My buddy, Cal, sent me this awesome Jonathan Schoop quad relic out of 2018 Museum Collection a while back as part of a trade. I can't remember what I sent him in return, but I'm pretty sure it was a signed 1971 Topps. He will probably read this and comment, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was.
The Museum Collection cards are always some of my favorites. I can never afford to buy the boxes or even packs, but when some nice ones pop up on Ebay, I try to grab a few.
Thanks for the trade, Cal!

2017 National Card Show - Trade Night Pickups
One of my favorite things from this year's National was that a fellow Instagrammer hosted trade nights at a neighboring hotel for a couple nights after the show. We made it to trade night for Friday and Saturday nights. At the trade nights, I was able to pick up a couple nice Trey Mancini autos from a couple folks that I'll show with the rest of the Mancini suff that I picked up. I also was able to purchase two different Bowman's Best Riley Pint autos from a guy named Phil. He had the Pint cards because he used to play against him in local ball, but was ok with letting them go for cheap.
I believe I picked up both Pint autos for a total of $30. I was really happy with that, and will likely hold onto both of them as I follow Pint's career. I have shuttered my Sonny Gray side PC, since he is a Yankee now, and am likely to sell off all of those cards. It will be nice to transition to another player who isn't an Oriole. It also helps that I have met Pint in person.
Another fellow Instagrammer made a point to seek me out at the trade night and work up a deal for me to land this Cal Ripken auto from Upper Deck Sweet Spot. This is a rare Sweet Spot auto that didn't fade all to crap, but the surface of the card itself is pretty jacked up. The trader (TimHudsonfan) made a great deal with Max for the card, and I then bought the card off of Max for cheap.
Remember the lady I spoke about who helped me with Ron Davis? Well, I had told her about the trade nights, and her and her boys showed up on Saturday. It turned out that her oldest son was someone I traded with on Instagram back when I was first getting started. We worked out a deal for another Trey Mancini auto, along with this Mountcastle patch auto. We also discussed a future 50/50 since both of the boys are Indians fans and I will be seeing Lynchburg soon.
I also met a fellow Instagrammer (santiagosportscards) who has been following me for a long time. We discussed an orange parallel that I had gotten out of my box of Pro Debut. I was just going to give it to him, but he insisted I take this Jonathan Schoop auto, as well. He also had a gold refractor auto Schoop from 2014 Topps Chrome. I almost walked out of the trade night with that card, but he said he didn't really want to sell it. So, I told him that he should keep the card, but let me know if he ever wanted to move it.
Finally, I got this graded 1987 O Pee Chee Barry Bonds RC as a throw in to one of the deals that I made at the trade night. I can't remember who I got it from, but I figured I would pick it up since it was a nice RC that I didn't have. Also, since it was a throw in, I couldn't argue about the price!
So, I know that if I go next year, I will definitely make time for the trade nights, if they are being hosted. I had a great time and left with some really cool stuff!

