Funmigurumi Blockety Ducky Toy and Baby Rattle

Best Blog Tips

This toy is ideal to decorate a nursery, or if baby already plays with blocks, this one can be a lot of fun since it has feet, wings and a tail, it is also a tactile delight for little ones to explore, add to this the fact that it either rattles or it can be squeezed to hear it squeak, which can bring out all those lovable baby giggles you love to hear. It is relatively easy to make, it has a generous size, and it really cute once it is put together.

Rnd 1- 1 sc in 2nd ch from hk and all across. Working in opposite side across foundation loops of beginning chain, make 1 sc per loop. Sl st to join rnd. (18 sc)

Row 6- This time you will only work on the top of the beak. Slip st in first st, 1 sc in each of next 8 sc, sl st in next sc. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. With a little Black, embroider nostrils on top of beak to give Blockety Ducky a more duck-like look. Fasten off, weave in tail.

“Pink” of Cheeks- With Petal Pink and F hk, ch 2.
Rnd 1- Work 6 sc in second ch from hook.
Rnd 2- Make 2 sc in each sc around. Fasten off Petal Pink leaving long tail to sew with.
Pin these two rounds on both sides of beak, and threading blunt needle with leftover yarn, sew in place. Fasten off, weave in tail.

Blockety Ducky’s Eyes (make 2):

With black and F hook, ch 2.
Rnd 1- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew with.
Half rnd 2- Join White. Working in back loops only, make 2 sc in each of first 3 sc, sl st in next sc, Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.

Putting Blockety Ducky Together:
Stuff the beak with fiberfill. Take the block that will correspond to Blockety Ducky’s face, turn it so that the stripes of the sc rows will run vertically, and measure it with measuring tape, center the beak, pin down. Thread blunt needle and sew all around. Fasten off, weave in tail. Pin eyes on top of beak and sew in place.
Fasten off and weave tail. Pin “pink” of cheeks in place beside the beak and sew in place. Fasten off. (Face done.) Set aside.
Take the first block that will correspond to one of the sides, turn it so that the sc rows will run vertically and sew the wing right about the middle of it (measure so that both wings will be at the same level), repeat with the block that will correspond to the other side of block. Fasten off, weave in tails. Take square that corresponds to back of Blockety Ducky, turn so that sc rows run vertically, and center tail on lover part of that square, pin and sew in place. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Sew two pieces together for each foot. Barely stuff it so that the foot will still be somewhat flat. Close the foot entirely. Fasten off, weave in tail. Repeat with the other foot.
Sew the face block to the side blocks (the ones with the wings. Fasten off, weave in tails. Sew the bak block that has the tail to these three blocks. Fasten off, weave in tail. Sew the bottom block to all the blocks you have already joined. Fasten off, weave in tail. Decide if your Blockety will rattle or if it will be squeezed to hear it squeak, and as you stuff with fiberfill and bury into Blockety either one or two cat balls or a squaker. Sew top block and fasten off.
Note 2- If you have chosen to stuff the toy and insert a squaker, the ducky will squeak when you squeeze the block, and it is a totally different effect than you get with the rattling ball inside.

You can find very affordable squeakers (believe it or not, at dog toy supplies like Sitstay.com ---Not associated in any way with us. Or in any place that sells grunters and squakers for stuffed dog toys.)

You're done!

Rnd 16- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, [1 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc] rep 3 times, 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. (16 sc)

Cut a good amount of strong thread, fold in half and thread a sewing needle with it. Bend the plastic canvas into a tube and sew the side, top and bottom of it to secure it.

Handle Cover-

Row 14- 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Fold this cover around the tube you just made.
Insert a bell into the tube if you want, (I did. The cat ball pack brought some that had spikes on them. I took a pair of flat plyers and pulled
them open, got the bell out and dropped into the tube. You can also drop 3 or 4 dried beans into the tube.) That way there will be more rattling and more fun for baby.

Thread the blunt needle with Tea Leaf yarn and by making long stitches, close the bottom of the tube. Fasten off, weave in tail. Repeat with the top of the tube. Fasten off. Weave in tail.
Insert the top of the tube into the bottom of Pomelo's head. Fasten off Spring Green while leaving a long tail to sew with. Thread blunt needle with that tail and sew all around tube. Fasten off.
Weave in tail.
Done! Baby has a new toy.

Funmigurumi Monkeyroo Baby Rattle—3: "Jiggles"

Best Blog Tips

I did not name my first rattle, but decided to name this one to make it a little more fun.
This is a very easy baby toy to make. I made it as colorful as possible (for a monkey), although by the time I finish making a whole bunch of them, I will probably get "jungle wild" with color (it always happens!) So, here's "Jiggles," hope you like him!

