Mixed Media Tag

Hubby and I are visiting my sister and mother in Tucson, Arizona. I know you're thinking why would anyone go and visit Arizona in the summer...we're here to give my sis a break while watching mom. We are experiencing high temps but also monsoons. Even as I'm typing this, it is raining hard with thunder and lightening outside. We even experienced a sand/dust storm. Now that was eerie!

I brought along some crafty supplies and my sis has some supplies here too. I had some downtime and decided to make (and film) a mixed media tag. I started out thinking I was going to make a card, but it turned into a tag and I just love it!

Check out the process video here - you even get to see me on this one!

Here are some photos of the final project:

I love how fun this was working with limited supplies and tools. It took a turn from "wasn't sure if I liked it" to "love it!"

Sketch-N-Scrap Card Sketch; First DT Submission

I’m excited to announce that I’m a new DT member of the Sketch-n-Scrap challenge blog. They host multiple sketches a month for both cards & layouts. Check out the site...you’ll be glad you did!

My first project for the DT is a card sketch challenge. The sketch:

My card:

I dug into my animal stamps for this one. Don’t you love that sassy poodle?! Doesn't it seem like she would actually say what's on the card? LOL

It was actually a pretty easy card to put together. I added some rhinestones to give her the bling she deserves & then added three more under the sentiment banner.

It’s hard to tell in the photos, but the light blue mat is pearlized paper. So pretty!

Be sure to click on over to the Sketch-n-Scrap blog to see what the other DT members have created as well as link up your own card!

New DT Announcement; Sketch n Scrap

I'm excited to announce that I'm one of the newest DT members for Sketch n Scrap. They have two card sketches and two layout sketches a month. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love using sketches when starting a project! It makes it so easy to start. Now the good thing about sketches is that they don't necessarily need to look exactly like the sketch - sometimes the sketch just inspires the final layout.

Read more about my introduction HERE.

I hope to see you link your cards and scrapbook layouts over there!

Guest Designer; Stick It Down

I'm super excited to announce that I'm a Guest Designer at the Stick It Down challenge site for this month. My single page layout was selected as a top winner a few months back so they invited me to be a guest designer. So cool! Of course I said yes!

I'm still finishing up my 2019 photos and I've finally reached November and more importantly, the birth of our first grandbaby! As you can imagine, I have tons of photos of the event and thought they would be perfect for this cute sketch.

The sketch:

My layout:

The video:

What I did/use:
I used my Cricut to cut all the diamond shapes out of a variety of pink patterned papers - all from my scraps - YES!

As you know when working with a sketch, your project does not have to look exactly like it but can be inspired by it. I loved the look of the diamond shapes but I did not use as many as the sketch nor did I do any wet medium/mixed media to the base. I did add some splashes of Color Silk because that's about as much "mixed media" I do to my layouts.

I had a lot of fun gathering all my pink embellishments to see what I could use. I am pretty proud of myself for using stuff that have been in my stash since the beginning of time. Do you see the flower eyelets, baby feet brads??? Those were so much fun to add.

I also used my Cricut to cut the large title and the small pink label took the place of the subtitle.

Be sure to check out Stick It Down. Each month, they offer a 2-page sketch, single page sketch and a card sketch. If nothing else, go check me out! LOL

Products Used:
Pink cardstock and paper scraps from my stash
Pink sequins, rubber embellishments from Close To My Heart (CTMH)
Pink "x" are actually crosses from Illustrated Faith
Pink flower eyelets and brads from my stash
Pink enamel hearts from Eyelet Outlet
Black hearts and "cute" are also from the rubber embellishment pack from CTMH
White POSCA paint pen
Outrageous Pink & Whipped Cream Color Silk splash from Fun Stampers Journey (FSJ)

LTCCB #39: Baby Is Brewing

Hi there, I’m excited to post my first Design Team project on the Love To Craft Challenge Blog. I live a crafty life! I love it! In fact, I almost always say, “I can make that”. This is both my blessing and my curse. Anyone crafty knows exactly what I’m talking about!

October challenge at Love To Craft Challenge Blog is anything goes.

My project:
Glass etching...have you tried it? This was my first time and I loved it! We’re hosting a co-ed Baby Is Brewing baby shower for my son and DIL and I made these for the prizes. We don’t have a brewing company, but I thought this idea was pretty cute. (BTW, Durham is my last name.)

I created the “label” in Cricut Design Space using some downloaded SVG files and making my own SVG images.
Then I cut some vinyl for the stencils. I made six of them so I had to cut out six stencils. The hard part was weeding these tiny letters out.
Thick layer of etching cream. The instructions said to leave it on for 1-3 minutes. What?! Seriously, I left it on for 15 minutes for it to actually do some etching. While the cream is on the glass/stencil, use your paint brush to move the cream around. It actually thickens when it’s got a good etch. I put a bright green napkin in the glass hoping for a better photo, but it didn't do much good.
This is what they look like all filled and pretty:
And all bagged up in a cellophane bag & pink ribbon:

We included some gold kisses and yellow shredded paper to look like beer with some white shredded paper for the foam. I think they turned out really cute! In fact, I need to make more just for us to keep.