March 31, 2017 - Orioles vs. Tides Exhibition
With weeks of preparation, a day off from work and a 2.5 hour drive to Norfolk, I had hoped that I would rack some autographs. I braved the rain this morning and waited outside Harbor Park to see if I could "graph" the Orioles or Tides pre-game. I wasn't successful at all. It rained the whole time I was outside the park, and when the players got off of the charter buses, they went inside without stopping. I did have company the whole time, though. I met an older fellow named Joe, a fellow grapher, and very talkative guy. It helped to pass the time as we waited patiently for folks to arrive and/or the weather to slack off.
I got to the park just after 10:00AM and they allowed us in just after 1:00. It was still raining pretty hard when I got in the park (see the pools of water in the above photo?). I was starving, so I went ahead and got lunch while I waited for the rain to stop and head to my seat.
I bought an "Oriole Dog" that consisted of a jumbo all-beef hot dog, mac n cheese and crab meat. I don't normally go for odd dogs; usually just chili, slaw, ketchup and mustard, but I figured I would try something new. I'm glad I did! This was a really amazing hot dog, and I would get another one!
The rain let up, and I made my way to my seats. I had two seats, but my good friend, Ryan, was unable to make the trip. It is a shame that he couldn't make it, because the rain did clear out, and a game was played.
This was the last game on the exhibition schedule; before a couple real games on Sunday and the rest of Opening Day on Monday.
I got to see all of the Orioles stars (at bat is Chris Davis), and a home run by J. J. Hardy. THe game ended in a tie, 3-3. They stopped the game at the conclusion of the 9th inning due to more bad weather that was on the way.
I waited outside the clubhouse entrance with a bunch of other people, and my weeks of preparation for autographing finally bore fruit. I got ONE card signed! I had a chance to get a few others (Davis, Buck, Adam Jones), but I wasn't fast enough locating their pages in my new graphing book (despite it being in alphabetical order), and getting my Sharpie out. I learned that "graphing" is best when you have a partner to help you hold things, get pens out, get cards ready, etc. However, I did get this 2014 Bowman RC signed by Jonathan Schoop. I would call this a success, for sure. I actually thought I had gotten a 2015 Bowman signed, which would have been ok, too, but I do love 2014 Bowman, and this is his RC.
So, there you have it, my first real attempt at "graphing" a team. It wasn't a failure by any stretch. I had a blast. The weather sucked pre and post-game, but it was beautiful during the game. I had a nice long chat with the guy beside me, and laughed a lot at the drunk folks behind me heckling the players from both sides.
I plan on "graphing" a lot more, especially since Kinston finally has a team again. I think by next season, I will have this whole thing worked out to a science, much like my TTMs. In the meantime, I will enjoy my ONE Schoop auto.

Christmas Gift From Reed
I received a really nice gift right before Christmas from my friend, Reed. He is a huge Orioles fan who has been following my Instagram page since I started trading cards in early 2014. We met at Fan Fest a few years ago, and now I help him with TTMs. He's a really great guy who I hope to keep helping with TTMs and trading.
Reed hooked me up with some Orioles cards, two of which were ones he was able to get signed in person. The above Jonathan Schoop is from the 2014 Orioles Team Set, which is something I didn't have yet. This will look really awesome in my album.
Here is a 2012 Topps Brian Matusz that Reed sent along. I really hope I marked it down with my 2012 Topps when I got it, because I don't remember if I did or not. It doesn't matter, because I'll count them up sometime, and will update the ledger.
Thank you so much for the gift, Reed, I really appreciate it. I hope we can meet up at Fan Fest in a couple weeks!

Christmas Gift From Nick H.
I got a really nice package and note in the mail from my friend, Nick H. right before Christmas. He included two Stadium Club cards for my set, and also a few Orioles for the collection. This 2015 Topps Manny Machado logoman pin is a really cool card that I didn't have in my collection. The back of the card got a little messed up in shipping, but you can't tell when looking at the front. I still love the card, regardless.
I love these Topps Trajectory Autos from 2014 Topps. This will go with the Ripken that I pulled. This design might be one of my favorite across all brands, sets and subsets of baseball cards. It just looks really cool and the color coordination of them really stands out.
Nick is a really nice kid that I have been trading with on Instagram for most of the past year. He is a big Michael Choice fan, so I got him a Team USA patch card for Christmas. I really hope to do some more deals with Nick in the future, because he is really nice and easy to deal with.
Thank you so much for the Christmas gift, Nick! I loved all of the cards and the note that you sent!

