Workshop demo
Pastel 6x8 (c) 2011
Nita Leger Casey
I had my first workshop at the studio today, it was a fun day ! with students who are eager to learn a new medium , the three of them did very well ! and went home with a few finish paintings done in Pastel .
Pastel can be confusing for someone the first time , so many different colors , so many types and brand , pencil, hard pastels , soft pastels , then we have the many different papers and surfaces . so it was a full day of experimenting and painting . I will repeat this day one day workshop next month .

Studio light

The studio is taking shape !

Today I did paint in it for the first time , on canvas that is , no walls ! it felt very nice and very peaceful , no phone calls, no TV in the background ,no dog wanting to go out , no vacuum looking at me no yard calling my name and laundry to be fold ! Just me and my canvas and paint! I am so looking forward to create new paintings in this studio .
This painting was inspired by a beautiful entrance to a school in Manchester .I took artist license to change a few things , it's a 16x20 oil on canvas .

I painted two pastels witch I think is a wonderful medium to use when painting flowers and gardens , it was great to be plein air painting today ,a warm up for my trip to Maine in two weeks with the Pastels Painters of Maine .

The Gazebo, copyrighted 2009 by Nita Leger Casey
Pastel 5x7

Thinking I would have a terrible day today , because I had Jury duty, I was in luck when the case did not go to trial , I was out by 10:45 , just in time to join all my friend painting plein air in a beautiful private property with all the trees in bloom , and a gracious hostess who made us a lunch ,what more could you ask? and I was able to do two daily paintings. At the court, I managed to do some sketching of a few the jurors reading the paper , it's something i would like to practice more it's figure sketching .

The Secret Garden

I have been working a commission all day, it was a good thing because the temperature was very cold , but I see Florida is also in a deep freeze .
I decided to post a past commission , from one one my collectors , She wanted a painting of her late Mom in a rose garden , an avid gardener , she wanted to remember her this way, a beautiful lady she was and for her to have this special heirloom necklace on , with only a few snapshots I was able to create the Secret Garden . A challenge ,but very enjoyable one.