Don’t forget to click on over to the Love To Craft Challenge Blog for more DT inspiration and to link up your crafty project. See the blog guidelines for more information and as always, anything goes!

Bitten By The Bug 2 Announcement

Hey guess what?! I have been selected to be on the Bitten By The Bug 2 Design Team! You know I love using my Cricut and being on a DT gives me the opportunity to expand my projects!

My commitment begins next month, February and I'm excited to make my first project.  Click on over to their site to become familiar with their blog and their challenges. The DT members are amazing and I am looking forward to be inspired by them. I hope you join the challenges too!

Speaking of the Cricut...I was asked to make some zoo animals for a coworker's son's birthday. She only wanted the cutouts so it was an easy job. I made the animals using the Zoobaloo cartridge and the leaves are from the Life's a Beach cartridge. Everything is about 6" except the giraffe which is 8".

I took a last minute photo before handing them over to her and it is horrible. LOL I got a photo box for Christmas and really should have used it. But like I said, it was last minute and I just wanted to snap a photo.

TGIF; Thankful Friday #27; Quick Quotes Introduction

TGIF; Thankful Friday - This week I'm thankful for my planner. It's great to have one place to look for past events, planning new ones, and just as a memory jogger. I know calendars have been out there since the beginning of time, but the whole planner craze sure has made it fun.

Today is also my introduction to the Quick Quotes Design Team on their Blog Click on over there to read all about me - as if you didn't know me already - HA HA!

I had my daughter take a new bio photo since my last one was over five years old. She only took the one photo and we both were happy with it. Which is funny since I can't take a good picture to save my life.

My first project post will be later this month since I just received my box of goodies.  So excited!

I hope you become a regular at the Quick Quotes blog. Honestly, I just started following & they have incredible projects and we already know they have great products!

Be sure to leave a comment on what you are thankful for this week. I'd love to read all about it!

Stick It Down Guest Designer

I'm so excited to be the Guest Designer on the Stick It Down (SID) sketch site. Click on over to see the current sketches and join the fun.
Here is the 2-page sketch for December:
Gosh, isn't it just beautiful? I love those flowers under & around the photos. I knew I wasn't going to be able to match that with paper. I just happened to watch a YouTube video on watercolor roses (great timing) and I thought I'm going to give it a try.

Here's my layout:

After selecting & trimming the photos, I placed pencil marks on the white cardstock so I would know where to concentrate on embellishing. Then I went to town on creating a background. I love mixed media but never tried it on a scrapbooking layout. I love the way it turned out! That's why I love sketches & challenges. It sure is a way to work outside your comfort zone and push you to do things you wouldn't normally do.

I started with the water colored roses - hated it - so I added more water to my brush and & tried to blend them more. Yup...love! I pulled out my mixed media supplies and added marks all over the pages. Items used: stamps, ink pads (red, gold, black & white), black glimmer mist, gold color silk, pencil, ink pen and water color paint. I wrote the title (eh, don't love or hate) with a Crayola paint brush.

Click on over to the SID site to see the write up, sketches and DT inspiration. I hope you join in too. An earlier post on their site indicated that they don't get many 2-page layout entries...won't you join me this month?

Creating a Bio

The hard part of being on a Design Team is coming up with a bio.  Here's mine from the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog.  Click FCCB to read the bio.  And while you're there, check out the current challenge.  If you're looking for reasons to use your Cricut, this is a great place to be inspired.

Click HERE to get to the home page and view the current challenge.  Chirp on!

BTW, love this photo of me.  The cardigan I'm wearing gives me a faux hourglass figure that is so NOT mine...but I'll take it!  The top I'm wearing is one of my designs from VIDA.  Check out my shop at VIDA.

Read All About It; Stamp Prints

Happy Friday!  Carly and I are on our way to a 3-Day Crop at Katie's World in Stockton, CA.  Even though I have the Command Center to scrapbook anytime I want, I just haven't found the time!  So, we packed up our rolling totes and are dragging ourselves a few towns over to JUST DO IT!
I'm so excited!  I'll post photos next week of the finished layouts.
GOAL = crank 'em out!!
Last week I was notified by Lilian from Stamp Prints that I am featured on her blog this week.  I just recently became a Guest Designer for her.  This came by way of the Design Team assignment at Decorate to Celebrate.  Stamp Prints is a regular sponsor there and once a month, I get to play with a digi stamp of my choice from her collection.

Read all about the Guest Designer post here: Stamp Prints

And then check out her blog.  She has a variety of digi stamps for all of your projects.  I know I'm having fun with them!
It's funny, I never really liked digi stamps, but they are slowly finding a place on my craft table.

Have a crafty weekend!!