Christmas Gift and a Deal From Brayden
I got a surprise direct message a few days ago from someone on Instagram that I had never talked to before. His name is Brayden, and he told me that he wanted to send me a care package because he had seen that I did a lot for the card community. Brayden had some Orioles cards that he wanted to give me and we continued talking well after this was established. It turns out that Brayden gets a lot of autographs from around Texas and had some baseballs I was interested in. We made a quick and easy deal for the above Adrian Beltre signed ball.
The ball is a 2011 All Star baseball, but it was signed on the wrong side panel. I didn't mind, and Brayden was really nice and made me a sweet deal that I couldn't refuse. I wanted the ball because I feel like Beltre will be a Hall of Famer once he becomes eligible, so he would fit into my HOF collection.
Brayden included the initial cards that he wanted to send with the Beltre ball. Among them was this 2012 Bowman Platinum Schoop. All of the cards Brayden sent were great, and I really appreciated them. The best part of it all is that I feel like I made a new friend. I hope we can keep making deals and talking in the future because he seems to be a really nice guy!
Thanks for the awesome deal and Christmas package, Brayden!

Deal For Schoop Bobble Head Yields A Headache and Extra Cards
I try to keep my blog posts positive, especially when I am discussing trades and deals with fellow collectors. Most deals end well, I'd say 99.9% of them do, but sometimes, you learn from doing a deal with someone that you are better off declining them in the future.
This leads me to today's post. On September 6, I paid a guy I know from Facebook and Instagram a sweet price for a Jonathan Schoop bobble head and another bobble head. He was desperate for money, and after I initially declined his offers for the items, he finally lowered the price to something I just couldn't pass up and I reluctantly said we had a deal. He was even going to throw in an OMLB ball that I had sent him to graph with, but never ended up using. Subsequently, communication stopped after the Paypal payment (friends and family, of course) and I wasn't informed that the stuff had shipped in the days that followed. I messaged him a couple times about a week later to see if he had shipped yet and I got no response. Finally, he asked me for my address on September 19 and apologized for taking so long to ship. A couple weeks went by, and still nothing, so I sent a couple messages to see what was going on, and they weren't even opened. I kept my cool, but I was obviously frustrated, so I finally messaged him on every platform I had followed him on and said that he could just refund me the money and not worry about shipping the goods. I wanted to end the deal amicably, since I still believed we were friends. Within a minute of sending the message to refund me the money, he said that his mom had forgotten to ship. He said on October 6 that he was sending extras to make up for the slow shipment. Finally, on October 23, I got the package. Inside the package was the stuff I bought, in good shape, yet, the OMLB wasn't there.
He did add a bag of autographed cards to the shipment, I guess to make up for everything, but has not actually sent me any kind of message since October 6. I was never rude at all in the transaction, but my thought was that with the ignoring of messages and lack of communication, we probably weren't as good of friends as I thought we were. That's a real bummer, but honestly, it probably is for the best.
I've known the guy since I started on Instagram, but we have only completed one trade, and it went just as poorly as this one. I tried to let things go and not let it bother me, but I will not be trading with him any more. I don't think it will be an issue, since he pretty much stopped talking altogether. That's a real shame.
So, here are the IP autos that he sent along. These are all guys in the Orioles minor league system. Some of them are more promising than others, but they're all nice. I'm particularly interested in Tanner Scott, for sure, since he is a lefty and can top 100+ MPH.
This Juan Yepez from 2016 Bowman Chrome is a nice card, as well. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, but it is nice, nonetheless.
Finally, this Bowman Platinum Jonathan Singleton relic auto is also a nice card. I have an idea what I'll be doing with this, so we'll see.
I just feel bad about this whole deal, though. With the nominal amount that I sent him, I really shouldn't complain, but I think the lack of communication at all was a slap in the face. I even thought about sending him some additional money via Paypal to cover the cost of shipping, but then I thought that if it really were that important to him, he would have at least messaged me a lot more than he had been. The fact that this was the second time this has happened with the same person tells me that I will not be doing any kind of deals with him again. It's really sad.

