U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions Warns Paul Ryan To Adapt To Trump Or To Resign

Sen. Jeff Sessions, left, with House Speaker Paul Ryan

[From article]
Senator Jewff Sessions has a bit of friendly advice for Speaker Paul Ryan and other GOP leaders who are hesitant about endorsing Donald Trump. Or maybe it's more of a warning.
Accept the fact that Trump is the Republican nominee or leave office.
[. . .]
Sessions is absolutely correct. You can't have it both ways - denouncing Trump and remaining a Republican. You should either resign and leave office or get behind the nominee chosen by Republican voters.
Those Republicans toying with a third party candidate are delusional. Why not just start a "Republicans for Clinton" club and be done with it? There is nothing principled about actively undermining the only alternative to a Hillary Clinton presidency and those who insist a third party candidate can actually win are insane.
A political party is a voluntary association - except when you choose to help lead it. Then it becomes incumbent on a leader to bow to the will of the voter when they choose a nominee. Basic democracy 101.
I expect several high profile Republicans to get that message eventually and either exit the party or support the nominee. Their hesitancy at this point is only helping Clinton.

Citizen Letter To US Senators

Senator Patty Murray
Senator Maria Cantwell
Washington, DC , 20510

Dear Senators:
I have tried to live by the rules my entire life. My father was a Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, who died of combat related stresses shortly after his retirement. It was he who instilled in me those virtues he felt important - honesty, duty, patriotism and obeying the laws of God and of our various governments. I have served my country, paid my taxes, worked hard, volunteered and donated my fair share of money, time and artifacts.

Today, as I approach my 79th birthday, I am heart-broken when I look at my country and my government. I shall only point out a very few things abysmally wrong which you can multiply by a thousand fold. I have calculated that all the money I have paid in income taxes my entire life cannot even keep the Senate barbershop open for one year! Only Heaven and a few tight-lipped actuarial types know what the Senate dining room costs the taxpayers. So please, enjoy your haircuts and meals on us.

Last year, the president spent an estimated $1.4 billion on himself and his family. The vice president spends $ millions on hotels. They have had 8 vacations so far this year!
And our House of Representatives and Senate have become America's answer to the Saudi royal family.
You have become the "perfumed princes and princesses" of our country.

In the middle of the night, you voted in the Affordable Health Care Act, a.k.a. "Obamacare," a bill which no more than a handful of senators or representatives read more than several paragraphs, crammed it down our throats, and then promptly exempted yourselves from it substituting your own taxpayer-subsidized golden health care insurance.

You live exceedingly well, eat and drink as well as the "one percenters," consistently vote yourselves perks and pay raises while making 3.5 times the average U.S. individual income, and give up nothing while you (as well as the president and veep) ask us to sacrifice due to sequestration (for which, of course, you plan to blame the Republicans, anyway).

You understand very well the only two rules you need to know - (1) How to get elected, and (2) How to get re-elected. And you do this with the aid of an eagerly willing and partisan press, speeches permeated with a certain economy of truth, and by buying the votes of the greedy, the ill-informed and under-educated citizens (and non-citizens, too, many of whom do vote) who are looking for a handout rather than a job. Your so-called "safety net" has become a hammock for the lazy and not the needy. And, what is it now, about 49 or 50 million on food stamps - and the program is absolutely rife with fraud and absolutely no congressional oversight?

I would offer that you are not entirely to blame. What changed you is the seductive environment of power in which you have immersed yourselves. It is the nature of both houses of Congress which requires you to subordinate your virtue in order to get anything done until you have achieved a leadership role. To paraphrase President Reagan, it appears that the second oldest profession (politics), bears a remarkably strong resemblance to the oldest.

As the hirsute first Baron John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton (1834 - 1902), English historian and moralist, so aptly and accurately stated, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." I'm only guessing that this applies to the female sex as well. Tell me, is there a more corrupt entity in this country than Congress?

While we middle class people continue to struggle, our government becomes less and less transparent, more and more bureaucratic, and ever so much more dictatorial, using Czars and Secretaries to tell us (just to mention a very few) what kind of light bulbs we must purchase, how much soda or hamburgers we can eat, what cars we can drive, gasoline to use, and what health care we must buy. Countless thousands of pages of regulations strangle our businesses costing the consumer more and more every day.

