Friday's Ferrari

The Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000 celebrated 50 years of Formula One and today's photograph shows two cars in the pit lane setting out as part of a parade of cars round the circuit marking the event.
There were two Ferrari Dino 246 F1 cars listed in the Pre 1961 Grand Prix Cars Race in the programme of the event, that of Nigel Corner, chassis #0007, number 52 in the race, and Robin Lodge's car, chassis #0006. Robin Lodge has two cars listed for this race, the Ferrari and his recently re-created 1954 Lancia D50, both numbered 42, because of a doubt about the eligibility of the Lancia to take part. In the end Robin Lodge drove the Lancia and the Ferrari took part in the race driven by Willie Green, and it looks as if it was renumbered as 54 - the highest numbered car in the race programme being 53. The blue car behind the Ferrari is the 1949 Talbot Lago T26C of Tony Bianchi that took part in the Pre 1952 Grand Prix Cars Race, and is chassis #110 008.

Friday's Ferrari

This photograph was taken at the VSCC Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies Meeting at Donington Park in May 2001.
It's a Ferrari Dino 246 F1 and, though it's got no race numbers, only one Dino is shown in the programme of the event and that's Robin Lodge's 1959 model, chassis number 0006. It's shown in the entry list for 'The Ron Flockhart Memorial Trophy Race For Post War, Pre 61 Racing Cars' and I can't even remember if it ran in that race because the entry list for Robin Lodge shows that he nominated two alternatives, the Dino and his 1954 Lancia D50. I don't know if the Lancia was present as I haven't got a photograph of it taken on that day, but that's possibly because I spent so much time looking at and photographing the C-Type and D-Type Auto Unions which were the meeting's star attractions.

Friday's Ferrari

This is a car which took part in the Maserati UK Race for Pre-1961 Grand Prix Cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1999.
It's a 1959 Ferrari Dino 246 F1 car, driven in the race by its owner Robin Lodge and appears to be serial number 0006. I understand that Ferrari, and in fact Maserati and other Italian racing teams, would often test racing cars on the public roads and a kind of temporary registration number would be stencilled on the car, as we see on the rear of this Ferrari - it's something like the trade plates we use in this country. The 'prova' stands for 'test', 'MO' indicated 'Modena' and the '31' is just a numerical identifier. Presumably it's on this car to show some kind of period authenticity.