Jonathan Schoop Pickups From The National
A National Card Show wouldn't be complete without my picking up Jonathan Schoop cards dirt cheap. I have continued to take advantage of him being grossly underrated, which is fine, since I can get some really nice stuff of his.
This year, I picked up some great parallels and a couple autos. The above green refractor from 2015 Topps Chrome is numbered 7/99 and came out of a dollar box. It was cheaper than a dollar because I got a bulk deal on it, so that made it even better.
This 2011 Bowman Platinum blue parallel was also in a dollar box. Even worse, it was unsleeved, just floating around loose in the box. It is numbered 9/199 and now resides in a penny sleeve and top loader.
This 2014 Bowman Chrome Mini blue parallel is numbered 112/250. It was ALSO in a dollar box and was floating around loose.
I don't remember what I paid for this 2011 Leaf Valiant Schoop auto, but I believe it was in a $5.00 box. Not too bad for a nice auto. This is a cool-looking card that definitely looks better in person. It didn't scan all that well.
Finally, here is a nice 2014 Tier One auto numbered 211/399 that was priced at $7.00, but I got cheaper since it, too, was part of a bulk deal. I need to sit down and count how many Schoop autos I have. I'm sure I have a bunch now.
Schoop is having a great season for the Orioles. batting .282 with 20 homers through 127 games. He has been a solid piece for the Orioles and could very well top out at more than 30 home runs this year. I believe Schoop will have a few big moments for the O's down the stretch.

My First Topps Now Card - Orioles Record Breaker
Topps came out with a really cool idea this season by putting the previous day's highlights on a card. The concept gets even better in that the cards are only available for order for 24 hours, then the print run stops. Some cards have been run for 200+ copies; some for over 1,000. There have been a couple Orioles ones issued this year, but I finally took the plunge on Topps Now when the Orioles tied the home run record for June.
I bought the card off of the Topps website for $9.99 and it ended with a print run of 526 copies made.
This card will be an entry in my Chris Davis PC, but when I was scanning the card for this blog post, I noticed something about the card that I didn't realize before. Have you caught it yet?
That is Matt Wieters on a Topps card. Why does that matter? Well, since he signed with the Orioles, Wieters has not been featured on any Topps products, with the exception of Topps Bunt and E-Topps. He has had no regular issue Topps cards. He signed an exclusive deal with Razor back in 2008 that would have allowed him to appear on Topps or Upper Deck cards one year after his debut. He has had no Topps cards at all, so either he or they have not budged. So, this Topps Now card could be his first ever Topps card (really, who counts E-Topps or Topps Bunt?). That makes this card that much cooler for me.
There are two other Chris Davis Topps Now cards that I have seen. I plan on picking them up, but am holding out for the National. My hope is that a vendor there will have them, and I can rack up. I really like this concept and hope that Topps keeps it up. I also hope some of my PC guys do some major things to end up on future offerings.

Mailday From Tim
A few weeks ago, I bought a few cards from one of the most reputable traders on Instagram, Tim. I haven't made a deal with him in forever, but I have talked to him some, and his kids quite a bit. His son Carson is someone I talk to quite a bit. I'm always happy to chat with anyone from that family, they are all really friendly.
This graded 1974 Brooks Robinson is pretty cool. It is a nice grade for a year of Topps that struggles with centering on cards. Since Tim made me a really good deal on it, I figured I would go ahead and pick it up. I have a few graded Brooks Robinson cards now, so this will go with those in my box.
I also got this nice 2013 Bowman purple parallel of Jonathan Schoop. I haven't added a whole lot to the Schoop PC lately, so this is a good pickup. Schoop is having a pretty good year so far, so I'm hoping I can add more in the future.
Thanks so much for the deal, Tim! I really appreciate it.

Instagram Trade With Alexander
I completed a trade last month with a guy from Instagram named Alex. I sent him something that I can't quite remember (I think it was a Bowman Sterling auto) in exchange for this awesome Jonathan Schoop auto from 2014 Inception. Inception is such a good product, but the Orioles haven't really had a whole lot of major prospects come through that set, with the exception of Schoop, Hunter Harvey and Christian Walker. I'm hoping the Orioles recent draft picks start to show up in products like this. Also, I can't wait to see stuff of Trey Mancini and Chance Sisco in this stuff as well,
Alexander included some extras in the package as well. They were a few Orioles cards, but the most notable was this Jimmy Paredes sparkle chrome from Topps Update. I wish Chris Davis had one of these this year, because I would be all over it! This card just looks so cool. It's too bad Paredes tailed off after the All Star break, because he was on pace to have a pretty special year last year. I hope he can bounce back. We'll see though.
Thanks for the deal, Alexander! I wish I could remember what I sent, but I'm sure you were happy with it.

