Family Tree

For Christmas this year my sister-in-law, Heidi, gave our mother-in-law, a BEAUTIFUL FAMILY TREE! She used this template from Martha Stewart's website...
I decided I wanted to make one for my mom's birthday this year & googled "Family Trees" and found SEVERAL options! I fell in love with this SPLIT FAMILY TREE idea and knew that since my brother Rob is an amazing CUSTOM FRAMER, he would be able to frame it just how I wanted!
I googled "Vinyl Family Trees" and found the following split image. If it hadn't have been split, I could have easily Cropped the image in half if needed. I imported this image into my MAKE THE CUT program & then adjusted it slightly. I made the leaves the size I wanted, added some leaves to give me the amount of generations I wanted & added some falling leaves for their kids.

After I got it just the way I wanted, I printed it out on Chocolate Brown Vinyl. I also added a place for my parent's names at the base of the Trunk & 7 falling leaves to represent their 7 children's names...
Then I printed all of the names I needed & made a PATTERN to trace around the names, to get the SHAPE I wanted!
I used photo adhesive squares to stick my WHITE CARDSTOCK NAMES to the VINYL...
and then I applied the vinyl to WHITE MAT BOARD, that would later be framed...
My brother Rob framed it beautifully in a classic brown frame...
and I LOVE how it turned out. I wanted a MODERN LOOK, but it also serves the purpose to show the genealogy of my family! I think hung side by side, it will look beautiful in my parent's home!

Questions on how I completed this project??

Homemade Gift Idea #10-Stockings

Matt's 2 single sisters had us for Christmas this year & since we did HOMEMADE GIFTS, I was wondering what they would come up with!?!

They MADE us stockings & they are INCREDIBLE!
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE them!
I am amazed at the work that went into them & they honestly could not have given us a more perfect gift! We don't have stockings...except for 2 I bought for our 1st Christmas, but these are SO CUTE & each one is different & personalized with embroidered names.

I am SO impressed with their sewing skills!!!
When we have more kids, I might just have to pay them to make more:)

I LOVE the fabrics they chose...

THANK YOU SO MUCH Aimee & Whitney!!!

They also made me the CUTEST headbands that I need to get some pictures of & post!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Homemade Gift Idea #9-QUILTS

My incredible mother-in-law worked on FIVE...yes FIVE...quilts throughout the year for each of her children for Christmas & they all turned out AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
Can you inherit talent if you are not blood related???
Because I REALLY would love to learn to quilt!

I wanted to cry, such a thoughtful gift!
Here is a pic of us with ours...

Matt's little sister Aimee & Whitney & their quilts...

and I somehow missed getting pics of the other 2 quilts...
probably changing a diaper or something just as flattering:)

But they were all very different & all equally amazing!!

I think a homemade quilt is one of the best gifts you can receive! You KNOW a LOT of thought & time went into it AND it is super useful! That is why I am determined to make one someday!

Homemade Gift Idea #8-CLOCKS

Matt & I drew his younger sisters for Christmas this year & so we decided to make them clocks for their bedrooms...

Aimee's room is hot pink & purple & Whitney's room is yellow, but I wanted to stick with neutral colors, so she can take it with her when she gets hitched:)

Homemade Gift Idea #7-Picture Board

My sis-in-law, Chaya thought up this thoughtful idea for my mother-in-law!
She took a picture of my in-laws for the center & the 3 married couples & then a pic of the 2 single girls(still at home) & then I cut some vinyl for her that said "All Because...2 people fell in love" & their last name & marriage date. I LOVE how it turned out Chaya & want to copy it for my house:)

Homemade Gift Idea #6-HOME BLOCKS

My sis-in-law, Heidi, is super crafty AND has her own vinyl machine, so is always making something CUTE! She made these for my other sis-in-law this year & I LOVE how they look!

CUTE CUTE CUTE

Homemade Gift Idea #5-MARSHMELLOW GUNS

Need a homemade gift idea that isn't quite so "girly"???
How about a Marshmellow gun??
My sis-in-law, Julie made us 2 for Christmas & my father-in-law made us 2 for Christmas, so we now have a FAMILY SET! Wooohooo! Fun times!

What a FUN idea to tie up a gun with a bag of marshmellows:)

Homemade Gift Idea #4-APRONS

My sis-in-law, Chaya, whipped up these DARLING His & Hers Aprons!
I love to sew, but I could never do something like this!
Such a cute idea, especially since they CATER for a living!

Such a THOUGHTFUL gift!!!

Homemade Gift Idea #2- Grandma's Scoreboard

My sis-in-law, Aimee, decided to make her mom a "Scoreboard" for Christmas...so she can keep track of the number of grandkids she has! I thought this was SOOOO CUTE!
She did a great job & matched the colors perfectly to hang in their family room.
I cut the vinyl for her on my cricut & since it was one of my 1st vinyl projects, I was glad it turned out!:)

She put numbers on both sides of each red square & I think cut out about 10 squares total...so after the kiddos start getting in the double digits, we might have to peel the vinyl off & re-do the numbers! haha!

Such a great idea!

Homemade Gift Idea #1-GAME BOX

My in-laws gave us this cute canvas box for Christmas...

filled with FUN family games...
included a homemade "Don't Eat Pete" board game & Shanghai(card game) instructions...

along with a handful of other great games to play as a family...

I LOVED this gift!!!!!!!!!