As I face my final year or so, with cancer, my president and my government tell me "You'll just have to take a pill," while you, Senator, your colleagues, the president, and other exulted government officials and their families will get the best possible health care on our tax dollars until you are called home by your Creator while also enjoying a retirement beyond my wildest dreams, which of course, you voted for yourselves and we pay for.

The chances of you reading this letter are practically zero as your staff will not pass it on, but with a little luck, a form letter response might be generated by them with an auto signature applied, hoping we will believe that you, our senator or representative, has heard us and actually cares.

This letter will, however, go on line where many others will have the chance to read one person's opinion, rightly or wrongly, about this government, its administration and its senators and representatives.

I only hope that occasionally you might quietly thank the taxpayer for all the generous entitlements which you have voted yourselves, for which, by law, we must pay, unless, of course, it just goes on the $19 Trillion national debt for which your children and ours, and your grandchildren and ours, ad infinitum, must eventually try to pick up the tab.

My final thoughts are that it must take a person who has either lost his or her soul, or conscience, or both, to seek re-election and continue to destroy the country that I deeply love. You haveput it so far in debt that we will never pay it off while your lot improves by the minute, because of your power.

For you, Senator, will never stand up to the rascals in your House who constantly deceive the American people. And that, my dear Senator, is how power has corrupted you and the entire Congress. The only answer to clean up this cesspool is term limits. This, of course, will kill the goose that lays your golden eggs. And woe be to him (or her) who would dare to bring it up.

Sincerely,
Bill Schoonover

Sen. Jeff Sessions: How Trillion Dollar Budget Was Passed, In Secret

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)

[From article]
Senator Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) Republican of Alabama, in a blistering interview Thursday night, shed some light on the details.
According to Sessions, lawmakers found out what was in the bill by talking to lobbyists, who had a better idea than they did as to what was being included in the bill. “No member of even the House and Senate knew what was going on,” he told Portland, Oregon talk show host Lars Larson. “Special interests did because we heard from lobbyists what some things were being considered.”
Sessions went on to note that basically four members of congress put the deal together without consulting their colleagues. “It’s not right for ultimately four members, in secret — for reasons we have no understanding of — to make critical decisions on things,” he said.

US Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL): Omnibus [Budget Bill] Explains Why ‘Voters Are In Open Rebellion’

SenatorSessions

Published on Dec 16, 2015
BACKGROUND:
In the dead of night after 2am this morning, Congressional leadership unveiled a more than 2,000 page 'omnibus' year-end funding bill which would, among other things: fully-fund the President's refugee expansion; fully-fund sanctuary cities; fully-fund the resettlement of illegal aliens youth and their families crossing the border; lock-in tax credits for illegal aliens; and quadruple the highly controversial H-2B foreign worker visa being used to replace Americans as truck drivers, construction workers, theme park employees, and in blue collar jobs across the nation.

Sessions, the Chairman of the Immigration Subcommittee, issued a statement about the bill as it speeds to a vote before it can be read, observing in part that GOP voters: "have come to believe that their party’s elites are not only uninterested in defending their interests but – as with this legislation, and fast-tracking the President’s international trade pact – openly hostile to them." On the floor today, Sessions further reminded his colleagues that their duty is the American people - not special interests, immigration advocacy groups, or lobbyists for narrow business concerns.

Sessions observed that - as the omnibus paves the way for a huge immigration increase beyond today's record-breaking highs - that more than 8 in 10 American voters want the level of immigration in American frozen or cut, and yet the GOP-led Congress is about to surge it even higher.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau - even without these increases - immigration will add the population equivalent of 1 new Los Angeles to the country each 3 years.

The U.S. has admitted 59 million immigrants since 1965. As historical context, after the numerically-smaller 1880-1920 immigration wave, future immigration was reduced to promote wage growth for US-born and immigrant workers: there was zero net growth in the foreign-born population over the course of the next half-century (in fact, it declined markedly). Now, after five decades of unprecedented immigration, the U.S. is on path to add another five decades of unprecedented immigration on top of that - setting new all-time records every single decade to come.

Fred Thompson, US Senator, Movie Star, Lawyer For Government Whistleblower, Dead At 73

Fred Thompson and his typical young wife.

