the story of a crime (1962)

The original title is История одного преступления. Apparently "Story of a crime" is considered a somewhat important short animated film, if it having its own Wikipedia article demonstrates that this is so, although I guess that's an arguable proposition.

It was the first animated short made by one Fyodor Khitruk(1917-), at the age of 45. I gather he worked as an assistant for other animation directors beforehand. (Apparently he's still around, having published a book on animation in 2008.) This is part 1, above. Part 2 is directly below.

notebook babies?

more blogging laziness. in fact I've decided that I will use less capitalization here at HZ er, hz, no HZ from now on, only capitalizing proper nouns and the word "I", which seems appropriate insofar as blogs are creations of a busy yet indolent society with an excessively inward gaze. also it's a labor savings thing.

Anthony, the guy who did the short animation above says:

Notebook Babies are short animated films I create as a teacher to help motivate my fifth graders to learn. Check out the official website at www.notebookbabies.com for more info.

the river of freedom

the narrator is Orson Welles, unmistakable to people my age and older. Ok, it's a little corny and late-M*A*S*H preachy, but it's also poignant and strangely relevant.