Purchase From Frankie - 2015 Topps Museum Collection Quad Relic
As I laid in bed at my in-laws' house Christmas night, I browsed Instagram while I waited to fall asleep. On Instagram I saw that my friend, Frankie, had posted this nice 2015 Topps Museum Collection quad relic of Orioles Nelson Cruz, Jonathan Schoop, Adam Jones and Chris Davis. I liked his price, so I jumped on Paypal immediately and sent him a payment. I texted him right after that and told him I had purchased the quad. I loved Frankie's response when he texted back saying "I knew you would want that card!"
So, I was able to help my friend out a bit by making a purchase from him and I got another Museum Collection card to add to my Chris Davis PC. This card is numbered 25/99 and has a nice 3-color piece of Adam Jones's jersey (the one patch on the card). Cruz is a piece of bat, while Davis and Schoop are both jersey swatches.
I only had two other quad relics of these guys on 2015 Museum Collection. Those are numbered /25 and /75. With this one numbered /99, I now have three different serial number series. Not bad.
Thanks for the deal, Frankie!

Holiday Gift From Scott
I got a really nice holiday package from my good friend, Scott not too long ago. I feel bad that it has taken me this long to blog about it. I have a ton of Christmas stuff piled up to talk about, so I should be good on blog posts for the time being.
Scott got me a few really nice cards as my gift. The above Jonathan Schoop looks really great in person. It is numbered 17/35 and is from 2013 Topps Tribute. This is a really nice card, and I didn't have it in my collection yet.
Scott added this 2015 First Home Run coin card of Brooks Robinson that he has been sitting on for a little while. He had originally wanted to trade it, but we never were able to match up. I needed this for my Brooks PC, so I'm happy he ultimately added it.
Finally, Scott threw this Alfredo Marte 2013 Chrome Blue Refractor auto in as a kind of joke, since Marte was invited to Orioles spring training. This is a really nice card. I used to have one of these. I have a sneaking suspicion that this used to be the one I had, but I haven't confirmed it with Scott.
Thanks for the awesome holiday package, Scott! I loved everything that was in it!

Instagram Trade With Pinstripe_Pride
I completed a trade last week with a guy on Instagram who goes by the screen name of Pinstripe_Pride. I sent him the Nolan Ryan coin card that I pulled from 2015 Topps Update and he sent me this Jonathan Schoop relic/auto. It is numbered 159/299 and is from 2014 Panini Classics.
He didn't stop there. He sent a Willie Mays insert for Chris, an Eddie Murray from 2015 Topps Tribute and also this signed business card from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.
It was really awesome that he sent this extra stuff. I really appreciated it, and it was totally unexpected.
Thanks for the deal, pinstripe_pride!

Autos From Blaine
Finally, I have reached the end of the package I got from my friend, Blaine. Like I said in the previous posts, he sent me a ton of stuff; pretty much his entire Orioles collection. He sent me a bunch of autos that I needed for my collection, starting with the above 2008 Razor auto of Matt Wieters. Wieters signed an exclusive deal with Razor back then, and shortly thereafter, Razor disappeared. I haven't seen Wieters on any Topps products, so I think his exclusive deal still stands, but he has been on some UD products since then. I'm not sure what the deal is, but it kind of sucks that he has no Topps products at all.
Here is another Jonathan Schoop auto for my collection. Schoop is a really good player, and his autos are still very affordable. I grabbed a bunch for real cheap at The National, so my Schoop PC looks pretty good so far.
This 2015 Topps Career High auto of Adam Jones is another card that I didn't have in the collection. Jones's stuff is a bit higher than Schoop, so I tend to shy away from his autos. So, when I was able to add these to my collection via this deal, I was really happy.
Finally, here is another Jones auto, this time from 2011 Topps 60. You can see some subtle changes in the Jones signature between this card and the 2015 mentioned above.
Jones is one of the few Orioles that I haven't met, yet. I hope to take care of that at this year's Fan Fest. Maybe I will get him on an All Star ball, or something. We'll see.
So, that about wraps up my huge deal with Blaine. I feel bad to take his PC from him, but he made me a great offer that I couldn't refuse. I hope he gets back into collecting, though. He had a bunch of great vintage that I would hate to see him part with.

