Who Do I Think I am? Wow! part 34

The previous Who Do I Think I Am? featured my great great grandfather Robert Cabel Tyson. I mentioned they had 8 children, one was of course, my great grandfather Obediah Hargraves Tyson. Another one was my wife Anna's great great grandmother, Eliza Frances "Fannie" Tyson (1844-1927). She married James Ephram Kuykendall (1848-1915).

James Ephram and Fanny Tyson Kuykendall family.

They had 10 children. One was Louisa "Lula" Kuykendall (1868-1923). She married Henry Gable Wright (1857-1936). they had 5 children, one being Anna's grandmother Lessie Mae Wright (1891-1957). Lessie married James Oscar Prance (1880-1961) and they were Anna's grandparents.

Which means my wife is my 3rd cousin, once removed.

Arch Kuykendall (1883 - ? ).

Arch F.. Kuykendall was the youngest son of James Ephrah Kuykendall (1848-1915) and Eliza Frances "Fannie" Tyson Kuykendall (1844-1927).

Fannie had a brother named Archibald Tyson. I bet Arch was named after him and he preferred the nickname Arch. I know I would.

I have no other information about Arch F. Kuykendall. He was probably born in Cherokee County, Georgia.

The Family and the Crop

This is Ola E. “Ollive” Kuykendall, her husband D. F. Sheffield and their two children Archibald and Ethel. I only have two dates to work with here. Ollive was born 24 Jan 1879 and she married D. F. (Frank) in Cherokee County, Georgia, 20 Jul 1898.

Ethel, the oldest kid, looks about 8 or 9 years of age. I think an estimated date of the picture would be about 1910-11.

The back drop looks like crop of some kind. I have seen more than several pictures of a man or a family be photographed near their crop. It was something to be proud of.

James Leslie "Pepper" Martin

James “Pepper” Martin of Marietta died Tuesday. He was age 84.

I did not realize it until I read his obituary this morning that we are possibly related. His mother was Annie Kuykendall. In my genealogy records I have Annie Kuykendall the daughter of Abraham and Martha Walker Kuykendall. Annie living dates were 1900 to 1961, so her dates would probably fit as the same as Pepper's mother would fit.

Pepper co-coached the Little League team I was on (Southern Discount) for two years with Romeo Hudgins.

Pepper seemed to be laid back, casual and soft spoken. He seemed happy to be in the background and let Romeo do all the shouting and threatening to fight aggressive parents and in general be the loudmouth of the team.

Pepper was also the sports announcer, aka “Voice of the Devils” for the Marietta High Football games for a many years on WFOM-AM radio.

Pepper also had a musical radio program on WFOM that he played mellow instrumentals. I think the name of that was “Candlelight Music With Pepper” or something similar. He also worked for Lockheed Aircraft.

His son was my son Rocky’s music director in the Sprayberry Band. Marietta is a small town among the natives.

Betsy Kuykendall

This is Elizabeth "Betsy" Kukendall and her husband, a chap with the last name Chapman.

I don't have much on her/them. She was born in 1844, and the brother of James E. Kuykendall (Picture of he and his wife Frances Tyson viewed earlier) and married Mr. Chapman and they moved to Alabama where they had a store. This picture of them is standing in front of that store.

I don't know if you can see it well or not but in front of the window to your left is a transparent blur. Is it a person that was there for a short time in the photograph that had its lens opened a long time with a small aparture for the photograph or is it a ghost?

Archie Kuykendall

Do you remember Archebald Kuykendall?

The last time you saw him he was a small child in a family photograph on a blog on April the 12th. He grew up like a weed didn't he?

The Missing Link

Well, not exactly missing, but a link anyway. And it did make a good subject intro.

The mature mother in this picture is Frances Tyson (1844-1927) beside her is her husband James Kuykendall.
They are Anna's ancestors. Beside them could be a possibility combination of two of her ten children, or one of her children and one son-in-law or daughter-in-law. It looks like the young female may be "in a family way".

Getting back to Frances Tyson Kuykendall: We already said she is Anna's progenitor. Frances grandparents were Eugene Haraves/Job Tyson (1798-1868) and Frances Eliza Portress Herring Tyson (1799-1878), which were not only Anna's ancestors, but also mine.

I had an earlier entry about Eugene Hargraves Tyson and his sister Winston who was near-by when the Cotton Gin was invented.

Because of common ancestors that makes Anna and I 3rd cousins, once removed.

We didn't know this until I got reserching my family tree and Anna's mother was searching Anna's father's family tree, and we bumped heads.

Frank and Ollive Kuykendall

This is Frank and Ollive Kuykendall and their son Archiebald, who became a well known person in the comminity and his sister Ethel who married a Sheffield.

Just a glance at their names and the Soundex system in mind, the first thing I think of is Kuka, Fran, and Olive. And if it does the same to you, all I can say is, "What about that Medicare!"

They are related to my side of the family and also related Anna's side of the family.
