sweet and low

Welcome to finish it up Friday!
Last weekend at camp I finished my low volume slab quilt. She's a pretty little thing that I'm calling sweet and low. Many thanks to my friend Brianne for coming up with the clever name! The top is all scraps. My favorite! It took over a week to piece the top, which felt like for-ever! But, there are tons of tiny pieces in it, so I guess that makes sense.
For the backing I used some of my treasured Katie Jump Rope fabric. You know that I must love the quilt top to use some of my out of print (hoarded) fabric. The bottom strip of fabric is a print I picked up at Loom when I was in Pittsburgh in May. I love to shop for fabric when I travel. It is THE perfect souvenir (if you ask me).
I auditioned a ton of different fabrics for the binding and this one was the winner. It came from my sweet friend Katherine years ago. I'm delighted to have found the perfect project to use it in. It's the perfect finishing touch! (Thanks a bunch, Katherine!)
Looking at this photo, it's apparent that I love polka dots. No new news there! :P
For the quilting I just stippled it. If I were to do it again, I would straight line quilt it in a herringbone pattern. Oh, well. Delayed inspiration happens sometimes. Maybe for my next one!
The finished quilt measures 46" x 53". I'm not a fan of having my photo all over my blog, but it was suggested that I need to make an appearance here once in awhile. This one is for you, Melissa! :)

I'm counting this as scrap project #6.

How about you? Do you have a finish to share? If so, please link up! Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Gorgeous! Sweet indeed, I love how calming LV fabric is and I agree the binding is the perfect finish. I think herringbone quilting sounds really cool, off to google that!

Amanda, this quilt definitely deserves to be called Sweet. Not easy work with yellows as you did in this quilt (at least for me!).I also like the low volume quilt made by Cheryl on your book. I'm gonna give it a try someday. Thank you for the inspiration ;-)

It looks fantastic! I horded all the low volume scraps at camp from those baskets and I've been buying a bunch online. You've inspired me to make my own even though I didn't think it was my style before. Loved sewing with you at Camp Stitchalot!

Love this one! It really is a sweet little quilt. Surprising how well scraps can look together...sometimes much better than a fabric line ever could. I'm Pinning this one!

Love this quilt and I love your Finish it Up Friday updates. It motivates me. Crazy right? And I love seeing the less notable bloggers gorgeous quilts because in fact there are thousands of talented bloggers beyond the 20+ everyone knows about bloggers. The variety inspires me!
Thank you.

Oh, how I love your Sweet and Low quilt. I was drooling over those gorgeous scrappy low volume fabrics, then admiring the backing (wish I had some of that KJR in my stash ;o) AND then... I stopped short... hey, wait a minute! I know that binding fabric... I think I'd forgotten that I sent you some of that vintage find. Have to agree, it's PERFECT on Sweet and Low. Yay! Totally meant to be. LOVE IT.

I was hoping to finish the cardigan I was knitting, but was a bit busy giving birth! I'm so crafty I make people. :D

What a pretty quilt! It says "summer" all over it. I haven't had time to finish anything due to work and travel, but enjoy seeing what others have been working on.

What a neat quilt! And I like seeing photos of the women whose blogs that I read :-)

Love it! I've been looking forward to making a low volume quilt ever since I bought your book. I chuckled when I read your comment about taking a week to piece the top and it seeming like forever. At the rate I'm going, I'd be happy with a month! Of course, it's all about ebbs and flows (this is my attempt to reassure myself that next week I will finish 7 quilt tops!).