[From obituary]
"Fred once said that the experiences he had growing up in small-town Tennessee formed the prism through which he viewed the world and shaped the way he dealt with life," his family said. "Fred stood on principle and common sense, and had a deep love for and connection with the people across Tennessee whom he had the privilege to serve in the United States Senate. He enjoyed a hearty laugh, a strong handshake, a good cigar, and a healthy dose of humility. Fred was the same man on the floor of the Senate, the movie studio, or the town square of Lawrenceburg, his home."
[. . .]
As an attorney, he helped lead to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. As an actor, he starred in some of the most prominent films and television series of his time. And as a politician, he served the state of Tennessee in the U.S. Senate from 1994 to 2003, before making a brief run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
[. . .]
"He was a good-ol'-boy from Lawrence County with a lot of talent and a lot of gifts,"
[. . .]
Born in Alabama, Fred Dalton Thompson grew up across the state line in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. Known then as "Freddie," Mr. Thompson was described as a "class cut-up" and "clown" by a high school basketball teammate in a Boston Globe article.
Although he was a well-respected athlete, his high school banned him from playing basketball after he married then-wife Sarah Lindsey at the age of 17. Not a particularly impressive student, he struggled with school and his future until his father-in-law gave him the autobiography of Clarence Darrow, the famed attorney from the Scopes trial in Dayton, Tenn.
[. . .]

Photo: Billy Easley/AP
Thompson is seen with client Marie Ragghianti in 1977, when he was working an attorney. Tenn. Gov. Ray Blanton was accused of firing Ragghianti for refusing to go along with a cash-for-clemency scheme.

In 1977 Mr. Thompson found himself representing the whistle-blower in one of Tennessee's biggest political scandals. In her role as a parole administrator, Marie Ragghianti refused to release inmates granted pardons after paying then-Gov. Ray Blanton. Mr. Thompson successfully represented Ragghianti in a wrongful termination case, helping her win a settlement and a return to her job in 1978.
That case eventually became the subject of a book and launched Mr. Thompson's acting career. Mr. Thompson played himself in the 1985 version of the movie “Marie." Critics praised his performance, and more roles soon followed.

Deleterious Effects of Sen. Edward Kennedy's Immigration Act of 1965

[From article]
Democrats haven’t won any arguments; they changed the voters. If anything, the Democrats have stopped bothering to appeal to Americans. The new feminized Democratic Party says, That’s too bad about those steelworkers in Ohio losing their jobs, but THERE’S A WOMAN AT A LAW FIRM IN NEW YORK CITY WHO DESERVES TO MAKE PARTNER!
Republicans should be sweeping the country, but they aren’t, because of Kennedy’s immigration law.
[. . .]

More than 30 million of Obama’s votes came from people who arrived under Teddy Kennedy’s immigration law; fewer than 10 million of Romney’s did.
The 1965 act brought in the poorest of the poor from around the globe. Non-English-speaking peasants from wildly backward cultures could be counted on to be dependent on government assistance for generations to come.
[. . .]

As of 1970, there were only 9 million Hispanics in the entire country, according to the Pew Research Center. Today, there are well more than 60 million.
We’ve already taken in one-quarter of the entire population of Mexico, most of whom seem to live in Los Angeles. For the last decade, nearly half of all felons sent to California’s prisons have been Hispanic, according to the Department of Corrections.
[. . .]

No country has ever simply turned itself into another country like this.
With the media cheering the end of America and businessmen determined to keep importing cheap labor, Democrats don’t even bother hiding what they’re doing.
[. . .]

The Democrats got the voters — and the country got 9/11, Fort Hood, the Boston Marathon bombing, clitorectomies, an explosion of gang rapes, child rapes, sex tourism, slavery, voodoo, Russell Brand, billions of taxpayer dollars stolen in Medicare and Medicaid scams, an epidemic of heroin deaths, soccer, bankrupt school districts and hospitals, overcrowded prisons, and endless tax hikes to pay for all the immigrant services, as small town after small town goes all-Mexican, or all-Somali or all-Hmong.
[. . .]

The cultural left is overjoyed at the remaking of our society into one that is poorer, browner and less free.

