Sunset on Greenhouses

 Sun shining on greenhouse frames

Looks like something is on fire but it's just the last rays of the sun reflecting off the metal frames of plastic covered greenhouses, most of the plastic having blown off in the wind.

Another view

In front of the greenhouses you can see the shelves plants are moved around on.

Nature's Ice Sculpture

Can you see the heart?

Last week the weather was COLD.  A natural spring near my home flows year round. This week the splatters formed interesting shapes and then slowly melted. Some of the shapes you can see here.

Black Squirrel

Photogenic, pesky black squirrel

Yes, they DO create a lot of damage but they are also fun to watch. For sure they cause less chaos than humans do, though.  Just sayin'.

Butterflies Still Here!

 Butterfly on aster

Until the beginning of last week, out weather has been unseasonably warm. Still, I was quite surprised last Sunday to see butterflies on the north shore of Lake Ontario.

Monarch on clover

There were quite a few monarchs sipping nectar, possibly migrating southward.

Roses are still blooming in my gardens and bees are finding them irresistible.

Foggy Golf

Fog lifting off a pond at a local golf course

Lately a few mornings have begun foggy here, an opportunity to take some moody photos.

On a golf course in early morning fog

Foggy but unseasonably warm, it was also a chance to enjoy some early morning fresh air.

Looking back at the photographer

This golfer was wondering why I was taking photos in the fog. I was wondering why he was hitting balls. (What if he couldn't find his ball?) Both of us were wearing soaking wet shoes from walking in grass heavy with dew.

Viceroy

Viceroy on asters

Last Monday was a lovely day and various butterflies were busily sipping aster  nectar. I haven't seen a ton of viceroys this year but I have seen a few.

Boating at Sunset/Top Shot

Motoring in and paddling out

The east of Cook's Bay side looking westerly is a wonderful place to take photos at sunset.

Hummingbird Moth/Top Shot

Hummingbird moth

This critter has been visiting my Buddleia several times a day for the past few days. I cannot tell you how many failed photos I have taken of this moth because I have ditched most of them. This moth never stayed still!

I've been trying to capture the wings so you couldn't see see the motion, as in the photo below:

Example of more wing action than I wanted, plus a cloud covered the sun

To stop the wing action, I decreased the shutter speed so much that most of the resulting images were very dark.  Yep, frustrating.

FINALLY, one photo nearly turned out the way I wanted.

Pond Life/Top Shot

 Damselfly convention?

The pond is scuzzy but look at the gorgeous damselflies that live there!

Harbour at Owen Sound/Top Shot

Near sundown, Owen Sound

The water is low in Georgian Bay and swimmers are mostly waders at this beach. But the channel into the yacht club has been dredged so boats can come and go.

Bubbles/Top Shot

Mom taking photos of son making bubbles

One subject I dearly love to photograph is other people taking photos. I wonder if I was in the photo she was taking.

First experience making bubbles

Canada Day (July 1st) was a great day for waving a wand to make magical bubbles.
