Mixed Media Gown

Well I have tried my hand again at a Mixed Media Project for the Mixed Media Color Challenge #9.

I was quite pleased and surprised with how this actually came out.  It will be a gift to my newly engaged daughter!

I found this video on YouTube by Gabrielle Pollacco.  She makes Mixed Media look so easy.  Quite Inspiring to say the least!

Instead of using a canvas I painted some heavy chipboard white as my base, as I knew I wanted to place this creation in a shadow box.  I found some gorgeous paper in my stash, I think it is by K and Company.   And folded it back and forth scoring along the way to make creases for the dress.

The dress is trimmed in a Tim Holtz rosette lacy ribbon.  A Prima Pink rose with added pearl accents.   Lace ribbon topped with a strip of pearls.  A red painted wooden double heart, with an "I Do" rub-on sentiment.

A pink rhinestone flourish embellishment and a decoupaged dictionary page with object d'art with another rub-on of wedding rings.   The waist of the dress is trimmed in ribbon and flowers.

I used several stamps from Gina K Designs;  Butterfly, Springtime Silhouettes,  Pocket Watch, Time  Musical Notes, Vintage Borders.  Another rub-on sentiment:  Whatever Our Souls Are Made Of, His And Mine Are The Same.

Little pink seed beads were glued to a flourish representing movement, at the bodice of the dress, which also has a string of pearls and a feather as accents.  I actually love the look of the feather, it's kind of fun and fabulous!  :)

This was an absolute JOY to create.  I am trying to let go of my fear of Mixed Media.  Lots of helpful YouTube Videos and lots of inspiration over at Mixed Media.  Check them out, you'll be glad you did!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Remember.....be crafty!

Enjoy~~

Another Try At Mixed Media

And I thought Masculine cards were difficult to make!  Geesh, this Mixed Media is a real bugger.  I think I am going to look around for some classes this winter for Mixed Media Projects, it can only help.....right?

This creation is for the Mixed Media Color Challenge #6, to use light pink, bright pink, and gray.

Here is what I came up with......if you squint it may look better.  lol

This is a square card that measures 5" x 5".  The sentiment and anchor stamps are from  Gina K Designs, Enjoy The Sunshine, the anchor was cut using the Classic Circles Nestability.  The Compass Rose is a mask from Tim Holtz, using the direct to paper technique. Added some 'banners' one embellished using the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder, the other a type of tissue paper, both stapled on to the card stock base.  Added some paint in grey and the 2 shades of pink and also white as a neutral.  I paper pierced a design to show movement, perhaps a cool ocean breeze blowing by.  And a ribbon punch threaded with jute twine.  Last but not least, a large white eyelet in the bottom right corner, painted in a pale pink.

I will NOT give up on this technique, but I would like to be able to create something lighter something prettier.......back to the drawing board......and that's okay too!

Enjoy your day, getting close to the long weekend and the Official End Of Summer!  Love it!

Early Release Wednesday

Gosh I used to hate them when my daughter was in school, but am kind of loving it on a glorious day like today.  Issues at my afternoon client, had to reschedule.....bummer.....not!  :)

Today I have 2 Tags to show you.  I made them for the Mixed Media Color Challenge # 5, purple, blue & green.  There are some really beautiful Mixed Media projects on this site.  My entry however, will not be one of the beautiful ones.  I just can't pull off this technique.  It's a tricky one for me.  If any of you have any suggestions or tips on making any kind of Mixed Media project please let me know.  I need all the help I can get.  I will keep trying so this might be the year of  'bear with me' .

Tag #1 (and my official entry)

Used the following supplies:  Paint, Sakura glitter pen, buttons, bottle cap, rhinestones, fibers, Gina K Designs stamps; Pretty Patterns 2 & Springtime Silhouettes, ribbon, butterfly charm, flower punch, clear embossing powder, hole punch.

Ran a piece of crafting metal through an embossing folder to capture the word JOY (my most favorite word ever!).  Added a ribbon tab, they really work well on cards too.   The small punched flowers are topped with small buttons and rhinestones.

Added paper piercing for the charm butterfly trail and traced the clear embossing with an orange glitter pen.

Tag #2   Once painted reminded me of Halloween so I went with that theme.

Supplies used:  paint, Washi tape, doily, border punch, mini clothespin, embossing folders, embossing ink, glitter, fibers, flower punch, Gina K Designs stamp set, Wicked.

I used a Picket Fence embossing folder and made this 'gate-like' feature, held closed by the mini clothespin.

When opened, screams.....Happy Halloween.  :)

That's it for today.  And any hints, tips, or tricks for creating a Mixed Media project is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy your day and thanks for stopping by!

Mixed Media, Mixed Emotions......

There is an interesting challenge going on over at the JUGS website.

 mixed media
pl.n. (used with a sing. verb)
1. A technique involving the use of two or more artistic media, such as ink and pastel or painting and collage, that are combined in a single composition.

That might as well be written in Greek.  I did give this technique a try, and that's where the interesting part comes in.  :)  I think one of my major issues with this technique is that I am still trying to make a card using all of the guidelines I typically use when making a card.  It's too neat, too planned, I think I need to throw caution to the wind and get messy!  Well maybe the next time!

Here is my card:

I started by swiping a couple of Distress Inks onto a craft mat (actually an old laminated place mat, think Nana's House!)  I then spritzed the ink with Glimmer Mist and Liquid Pearls Mist, thought a little sparkle and shine would look great.  I also added some very fine glitter.  Once that was done it kind of took on the look of an ocean view complete with sunset, which was PERFECT!  I added some of that wonderful Glitter Snow by Aleene, to make the white caps of my waves.  A little paper piercing, jute twine, white paint dobs (using the end of a pencil eraser), black paint on some bubble wrap (love that look every does!), and some Tim Holtz's tape. I also added some texture using a metal sheet and a Cuttle Bug, Honey Comb, Embossing Folder.

The arrow is paper casted, another fun little craft to try out.  I actually made polymer clay molds from some of my stamps to create these little 3D gems.  I have shells, and flowers, arrows and lots of other goodies to choose from.  I picked the arrow to highlight the I Love You!   Stamp is from Gina K Designs, Gifts From The Sea.

Here is a great link for more information on:  Paper Casting.

I love, love, love the way this heart came out.  I cut 8 hearts out using my Cameo, in this awesome "card stock" I got at a local Printing Company.  It says it is only 100# weight but it is thick and solid, not quite chipboard, but definitely not card stock.  You should check out your local Printing Companies, they have some great deals.  I was able to purchase a ton of colored envelopes and card stock for a song, all on the clearance shelf.   I glued 7 hearts together and then ran the last one through a Sizzix Embossing Folder, capturing the 2 little love birds.  I then glued it on top, painted it with some craft paint and wha la!  I think that is my favorite piece on this project.

Overall I like how this project came out.  Will I try Mixed Media again, you bet!  But I will get some Gesso and go the "normal" route.  :)

If you haven't tried this technique before, head over to the Challenge and give it a whirl.   Spread your wings, get out of your comfort zone, I promise it will be a good experience!

Enjoy!

And as always, thanks so much for stopping by!
