Luau on Spectacle Island (Boston Harbor Islands)
Boston Harbor Cruises and Boston Harbor Now have added some fun events to their summer lineup. They've partnered with Barbara Lynch Gruppo for the food portion, making a trip to the harbor and islands even better this summer. There's now a sunset cocktail cruise, a brunch cruise, clambake on Spectacle Island, and also a luau on Spectacle Island. I recently got invited to experience one of the events and I went with the luau.
The ferry to the luau boards at 5:30pm each Sunday in the summer from Boston's Long Wharf.
The setup for the luau was quite cute, with the colorful plastic plates
In addition to the roast pork, there were three side dishes: macaroni and potato salad, rice noodles, and tomato lomi lomi .
There were more than enough food for everyone. We got multiple refills of the lomi lomi, salad, and pork.
For dessert: coconut pudding.
Water and soda is included in the luau ticket, but alcoholic drinks were not. But they have beers and wines for sale for $6 each, which wasn't a bad price. I tried this canned rose wine from Lodi, California.
Given the timing of the luau, we also got to watch the sunset over the Boston skyline from Spectacle Island!
A visit to Spectacle Island is a great way to spend a summer day in Boston, and having a pork-filled luau makes it even better. There's enough time after eating to stroll around the island.
Tickets to the luau are $75 per person and includes round trip ferry ride and the food, water, and soda. You can purchase tickets to the luau here.