These changes are entirely the result of government policies that were never debated, much less put to a vote. Americans have not been consulted on the question of whether to turn our country into some other country. Never mind what we’re doing. You’ll thank us later.

US Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) Answers White House Claims on Iran Nuclear Weapons Agreement

For those in the House and Senate who remain undecided about the deal’s merits, little could be more instructive than a side-by-side comparison of Schumer and Obama’s statements,

[From article]
When Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced that he would vote against the nuclear deal with Iran, he didn’t just take a position -- he rejected every major argument President Obama has made on the agreement’s behalf. Schumer argues this is not a deal that prevents Iran from getting nuclear weapons, but one that brings it to the threshold of nuclear weapons capability. He states that its verification and enforcement mechanisms are flawed. Finally, he points out it provides Iran with tens of billions of dollars it could spend on subsidizing terrorism and other violent pursuits.
If Schumer’s goal were to lose the fewest friends possible, he could have provided a tepid rationale for his position that did not lend so much credibility to the arguments made by the deal’s opponents. But Schumer also makes his arguments in a thoughtful, even courtly manner-- in sharp contrast to President Obama, who insisted in a mean-spirited address on Thursday that the merits of the deal are so obvious that one should dismiss any criticism as “knee-jerk partisanship” or mercenary opposition bought and paid for by wealthy donors.

US Senator Graham Calls Trump, Jackass; Trump Reveals Graham's Cell Phone Number

Senator Graham Swinging Bat At His Cell Phone

Here He Shows How He Put A Screwdriver Through His Cell Phone

[From article]
McCain sparked Trump’s temper last week when the senator said the businessman’s inflammatory remarks about Mexican immigrants had brought out the “crazies.” McCain said Tuesday he would no longer respond to Trump’s comments.
Graham, a McCain friend and one of the 16 notable Republicans running for the presidential nomination, betrayed the growing exasperation and anger of many in the party when he appeared earlier on “CBS This Morning.”
“Don’t be a jackass,” Graham said. “Run for president. But don’t be the world’s biggest jackass.”
He said Trump had “crossed the line with the American people” and predicted this would be “the beginning of the end with Donald Trump.”
[. . .]
Still, many of Trump’s backers in early-voting states argue the response to his comments about McCain has been overblown.
“I think it’s going to improve his viability, to be honest with you,” said Lou Gargiulo, one of Trump’s county chairmen in New Hampshire. “The more Mr. Trump is being beaten on by people, obviously the better his polling numbers are.”

Sen. Sessions Calls For More Assimilation, Less Immigration

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)

[From article]
The terror attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee carried out by an Islamic immigrant from Kuwait has cast new attention on the inability of the United States to properly screen the 100,000 Middle Eastern immigrants added to the United States each year, as well as the tens of thousands of additional Muslim youth admitted as foreign students.
In a comprehensive statement on the attack issued today, Senator
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) Chairman of the Senate Committee on Immigration and the National Interest, explained why this incident, and many others like it, demand new immigration controls: “The events described above do not occur in isolation but are often part of broader networks, groups, and pockets of radicalization made possible by unwise immigration policy.”
Sessions listed a number of recent attacks carried out by immigrants voluntarily imported into the United States:
[. . .]
Based on these events, Sessions called for immigration curbs and a new emphasis on screening immigrants based on their capacity to assimilate. Broadening his critique, Sessions referenced Calvin Coolidge in explaining why he felt compassion and moderation demanded lower immigration levels after the four-decade immigration explosion experienced since 1970. Sessions’ push for immigration curbs contrasts with the push led by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to triple the already historic admission of one million immigrants each year.
[. . .]
Sessions writes:
We should not admit people in larger numbers than we can reasonably expect to vet, assimilate, and absorb into our schools, communities, and labor markets. It is not compassionate but uncaring to bring in so many people that there are not enough jobs for them or the people already here. As Coolidge said: “We want to keep wages and living conditions good for everyone who is now here or who may come here.”
[. . .]
USCIS council President Ken Palinkas [. . .] declared: it is essential to warn the public about the threat that ISIS will exploit our loose and lax visa policies to gain entry to the United States… There is no doubt that there are already many individuals in the United States, on visas—expired or active—who are being targeted for radicalization or who already subscribe to radicalized views… Many millions come legally to the U.S. through our wide open immigration policy every year—whether as temporary visitors, lifetime immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, foreign students, or recipients of our “visa waiver program”… Our government cannot effectively track these foreign visitors and immigrants…

