put a bleedproof Copic Paper on top,
you can see the original design through this thin Copic paper.
In this way you can use your coloured Copic
directly onto the paper without having black lines.

Of course if you practice hand lettering a lot
you can directly write onto the paper
 without having any guidelines underneath.
But as a starter it is safer to do it the way I have showed it.

First I have used a YR12

Shadows are done with a YR18

Doodle accents are drawn with a Copic black Multiliner onto the orange text.

As you can see many possibilities with one text!
The original black version is saved onto my computer
and I am sure I will use it again in the future.

Love Copic handlettering !

Hello Copic lovers,

It's Blankina here with a new hand lettering post for you.
A mix of a hand drawn design and hand lettering with my beloved Copics.

Again lots of photos to get an impression of how my design was made
(sorry not always of a very good quality
..I might need an assistant while drawing... anyone interested??)

I have started to make a sheet with lines using some rulers.
These sheets are also useful when you are trying hand letter types..
like practice sheets. Perhaps I will do a tutorial some time.

Now I have put a normal white sheet of paper above the lined sheet,
through the paper I can see the lines.
I really need this help otherwise my writing will be awfully crooked.

I have written the word " hand lettering "  with a pencil.

Slowly I am adding more things to my design,
I have drawn a copy of a sketch marker ...and a little heart.
After I have continued drawing an SP Multiliner too, some more hearts and
a line with an arrow.

The design in pencil is ready,
now I have copied the drawing with my printer onto
Perfect Colouring Paper.
As the original was in pencil I now have grey outlines.

With a black Sketch marker (100) I have emphasised
the grey lines of the big letters LOVE.
Using the chisel side of the marker,
you need to hold the marker quite straight for the best result.

Also the "frame" lines get emphasized with the chisel side of my black Sketch marker.

Afterwards I started to add some colour to my Sketch marker design,
I have chosen the grey markers from the T family.
I have used T0 on the whole marker , and T1 and T3 for the shadowing.

To colour my SP Multiliner drawing I have used some darker shades of the grey T family.
T2 and T4 and for the letters on the Multiliner I have used  a black Multiliner 0.3

The text on the drawn and later coloured Sketch marker was added with a cool grey SP Multiliner 0.3
The finals of the lids were coloured with T7 and black (100) Sketch marker.

Now it was time to add some colour to the text hand lettering,
of course I could have continued with the black and grey..
but I have so many pretty Copic colours..why not use them?
For these kind of letters I have used the pencil side of the marker.
Using a blue from the B family (B24)

After having used the B24 I have passed some B28 too,
to add some shading...just blending these two colours.

Some details we added using my Multiliners and a white gel pen,
The outlining of the text hand lettering was done with a black Copic Multiliner
with a very small tip (0.05)

This is the end result...Hope you have enjoyed reading and watching :) my post,
perhaps it can inspire you to do some hand lettering with your Copics too!

Copics used:

SP Multiliner black 0.3
Multiliner black 0.05
SP Multiliner cool grey 0.3
SP Multiliner cobalt 0.3

100, T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, B23, B28

Until next time!

Happy Valentine's Day with handlettering and doodles

Hello there, it's Blankina here, are you ready for Valentine's Day?
I have a new hand drawn Copic design for you,
again a mix of hand lettering and doodling, including photo's I have made during the process.
I hope that you might get an idea how you can make your own design too.

First you start with a drawing with a pencil.
If you use words, it is easier to draw them from the middle of the word,
working out to the first and last letters.

Simply count the letters of each word.
In the middle of your design you should make a small vertical line,
now you can start putting the letters around this vertical line ,
half on the left side, half on the right side.

I have written the text in different styles (fonts),
mine are hand written so not perfect but at least they are original hand lettering :)
(but if you wish you can also use computer fonts).

The next step is to "copy" your design with Multiliners, I have used a piece of vellum,
With my black copic multiliner I have done  the outlining of the text and small details.
To copy the big heart I have used a grey Copic Multiliner,
in this way you can choose to use or not use the outlines of the big heart later.

Now I have scanned my design made with Copic Multiliners on vellum into my computer.
After having scanned the black and grey version
I have also saved a "total" black version ( including the big heart with black outlines ) .

The fun thing is that you can now print it out in different sizes without ruining your original design. You can try different ways of colouring .

I have printed out a small version which I have coloured with Copic Multiliners,
this is a copy of the black and grey version so I have used the text only .
(SP Copic Multiliner black 0.1)
(SP Copic Multiliner red  0.3)
Afterwards I have used a heartshaped die cut and used some Copic Sketch. The silver was added with a Molotow liquid Chrome pen.

I have also printed out a bigger version of the "total" black design,
which I have coloured with my Copic Sketch .
The big heart was coloured with the Warm Grey ( W ) family.
I have also used a black (100) Sketch to make the lowest text a bit bigger.

The bigger design is almost finished...
I have used my reds for the small hearts, my warm greys for the big heart,
for the big text happy I have used my black Sketch (100)
and I have added some stripes with a white gel pen to give it a fun accent .
On the text day I have added some "faux stitching" on the letters with a white gel pen.

The outlines of the word Valentine's and the small hearts
are accentuated with a SP Copic Multiliner 0.3.

Voilà the end result, hope you like it !

Big design :

Heart : W 2, W 3, W 5, W 6
Valentine's word and small hearts : R 27, R 29, R 59, SP Multiliner black 0.3

Happy New Copic Year!

Hello all!

Happy New Copic Year!
It is such an honour to start the new year with my first post on the Copic Europe blog,
my name is Blankina and will be posting my doodle orientated designs on a monthly base.

Hope you all had a terrific good start in 2017.

I have prepared a doodle design for you..
Do you like to doodle too? It is a perfect anti-stress,
just get some Copic Multiliners and let your fantasy flow.

To start with I have drawn a design with a pencil ,
all by hand ( using just a ruler and some other help instruments now and then ) .

I have written the text happy new Copic year first,
and later I have added some circles and lines around the text .

As next step I have copied the pencil drawing onto Perfect Colouring Paper ,
after I have started to emphasize the lines with a black Copic Multiliner.

I personally love to use the SP multiliners,
these are the refillable version and come in different line widths,
for this drawing I have used the line width of 0.1 and 0.3.

You can get caried away,  adding bits and pieces , detail after detail.
It is fun to do...it has become a mix of doodeling and handlettering in the end.
Just add some stripes, dots , circles and zig zag movements wherever you like.
Some lines were accentuated with a black sketch  ( 100 ) too .

To give the design a touch of colour I have chosen
some "golden" colours from the Yellow family.
I hope it might inspire you to doodle too!

I have used the following Copic products:

Copic Multiliner SP 0.1
Copic Multiliner SP 0.3
100 , Y 21, Y 23, Y 28

Again the best wishes for a colourfull and healthy 2017,
thanks for visiting!

Hugs Blankina
