THURSDAY FLOWERS, Mabel Plays Dress Ups !

On a dreary, wet Winters day, Mabel played dress ups ! (Mabel is a vintage dress formShe was tired of standing in the one spot for what seemed like forever and she thought that her wirey frame needed a face lift.

So the Queen of Mayflowers (Me.....hehe) decided to play !

Out came the roses, wire and secateurs.
(think Edward Scizzorhand)

Now Mabel is smiling with delight with her new look !
She has her purse, her dance card and she is ready for her handsome prince to pick her up !
(I don't have the heart to tell her that, that is probably never going to happen)

I think Mabel would look a treat welcoming guests at a wedding function and that in fact will be her new role.
Wedding or events will be her forte.
She is very much looking forward to her new title
'Lady Mabel Of Mayflowers'

She will be the belle of the ball as well as the token mascot of my business.

Hot pinks, red, pale peachy pink and white roses adorn her frame

Mabel's 1950's purse matches her dress perfectly !

and after all of the creating had finished, Queen Melanie of Mayflowers began the clean up just as the rain softly began to fall outside.

and THAT my friends, is the end of my story !

A Little Corner Of My World

I am in the mood for change....

That means furniture moving in every which way and things that once lived happily in the living room could end up in the kitchen.....or even garden !

I get 'itchy feet' and I have to create change around the house. Most people get in in the Spring time but for me, it can strike when you least expect it.  I think I inherited the 'change gene' from my Grandmother who was well known for moving whole rooms to another part of the house.  When my Father was young he returned home after a night on the town and didn't turn the lights on in case he woke the household up.  He walked into his bedroom and flopped down on to his bed..........only problem was that his bed no longer lived in that room !

While he was out partying my Grandmother had decided to redecorate and his bedroom was now located down the hall ! lol

I have not been known to go to that extreme, BUT I have the worst timing when  I do decide to make changes.  It is generally in the night time or just before it is time to begin dinner preparations.

Last night was one of those times.

My little blue table in the lounge room found itself moving up the hallway into the dining room.
It is now a new place to display more of my collectibles.

The pale blue coat of paint on my table tones down the timber on some of our furniture.  I am not a fan of stained furniture but one of the bigger pieces belonged to my late Grandmother and I can't bring myself to paint it.  My new little table has taken eyes away from the stained furniture and over to the table top and the display.

It wasn't belong before the hammer and hooks came out and I was hanging some frames above my table.....

Change is infectious
but good for the soul

I teamed my small collection of flower frogs with a big jug of freshly picked roses from my garden.
Pretty !

Who said that picture frames can't be hung without a picture in them !   I blu tac'd the old sheet music to the wall behind the frame and I left the other empty because I wanted the frame to be the feature. The writing on the sheet music  picks up the gold on the frame next to it perfectly.
I may hang a pair of gloves behind the frame........?

Small changes in ones home, no matter how small can be a lovely change.  Change is refreshing and the best thing is the creative energy behind it. It is so much fun moving things around !

Fair Weather Friends

Fair weather friends.....

I think you will agree that we all have them.
Often I wonder about friendships and what they actually mean.
Some come and stay for a while and then move on before you had even noticed that they have begun to walk away.

People can be very strange creatures and it can be very obvious right from the start of our lives. People who once meant the world and who you shared many fond moments with can very quickly be but a vague recollection of the past.

I think the trickiest part of friendships is letting them go when the time is right. Some of us can let go easily and move forward and yet sometimes it is easier said then done.
Some friends that you think that you will have forever can move on to a different world in a single instant. They can turn into completely different entities. They get wound up in their own lives and cease to remember the friends around them who once held their hand.
It is thought provoking to say the very least.

Other friends are loyal to the very end. They stick by you in times of grief and upset and do whatever they can to help you. They are not afraid to pick up the telephone to enquire how you are and always manage to make you giggle.
I am truly fortunate to have such people in my life.
These are true friends that have your back when you are falling down. I am forever grateful to these dear soul friends of mine who do just that.

When I was growing up, my Father used to tell me constantly that if I reached the end of my life and could count the true friends on one hand then I would truly be a lucky girl.

When I was a child, silly schoolgirl quarrels would always upset my heart. I constantly found myself in the roll of peace keeper all through my school years.
Maybe I was too wise beyond my years.
Do any of you feel as though you are indeed older in your mind then you should be ?
Do any of you feel more in tune with having friends who are a lot older than you because you have more in common with them ?
I do.

Friends come and they go. Some are put here on this earth to teach us lessons about ourselves. Some are put here to test us and show us the person that we never want to be.  Others just blow in gently in the wind and leave just as gently as they arrived.  Some even aren't your friend at all and you wished that you had known this before they came into your life.

The real friends in my life who resonate my soul and wake me up to the joys and wonders of the world, have arrived in such amazing ways.  Some I have had for many, many years whilst others only quite recently crossed my path.

One thing is for certain though,
friends are the family that we choose for ourselves.
They are the ones that come to feel like brothers and sisters and whom life will never be the same without. If we have these friends then we are indeed very rich.

To all of the friends and strangers that I have met along my path, I thank each and everyone of you for showing me the person that I needed to be and for showing me that I need to be true to myself.
I forgive all of those who have moved on who weren't faithful or pleasant.  If they hadn't come and gone then I would have never learnt these lessons that I needed to learn.

For one to bare their soul it takes great courage and conviction. Courage comes after hardship and trial, it can be a very valuable tool in our life.  It may not be easy moving through these times but I know that if I need a hand to hold along the way then I have a close friend each side of me that is not afraid to hold me up.

Today as I write this I would like to thank my forever friends.
I love you very much and know that you love me for who I am and for no other reason.
It does not matter whether we are anonymous or famous, to have a true friend is one of life's greatest gifts. Every single person on this earth needs to feel friendship, love and support.  When the wind is blowing the wrong way, sometimes we need a friend to help turn the sail around and point it into a new direction.

This is for you my sweet friends
You know who you are and I am very grateful for you !
May your lives be as rich and wonderful as you are.

A Valentine From Yesteryear

Valentines Day is one of those precious times of the year where you can truly show somebody special how much you admire or love them.

I love that this beautiful day gives the opportunity for an unknown admirer to send a card or flowers to their secret love interest.  There is nothing more exciting then receiving something anonymous and wondering who in heavens name sent it to you.

Many many years ago when money was tight and the majority of people could not afford to spend money on bunches of long stemmed roses they instead gave a beautiful card to their loved one.  Whenever I see these cards I always buy them because they seem to be getting harder to find.
I found these two pretty cards at an antique store recently. They were from different homes but were very similar in style. Both are turn of the century and so very fragile. All of the filigree paper is beginning to perish but the graphics are still perfect.
They are real little treasures and I adore them both.

I love the little secret message underneath the filigree flap.
The little seal has fallen off over time but amazingly I did find the tiny piece among the pile of cards that I sifted through to find this card. I was so lucky to find it as it really makes the card so pretty.

It's a little tricky to read the name on the card but I think the senders name was Bryan Sinfield.  He must have been quite smitten with the Miss that he gave this sweet card too.

This is the second card.
It is very similar with the same filigree from the Victorian era.
I love the little 'Oh Think Of Me' seal that is on the card.
More than likely sent to a sweetheart from an officer of war. A lot of war time greetings had this same greeting.
He must have been very lonely on Valentines Day !
Maybe he was home and about to leave for war soon after he gave this card.
I guess that something that I will never know for sure but it is certainly fun thinking of all the 'What ifs ' !

I hope that a little something finds it's way into your heart this Valentines Day.
There is nothing in this world that is more important then love.