Materials:Red Heart worsted weight yarn Cherry Red
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Ranch Red
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Black (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Bright Yellow or White (scraps)
Crochet hook size H
Crochet hook size F
Blunt needle
Scissors
Measuring tape
Pins
Fiberfill
2 Cat balls with a bell inside

Body (Make 2)- With Cherry Red and H hook, Ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in second ch from hook. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 3- 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around.
Rnd 4- 2 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 5- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around.
Rnd 6- 1 sc in each of first 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of last 4 sc.
Rnd 7- 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 8- 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with in one of the two pieces.
Belly Patch- With Cerry Red and H hook, Ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in second ch from hook. Sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 3- 1 sc in each sc around. Rnd 4- 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. Sew to center of front of Body. Fasten off.
Head- With Cherry Red and H hook, ch 2. Rnd 1- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. (6 sc) Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc) Rnd 3- 1 sc in 1st sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. (16 sc) Rnds 4 to 6- 1 sc in each sc around. (16 sc) Rnd 7- Insert cat toy ball into crocheted head. Make 1 sc in first sc, sc2tog over nest 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in last sc. (13 sc) Rnd 8- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, [sc2tog over next 2 sc] rep to end of round. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Rnd 9- 1 sc in each sc around. (13 sc) Rnd 10- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc [sc2tog over next 2 sc] rep to end of row. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Tail- With Ranch Red and H hook, ch 20. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in same ch, 4 sc in next ch and in each ch across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Pin Belly Patch to Front center of Body and sew using leftover tail. Fasten off. (Making a Belly Patch will give the rattle a little bit more of a roly-poly shape.) Thread blunt needle with tail leftover in one of Body pieces and sew both Front and Back of body together, leaving a good sized opening at the top to fill in.
Sew Tail to the very center of Back of Body. Fasten off. Set body aside for now.
Muzzle- With Ranch Red and H hook, ch 2. Rnd 1- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. Ch 2, turn. Row 2- Work 4 hdc in same spot at ch 2, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc. Sl st in next sc, ch 2, 4 hdc in same stitch, sl st in nest sc. Fasten off, leaving tail to sew with.
Pin to center of face and sew in place. Fasten off.
Eyes and Mouth- With Black and F hook, make Eyes as follows: Ch 2. Row 1- Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. Pin right above muzzle, to the side, and sew in place. Fasten off. Mouth- Thread blunt needle with Black again, and inserting it through the open neck of the toy, embroider Mouth as seen in photos. Fasten off. To give more expression to Eyes, make a single dot on each one with Bright Yellow or White. Ears (Make 2)- With Cherry Red and H hook, ch 2. Rnd 1- Work 6 sc in second ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew with. Sew two pieces each to each other, leaving bottom open. Sew each resulting ear to the side of the head where you left the opening, making sure you do it at the same level.
The reason I prefer to do it this way is because those ears are going to get grabbed and we don't want them to be flimsy.
Arms and Legs are in the form of "handles" for baby to grab.
Arms and Legs- Arms: Row 1- Join Ranch Red to bottom of front of body and with H hook, Ch 14 (I actually went through the two thicknesses in the already sewn body) skip 7 sc, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 2- 1 sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Row 3- 1sc in each sc across. Fasten off. Repeat on opposite side with other Arm.
Legs: Skip 1 sc below the end of "Arm" and join Cherry Red to next sc, and with H hook, ch 12. Row 1- Skip 3 more sc, 1 sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 2- 1 sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Row 3- Rep row 2. Fasten off.
Repeat on opposite side for second Leg. Fasten off.

Insert second toy ball into body and stuff all around it. (You can substitute the second ball for a squaker, if you wish.) Thread blunt needle with Ranch Red and close top of Body. Fasten off and weave in tails. Sew head to top of Body using leftover tail. Fasten off. Weave in end.

You're done!

Pattern has been corrected thanks to MadCrocheter. Thank you so much for your help!

Funmigurumi Poochie Dog No. 4: Toby

Best Blog Tips

I got the idea for Toby and had to let it go round and round my mind for a little bit before I could put it together, but here he is! His textured face will be a lot of fun for any Ami lover, young or old.
You might think that it would have been easier to have made Toby using the loop stitch, but that stitch wasn't going to give me the look I wanted, that is the reason why I made Toby this way.
Materials:
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Bright Yellow
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Black
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Soft Brown
Crochet hook size H
Crochet hook size C or B
Pins
Fiberfill
Scissors
Blunt needle
Body (make 2)- With Bright Yellow and H hook, ch 33. Row 1- 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across (32 sc). Ch 1, turn. Rows 2 to 31- make 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. If you want to, sew bottom and sides of body as soon as you have finished both sides (I like to finish as I go, it makes the toy come alive quicker), leaving the top open for stuffing. Place both right sides facing and sew the sides and the bottom using the tails you left as you crocheted. Fasten off. Turn both inside out and set aside.
Muzzle-Ch 8. Rnd 1- 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch till 1 chain before end of row, 2 sc in last ch of row. Turn arund and make 1 sc in each
of the loops of foundation chain until you reach the one before the last one, 2 sc in that last loop. Slip st to join round.
Rnd 2- 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, *1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around, slip st to join round.
Rnd 3- 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, rep from * around and slip st to join rnd.
Rnd 4- 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, rep from * around, slip st to join rnd.
Rnd 5- 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each ofnest 5 sc, rep from * around. Slip st to join rnd.
