Varner Reunion 2013 Video

This is one of the videos made at the 2013 Reunion

Remember, this year Varner's Reunion will be tomorrow. It will start at Noon, outside  at the American Legion, on Gresham Avenue.    See old friends, Enemies  and bullies.   There will be grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and a kitty jar.

So put on your Devil-May-Care Cool look with a slightly amused smirk, tight-ass Levis,  and be a trophy friend, just like old times.

Ralph Harper and Joe Jenkins at the 2014 Varner Reunion.  It appears that they are awed at each other.

A REMINDER:  If you show up tomorrow at the American Legion expecting to party with old friends, you may or may not get your wish,  it is according to how many other people didn't get the message about the reunion being upped a week because of bad weather predictions.

The real date and time now is next week at, same place, at Noon on Saturday, May the 2nd.

Mayor at Varner's Reunion

Here is a picture of the current Marietta  mayor Steve "Thunder" Tumlin  when he attended the 2013 Varner Reunion.  Today is his birthday.  How do you wish a high social  ranking person as a mayor Happy Birthday?  I watched enough Downton Abby to know that:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY M'LADY!

Remember, This year's Varner Reunion will be Saturday, April the 25th, noon, at the Horace Orr American Legion in Marietta.

Mayor Bill Dunaway at the 2011 Varner Reunion

Bill Dunaway at the 2011 Varner Reunion.  I think he was at the end of his second term  as Mayor of Marietta .  You might wonder why his arm is in a sling in this picture.  Shaking a lot of hands?  Well,  most people shake with their right hand.  Slapping a lot of backs?  That too, would be a right hand job.  Maybe the sling is a conversational piece.   This year's Varner Reunion will be at the Horace Orr American Legion, or Gresham Avenue, in Marietta,  April  25th.  It starts at noon, outside.  See old friends.  Hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on a grill will be available.  Rolling drunks will start at sundown.

The Tolberts at the First Varner Reunion

Judy Hicks and Steve Tolbert at the first Varner Reunion in 2009.  You may remember Judy's father's and her Aunt Regina's Hicks Grocery at the end Atlanta Street and the corner of East Dixie Avenue.    You might remember Steve too because he was the one staring at you when you were staring at Judy.  Remember, this year (2015), Reunion will start at noon Saturday, April the 25th, outside, at the American Legion on Gresham Avenue, here in Marietta.

Think on the positive side:  It might not rain.

Gossiping at the Varner Reunion

In this picture we see Bobby McEntyre and Arnold Guest, listening to  David Clackum at a Varner Reunion.  It looks like David is telling some surprising gossip.  Come to the Varner Reunion, Saturday, April 25, at noon, at the American Legion, so if the current gossip is about you,  you will be there to  defend your good name.

Tommy & Terry at 2010 Varners Reunion

Tommy and Terry go back a long time knowing each other.  As a matter of fact for Terry it is a lifetime.  They are the Townsend Brothers at a Varner Reunion.  I'm sure they will be at the upcoming one also, which is Saturday the 25th, noon, outside, at the American Legion.

Forwarding is a NO NO!

As a rule I do not forward email stuff.  It is  common knowledge that  much of the emails that are designed to be forward gives you a dose of spy-wire and other kind of computer viruses.    I am doing you a favor when I do not forward you something, because this could harm your computer or the very least  slip in a spy virus to report all your habits and use it, maybe to try to sell you things the spyware found you are interested in or who knows what.

The more they say the forwarding email  will bring you good luck or avert bad luck there is a higher chance it has these viruses and spyware in it ready to spring when opened.   Some are even inspirational to get to your humanity side.  Your nice humanity side is spreading   viruses.  Do yourself a  favor and don't open them.

That is why I  never open them and delete them.

this is about the 3rd time I have preached against forwarded emails.  So far, my preaching hasn't sunk in to many people.

Which reminds me, before I self-imposed the rule of no forwarding mail allowed,  a cousin sent me a forwarding email several years ago listing the etiquette and confidentiality of forwarding email.  It was something she forwarded.  One of the things listed was to delete any other names and emails addresses that are listed in the forwarded before it is forward, no telling what someone could do with those addresses.  Evidently, she didn't read that part -  all the names she forwarded it to and all the names previously forwarded were listed also.

35 Days Until The Varner Reunion

Ken Chaney

On your calendar draw a big red circle  around April he 27th for the Varner Reunion.  They call it a reunion for a reason.  It means "re-unite".  See friends (and enemies) of long ago in your formative years.  Ask them, "How ya doing?"  Compare who looks the oldest!  Compare checkbooks!

For straight off the stuff Varner information link:

 www.varnerreunion2013.com.

"Straight off the stu!ff" used to be a way of bragging when you let go a stinking flatulent, of course that was before we were grownup and mature.  Come to the Varner Reunion and act like a teen again!

LARRY MILLER

Have you noticed this post on this blog before? It has been posted several times. Everyday when I had a new post this one slides down more out of view. When it slides off the page it is time to repost. Hi!

Have you ever faced a life-threatening illness for which there is no treatment or cure? Have you ever become overwhelmed by the costs of your illness? Have you ever had to rely on your family and friends to make a life-saving difference on your behalf? Larry faced these conditions all at once. Larry was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Emphysema, and Pulmonary Hypertension. There are no treatments for these diseases and there was no hope for him without a lung transplant.

Larry was evaluated and approved for a bi-lateral lung transplant at Emory University Hospital in April. On May 14th Larry received the call from Emory saying they had lungs for him. His transplant was performed on the 15th with excellent results. Due to the generosity of the donor’s family, he received a very healthy set of young lungs (to use the surgeon’s words).

Larry is recovering exceedingly well and was released to go home on the 31st of May. He is gaining strength each day by following his drug regimen very carefully and by following a vigorous program of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

His recovery is great news, but with it comes enormous annual costs for post-transplant treatments and medications. I have known Larry and been his friend since the 5th grade (1953) so I offered to head up his fundraising committee. We are working to help Larry raise money to cover some of these costs. Fortunately, Larry qualified for a matched account in the Georgia Transplant Foundation’s (GTF) Fundraising Program, GTF will match every dollar we raise up to a maximum of $10,000, and then they will hold the money and administer the distribution for Larry’s medication expenses. You are receiving this letter because your name was found in Larry & Milly’s address book under the heading Friends & Family. We need Your Support to reach the $10,000 Goal! Please consider making a donation to help us raise the funds Larry will need to buy post-transplant medications which will support the maintenance of his transplant.

How to Donate Checks/money orders should be made payable to Georgia Transplant Foundation with Larry’s name in the memo section of your check. Please mail checks/money orders to Georgia Transplant Foundation, Attention: Transplant Fundraising Program, 500 Sugar Mill Road, Suite 107-A, Atlanta GA 30350. An envelope is enclosed for your convenience. Thank you for supporting this life-saving campaign. The Georgia Transplant Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides financial, educational, and emotional assistance to Georgia’s transplant community, is assisting us in our fundraising efforts.

If you have questions or want further verification, please see the Georgia Transplant Foundation website at www.gatransplant.org or email TFP@gatransplant.org. If you have already made a donation, please accept our thanks.

Sincerely,

Paul Roper
Committee Chairman
