1970 Brabham BT34

This was one of the competitors in the Silverstone International Trophy Race for Pre-1978 Grand Prix Cars at the Silverstone Historic Festival meeting in August 2001.
It's a 1971 Brabham BT34, a car designed by Ron Tauranac who placed the car's radiators in front of the front wheels in order to fit a wing to give downforce at the front. Because of the unusual look of the bulky radiators at the front of the car the BT34 was dubbed the 'lobster claw'. Only one BT34 was built and it was powered by the 2,993cc V8 Ford Cosworth DFV engine. Graham Hill drove the car in the 1971 season without much success, his best result being fifth place in the Austrian Grand Prix, although he did win the International Trophy Race at Silverstone. In 1972 the car was driven by Carlos Reutemann and Wilson Fittipaldi, the best result being Carlos Reutemann's win in the non-Championship Brazilian Grand Prix. It was driven in this race at Silverstone by Ean Pugh.

1968 BRM P133

The Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998 marked 50 years of racing at the circuit with a display of 50 cars marking each of those 50 years, some of which also took part in track parades throughout the weekend. This is the car that was chosen to represent 1968.
It's the 3 litre V12 1968 BRM P133 of Ean Pugh - at least that's what it says in the programme of the event. The P133 was produced in Bourne by BRM following the design of Len Terry's P126 which was built by his own Transatlantic Automotive Consultants company. There is some suggestion that the car pictured above is actually a P126. Only two examples of the P133 were built, the second of which was written off in an accident at the 1968 Monaco Grand Prix by Pedro Rodriguez. The remaining P133 was driven in the 1968 season by Pedro Rodriguez, and by Jackie Oliver in the first part of the 1969 season. The programme of the event made this brief mention of the car:

‘The BRM concern had its ups and downs but 1968 was one of its better years, and the 3-litre P133, as raced by Pedro Rodriguez, will certainly bring memories flooding back.’

Pedro Rodriguez didn’t win any of the races that year, but he had a second place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix, and two third, a fourth and a sixth place finish to end the season in sixth place in the World Drivers’ Championship table.'

1968 BRM P133

This was one of the competitors in the F.O.R.C.E. Pre-1972 Classic Grand Prix Cars Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1999.
A second BRM P133 entered by Robs Lamplough took part in this race at Silverstone, and that one appears to be the surviving BRM P133/01.

Brabham

Two Brabhams took part in the Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship race in the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006 and here are photographs of both cars.

This is the Brabham BT49C driven in the 1981 season by Nelson Piquet and Hector Rebaque, Piquet winning the World Drivers Championship and Rebaque finishing in tenth place. In the Constructors Championship Brabham finished in second place to the Williams team.

Here is the car at Redgate Corner during the Saturday qualifying session driven by Joaquin Folch followed by the 1979 Arrows A1 driven by Rowland Kinch.

This is the other Brabham car in the race, the BT34 'Lobster Claw', again at Redgate Corner and driven by Ean Pugh. The car, designed by Ron Tauranac, was driven with no great success in the 1971 World Championship by Graham Hill who finished in a lowly twenty first position with only two points.