US Sen. Jeff Sessions Warns of Deception By US Rep. Paul Ryan on New Secret Trade Deal. Another Attempt To Diminish Sovereignty of US

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), right, says U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, left, (R-WI), is deceiving Americans About Secret Trade Legislation

[From article]
Sessions’ final “critical alert,” one of several he’s issued throughout the Obamatrade process, shows House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been engaged in deception as he attempts to guide Obamatrade’s passage through the House.
“Promoters of fast-track executive authority have relied on semantic obfuscation in an effort to deny the obvious: the President’s top priority is obtaining fast-track authority because he knows it will expand his powers and allow him to cement his legacy through the formation of a new political and economic union,” Sessions said.
[. . ]
If, as promoters amazingly suggest, the President had more powers without fast-track, he would veto it. The authority granted in “Trade Promotion Authority” is authority transferred from Congress to the Executive and, ultimately, to international bureaucrats. The entire purpose of fast-track is for Congress to surrender its power to the Executive for six years. Legislative concessions include: control over the content of legislation, the power to fully consider that legislation on the floor, the power to keep debate open until Senate cloture is invoked, and the constitutional requirement that treaties receive a two-thirds vote. Legislation cannot even be amended.
[. . .]
Without granting Obama fast-track authority, Sessions notes that Congress remains in charge of trade policy and negotiations. Congress would keep the ability to amend trade deals and the Senate would still have power to filibuster against them—but that’s only if the House shoots down TPA on Friday. If the House passes TPA, there’s no telling what President Obama might do with the new power Congress would be ceding to him.
[. . .]
In other words, Ways and Means is intimating that this new secret Pacific Union would function like a third house of Congress, with legislative primacy, sending changes to the House and Senate under fast-track procedures (receiving less legislative procedure than, for instance, Post Office reform). Moreover, this legislative fast-track, Ways and Means implies, is limited to that which requires a ‘change in U.S. law’—meaning if this President (or the next) argues it is simply an executive action, not a legal action, the Executive could have a free hand to implement the Commission’s decrees without Congress. This is not merely a loophole; this is purposeful delegation of congressional authority to the Executive and to an international body. The fast-tracked implementing legislation would have the ability to make these delegations binding as a matter of law.

Arab American of The Year 2013 On NPR, Asks Sen. Bernie Sanders If He Is Israeli. Hehe.

[From article]
NPR host Diane Rehm declared during an interview with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) that he had dual Israeli-American citizenship Wednesday before Sanders set her straight, adding he was “offended” by the comment.
Sanders, who is Jewish, is pursuing the Democratic presidential nomination.
“Senator, you have dual citizenship with Israel,” she said.
“Well, no, I do not have dual citizenship with Israel,” Sanders replied. “I’m an American. I don’t know where that question came from. I am an American citizen, and I have visited Israel on a couple of occasions. No, I’m an American citizen, period.”
Rehm apologized, but said she had seen a “list” that indicated Sanders was, and then she asked Sanders whether he knew if there were members of Congress who had dual citizenship themselves.
“I honestly don’t know, but I have read that on the Internet,” Sanders said. “You know, my dad came to this country from Poland at the age of 17 without a nickel in his pocket. He loved this country. I am, you know, I got offended a little bit by that comment, and I know it’s been on the Internet. I am obviously an American citizen and I do not have any dual citizenship.”
[. . .]
Rehm’s biography page notes she was named Arab American of the Year in 2013 by ACCESS “in celebration of her rich Arab heritage.
Rehm gave a statement to Jewish Journal this afternoon about the incident, saying she was sorry for making a mistake but “glad to play a role in putting this rumor to rest.” She also said she’d read about his supposed dual citizenship in a Facebook comment.
[Funny the imam brother of Boston suspect killed by JTTF, said he read a social media site that his brother was shot in the back and was on the phone with his dear father asking for a witness. His Harvard Law school Professor lawyer explained it was an inadvertent mistake. Amazing how much credibility is placed in social media. That is not to say that highly paid professional journalists are any more reliable. Ahem!]