Jonathan Schoop Pickups From an Instagram Trade
I was browsing Instagram recently when I saw that a guy had a collection of Jonathan Schoop cards posted for a really good price. He wanted $30 for three cards, with one that really caught my eye. The above 2015 Topps 2014 Post Season patch is just a really cool card. The relic cards themselves are tough to pull, so a patch card is doubly so. I bought one at The National for $25, so getting this, plus extras for $30 was a no-brainer.
The patch card is numbered 41/100, and is really sharp. I'm holding out hope that the O's can pull out a miracle this season. Hey, stranger things have happened, right?
This is my first and only Sepia parallel from 2015 Chrome. I was glad that he had this, because I always enjoy the Sepia parallels. I hate that they are not numbered this year, but oh well, they're still nice.
Finally, another awesome card was this 2015 Topps Chrome gold parallel numbered 38/50. I don't know if I am going to pursue the Schoop rainbow, but if I do, I have a good head start. Again, I wish Chris Davis was in 2015 Chrome, but oh well. Schoop is a heck of a player, and I am glad to add these to my collection.
The guy I got all of these from is lukescards13, and according to him, I was his very first Instagram deal. I was happy to help him with a positive experience, and I hope that he continues collecting.

Care Package From Caleb
Back before I left for the National, I got a care package in the mail from my buddy, Caleb. I sent him a bunch of Braves stuff and a relic from a Braves minor league team. In return, he sent me this Bowman Sterling Chance Sisco auto and the below 2014 Bowman Chrome refractor auto of Jonathan Schoop.
With Matt Wieters leaving via free agency this off season, the Orioles will have to make do with Caleb Joseph and most likely Steve Clevenger until Sisco is ready for the majors. Sisco is probably the best prospect that the O's have now, since Kevin Gausman is in the majors and Dylan Bundy has been hurt so much.
I really want to get to a minor league game to see Sisco play next season. I missed out this year.
This Schoop auto is numbered 250/500. It is a really nice-looking card. I have quite a bit of Schoop autos and relics now, and it looks like he might just become one of my main PC targets once Chris Davis leaves Baltimore behind. Schoop is a really good player. I just wish he would stop attending the Adam Jones school of hitting. He swings at so many down and away pitches, it looks like a carbon copy of a Jones at bat.
Anyway, thanks for the cards, Caleb!!

A Christmas Present From Mom, in August, at the National
This past Christmas, my mom gave me a $20 prepaid Master Card to use on baseball cards. It took me until August to use it, but I think I did pretty well.
I challenged myself to get the best possible deal with the card, and the two cards I got far surpassed anything that I thought I would be able to find.
The above 2014 Topps Trajectory jumbo relic of Chris Davis would probably have found itself on next year's Top 10 Wishlist, since I really wanted one, but hadn't jumped on one yet. The card is numbered 11/99, and looks awesome. I really loved the Trajectory design, and now I have this and a Ripken auto.
I was also able to throw in this 2014 Topps Supreme Jonathan Schoop auto, numbered 45/45. This was the other Schoop auto I had referred to in my Schoop post a couple days ago.
The Davis jumbo has gome for $15-$20 regularly, so being able to get it, and the numbered to 45 Schoop auto was really a steal. I feel like I did a great job in my "challenge." I may do something similar at next year's show. Take a certain amount of money, and challenge myself to get the best possible deal, then blog about it. Seems too easy...
