Ribbon Heart Valentine Headband

When I was a kid my mom would make sure I had accessories for every holiday, often making them. To this day I still like to wear holiday earrings, pins and hair accessories. As you can see this heart ribbon makes and adorable headband but it can probably be used for so much more, such as, a pin or a Valentine's day card.     Supplies: 3 yards of 3/8" Wide Ribbon (I used two colors so you will need a yard and a half of each) Glue Gun Scissors Headband Felt Cut two sets of ribbon in the following sizes: 4.4", 5.5" and 6.5" Using a lighter carefully singe the end of the ribbon to stop it from fraying. Align one set of ribbon so they are flush on one end. Using the glue gun, hot glue the aligned ends together in order, largest to smallest. You should have two sets of three. Take your two groupings of ribbon and align them in a "V" gluing the right hand set on top of the other as shown above. Take the s...

Free Downloadable Valentine

As promised, here is another free downloadable Valentine that uses buttons. Maybe I will put a little dent into my large button stash. If you want to put your Valentine into an envelope I designed it to fit in a standard A7. What you will need: Color printer and cover stock paper Glue Buttons Xacto knife and ruler Click here to download the template as a PDF. Print the tags on card stock paper. Cut along the dotted lines to cut out the Valentine. Take your buttons and arrange them using the heart outline at the bottom of the card. After you have arranged the buttons in a heart shape glue them in place.

Button Tag Valentine

As you may know, I have a large button collection. I have a particular weakness for button jars and have over a half a dozen of them. I am always trying to come up with crafts that use buttons. So I decided that this Valentine's day I would come up with a series of downloadable Valentine's using buttons. Here is the first one, a Valentine tag with button bobby pins. What you will need: Color printer and cover stock paper Bobby pins with a glue pad (I recently saw them at the local craft store but if you can't find them there, you can find them all over Etsy) E6000 Glue Buttons Xacto knife & ruler Hole punch Ribbon Click here to download the template as a PDF. Print the tags on card stock paper. Cut along the dotted lines and use a hole punch to make the circle in the top center of the tag. Take a dab of E6000 and put it on the glue pad. Glue the pad to the back of a button. Set aside and let it dry for 24 hours. When setting aside the bobby pin...

Guinness Shamrock Pin

As a child we always celebrated St. Patrick's day in my house. I remember having a collection of St. Pat's pins that I could wear on my boring school uniform...a new one for each year. To this day I love St. Patrick's day so I decided to make myself a grown up (but fun) shamrock pin. Supplies 1-bottle of Guinness beer Green felt Pin back Scissors Needle and thread (match to felt) Hot glue gun Drink beer and save bottle cap. Print out the pattern below and cut out 4 large petals, 1 pin cover and 1 base from the felt. (Use the scale to make sure the print out is the correct size). Thread the needle and knot off the end. Put a gather stitch the flat bottom of the small petals until they are all stitched together in a row. Pull the thread to gather the petals and tie a knot but DO NOT cut the thread yet. Wrap the petals around to start forming the clover and stay stitch it in place, now you can cut the thread. Glue the round base to the center of the clover. Glue on the...

The Perfect Card for a Serial Killer

My husband and I aren't what you would call a lovey couple. So our Valentine's day doesn't usually come with candy hearts with sweet sayings or mushy bad poetry Hallmark cards. Usually I try to make him something or buy him a little something handmade. This year I got him a zombie tshirt from Geek Things on Etsy and decided to make him a card that truly expresses how I feel about him...that I love him to pieces. If you feel the same about your sweetie, feel free to download this artwork and give it to your Valentine. Click here to download a pdf of this card . The card should be printed at 100% on letter sized (8.5 x 11) paper. Trim the card using the crop marks and fold in half. The final size is 4.25" x 5.5". I printed my sample on red card stock to give it a little more XOXO. Recycled Package Topper

Ever get tired of the same ole bows on top of those presents? Well change it up a bit with this recycled package topper. This topper can be made from the card board rolls that you have left over after you have finished your wrapping paper and they are super simple to make. Supplies 1-card board roll (or paper towel roll) White glue Ribbon (long enough to fit around your package) Scissors (I used both plain and fancy edged) X-acto knife Scraps of colored or scrap book paper Compass Ruler Take the card board roll and flatten it. Measure out eight 1.75" wide sections and cut them. Put white glue on about a half inch of the bottom of one of the card board pieces then glue it to another of the card board pieces. Continue glueing the card board sections together to form a circular star. Cut a circle out of your scrap paper that is 2.5" round. (NOTE: I used scissors that had a fancy edge but regular scissors would work fine. I also cut a second 2" circle from another color and ...