Tennessee Senator May Have Proper Respect for Complexity of Middle East Conflicts

[From article]
Were Barack Obama more prudent than vain, he would want congressional collaborators in problematic foreign ventures. He has, however, ignored the historical norm whereby presidents specify the authority they need. He has offered no substitute for the 60-word AUMF [authorized use of military force] from Sept. 18, 2001, which authorized force against "those nations, organizations, or persons" complicit in 9/11. This was a decade before the Islamic State — which is not a nation and has no clear borders or regime with which to deal — existed.

Harvard University's Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Objects To Immigration Abuses of White House

Sen. Ted Cruz speaks to guests at the Iowa Freedom Summit on Jan. 24, 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa. (credit: Scott Olson/Getty Images)

[From article]
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, believes that the Obama administration is “counterfeiting immigration documents” under the president’s immigration plan.
Speaking to Fox News following a federal judge’s decision to temporarily halt President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration, the potential Republican presidential contender said the commander in chief is ignoring federal law.
“One of the things it points out is the president has claimed, rather absurdly, that the basis of his authority is ‘prosecutorial discretion.’ That he’s simply choosing not to prosecute 4.5 million people here illegally,” Cruz told Fox News. “But what the district court concluded, quite rightly, is they’re doing far more than that. The administration is printing work authorizations. It is affirmatively acting in contravention of federal law. Basically, what its doing is counterfeiting immigration documents, because the work authorizations its printing are directly contrary to the text of federal law. It is dangerous when the president ignores federal law.”
[. . .]
Hanen’s ruling late Monday night, in a case brought by 26 states led by Texas, said that Obama and his Homeland Security Department lacked the authority to take the actions they did.
“No statute gives the DHS the discretion it is trying to exercise here,” wrote Hanen, and he issued a stay blocking the actions from taking effect. His order was not a big surprise from a Republican-appointed judge who has showed a hard line on border issues.

US Senator Jeff Sessions Published Lengthy List Of White House Abuses of Power

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
[From article]
As Republicans work to overcome a Democratic filibuster of a House-passed Department of Homeland Security bill that blocks President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is highlighting the Obama administration’s long history of dismantling immigration laws.
In a lengthy timeline released Monday, Sessions — the chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest — lists every instance of the Obama administration ignoring, rewriting, delaying and breaking the nation’s immigration laws.
The timeline begins in January 2009 with the administration ending worksite enforcement actions and, 50 pages later, ends on February 13, 2015 with the House Judiciary Committee’s revelation that the administration included a “sneaky” avenue for illegal immigrants granted deferred status to be placed on a pathway to citizenship.
Sessions’ list comes at a pivotal point in Republicans’ fight to preserve the nation’s immigration laws. In November, after the midterm elections, Obama announced he would provide unilateral amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

US Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) Announces Opposition To AG Nominee

US Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)

[From article]
Paul asked the team about Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) question during Lynch’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing about whether she’d oppose using a drone to kill an American citizen on American soil.
When Paul heard about her non-answer—she wouldn’t commit that the federal government does not have such authority—he was incredulous. Furthermore, Paul was appalled that Lynch came out in favor of President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty and the use of asset forfeiture—where the federal government seizes people’s property sometimes with flimsy reasoning, something even the Obama administration has offered slight opposition to—and then told his office staff he’s going to oppose her and aim to derail her nomination chances. “Oh, she’s going down,” Paul said to the room.

Few Young Voters Know Either US Senator From Their State

[From article]
For one thing, they say they’re increasingly engaged ahead of the all-important election — but it’s also clear they’re not very well-informed. And they think government can help them, particularly in an area where they’ve struggled to get ahead — in their jobs.
[. . .]
According to the survey, 49 percent say they are politically unaffiliated — including a majority (58 percent) of young Latino voters, half of young male voters, and half of the 25-29-aged voters in the sample.
[. . .]
77 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds in the new survey could not name even one US senator in their home state.
[. . .]
The finding provides fodder for the suggestion that millennials are relatively uninformed political citizens.
[. . .]
Where millennials differ from the rest of the American population, however, is in their view that, overall, government is generally good.

