Friday cat blogging

Cats report something is missing. I don't think it is us.

They'll be fine. Allan is on the job. And we all know what, as far as Janeway and Mio are concerned, is the main job.

Friday cat blogging

Janeway and Mio keep watch on their perches. Fortunately, he doesn't attempt to sit on the window hammock. I am sure it would not support his bulk.

Bonus Cuban cat via Peripatetic House Partner; she's been getting around again:

Nice cat, nice tile floor.

Friday cat blogging

The cats seem happy to have Erudite Partner back from the Reno campaign. She has resumed one domestic habit -- snapping pictures of the beasts. They seem to figure there's someone else who opens cans.

Friday cat blogging

Sometimes I feel as if I were under surveillance. I wonder what Janeway and Mio think I might do if they didn't keep watch on me?

Friday cat blogging

No matter how hard she tries, Janeway can't get at the little men. She gets bored quite easily. She took no interest in the political debates, but does notice football. Hmm...

Friday cat blogging

I think this was about a leaf. When she's curled up demurely, Janeway looks a little thing ... then she extends.

Meanwhile, Mio, the nearly 20 pound monster cat, tries to sneak up on me enticingly.

So far, the curtains Janeway loves to claw are intact. Will they survive having them both in the same sunbeam?

They look out.

They check out the view to their rear.

Just another day in the front window.

Friday cat blogging

On the side windows of our house, we hang "glass curtains" (translucent curtains). After all, we're urban. Our neighbor's windows are less than 10 feet away. We give each other some privacy. But we still want the light.

On our return from vacation, the damage was unmistakable.

So was the culprit. Something had impeded Janeway's view from her perch.

Replacement was easy and cheap.
But how long will the new curtains last? She is not exactly a tame feline.

Friday cat blogging

I often feel I am under intensive surveillance. Those boring eyes!

Janeway and Mio seem to feel its their job to keep track of me. Might I escape? Might I go where they are are not allowed to go? --- that would be "out".

Friday cat blogging

Meet Pancake. She oversees her home, neighborhood, and humans in Sheffield, England. She too often brings home partially eviscerated mice, but is otherwise the sweetest of domestic companions.

On the home front, Janeway and Mio are alert for passing birds or interesting people. Many passersby wave to them. To their frustration, they are not, unlike Pancake, allowed to go out to chase.

I had hoped to returned to this blog with post-vacation energy, but instead find myself tired and feverish. Tests say not COVID, so I should come around soon enough.

Friday cat blogging

Sometimes it appears as if Mio and Janeway think their job is sitting for a portrait.

Of course, at any moment, this tableau can turn into a whirl of fluffed tales and flying leaps. But meanwhile, what an appealing posture! Might they be trying to tell a stupid human that it is time to open a can?

Friday cat blogging

This is where Janeway and Mio landed after a vigorous bout of chasing. He could get up to the lookout, but given his girth, he's more likely to hide underneath. If he emerges unwarily, she might yet jump him.

Might as well also show their favorite activity which gives a good sense of the sizes.

Friday cat blogging

The cats are glad to have their humans back in town, I think. They certainly don't improve productivity at the key boards.

Friday cat blogging and more

We flew home to the cats (and our people) yesterday. The felines seem happy enough to see us -- or at least to sleep alongside us.

Janeway resumed her morning perch on my lap.

Mio looked a little wide-eyed as usual.

But they both seem to accept that we belong here along with them. Bet they miss their friend Allan though.

We flew, first in a small plane from the Island; then Boston-Logan to San Francisco. At the ground level when we departed, all was fog. But soon this was the view over southern Massachusetts.

The news of the Trump's guilty verdict came through while we sat in the gateway waiting for our cross-country flight. Erudite Partner shouted "GUILTY" to no one in particular. All sorts of women rushed up to high-five us.

The country has a long way to go, but we are in this together.

Friday cat blogging

Janeway and Mio are doing a good job overseeing Alln in our absence. Who knows what he'd get into without them to remind him to feed and love them?

Friday cat blogging

They seem fond of each other and mostly get along. But they are different.

Little Janeway can seem almost elegant, sultry, in her sun beam. You could forget she's a small demon with teeth and claws.

Nearby, the bulk of big boy Mio sometimes makes him look just silly. We think they are both happy, but what do we know?

Friday cat blogging

We think Mio considers E.P's laptop a kind of heating pad. Not sure if that stare means "what you gonna do about it?" Shifting Mio is heavy lifting.
Janeway can pretend to be so demure -- right before she gets the zoomies and leaps over Mio and the couch ...

Friday cat blogging

The cats greet each other to meet the day.

Mio is such a big boy that one often wonders what's with the unseen far side of the cat. Janeway seems fond of her big, blundering brother.

Friday cat blogging

There was a sunbeam. Mio and Janeway shared it amicably. It's their sunbeam, not our kitchen table. This is life around here. There's the cat team and the human team.