US Sen. Jeff Sessions Named Chairman of Immigration Committee

[From article]
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is now chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration, his office announced in a Thursday release. Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)—another immigration hardliner who’s stood with Sessions every step of the way over the past several years—will serve as that subcommittee’s deputy chairman.
Sessions will also chair the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Strategic Forces Subcommittee. This announcement comes after Sessions, who was in line to chair the full Senate Budget Committee, stepped aside to allow Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) to chair it. Enzi asserted seniority, even though Sessions has been ranking member for the last four years. Sessions and Enzi were elected to the U.S. Senate on the same day, but Enzi technically due to the luck of the draw.
[. . .]
Vitter said in a statement that it’s time to make life difficult for illegal aliens in America.
“Border security enforcement will be my top priority on the Judiciary Committee – and specifically as Deputy Chair of the immigration subcommittee,” Vitter said. “Living in the U.S. illegally will become more difficult and less satisfying over time when the government – at all levels – enforces the laws already on the books. I’m looking forward to working on legislation to secure our border and stop our self-inflicted illegal immigration crisis.”

US Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL): Congress Must Oppose White House Abuses Or Become Irrelevant

[From article]
“A vote against the House bill is a vote to turn the Congress into a museum piece,” Sessions said Friday following a congressional retreat in which it become apparent that Republicans are nervous about using the Department of Homeland Security funding as leverage to stop the immigration policies. “A ‘no’ vote is to acquiesce to the greatest erosion of Congress’ lawmaking authority in my lifetime. A ‘no’ vote is a vote to leave our immigration system vulnerable to the most dangerous extremists. A ‘no’ vote is a vote to further erode Americans’ chances of getting a job, raise, or promotion.”
Sessions reminded colleagues that Congress refused to pass laws providing the benefits that Obama is conferring unilaterally on people in the country illegally.

Husband of US Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) Set To Earn $1 billion From USPS Sale

[From article]
Ever wonder how lowly paid lawmakers leave office filthy rich?
Sen. Dianne Feinstein is showing how it’s done.
The US Postal Service plans to sell 56 buildings — so it can lease space more expensively — and the real estate company of the California senator’s husband, Richard Blum, is set to pocket about $1 billion in commissions.
Blum’s company, CBRE, was selected in March 2011 as the sole real estate agent on sales expected to fetch $19 billion. Most voters didn’t notice that Blum is a member of CBRE’s board and served as chairman from 2001 to 2014.
This feat of federal spousal support was ignored by the media after Feinstein’s office said the senator, whose wealth is pegged at $70 million, had nothing to do with the USPS decisions.
When the national debt is $18 trillion, a billion seems like small change.

US Senator Warren Is Very Wealthy

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)

In Heritage Costume

[From article]
The same woman who said of the hate-the-rich Occupy Wall Street movement, “I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do. I support what they do,” is not only wealthy beyond the dreams of most Americans but is part of the very 1% that the Occupy Movement venomously vilifies.
How rich is Warren?
She is worth between $3.7 million and $10 million, leaving out her three-story Victorian home in Cambridge, Mass., worth 1.9 million.
Her average net worth is $8.75 million.
Most of her wealth is invested with TIAA-CREF; she and her husband each have $1 million in the TIAA-CREF Traditional fund, which guarantees your principal will never be affected, you are guaranteed a minimum interest rate, and your income stream will never die.
She received an advance of $525,000 to write her book A Fighting Chance.
She and her husband earned $981,000 in 2009 and $955,000 in 2010.
She was paid $430,000 as a Harvard professor in 2010 and part of 2011.
This is the same Warren who once told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, “I realize there are some wealthy individuals – I’m not one of them, but some wealthy individuals who have a lot of stock portfolios.” She forgot that she owned between $100,001 and $250,000 of IBM stock, of course. Her spokesman Kyle Sullivan later lamely claimed, “Elizabeth was making the point that, unlike many members of Congress, she does not have a broad portfolio of stocks in individual companies. If elected, she’ll get rid of the one stock she does own.”
This is the same woman who snapped in September 2011, “There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.”
This is the same woman who said while supporting Senator Mark Udall, “Republicans believe this country should work for those who are rich, those who are powerful, those who can hire armies of lobbyists and lawyers.”
