1939 Talbot Lago T150C

This car competed in the Bill Phillips Trophy Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.
It's a 1939 Talbot Lago T150C and was driven at this meeting by the owner, John Guyatt, seen here at Druids corner. The only other detail about the car in the programme of the event is that it had a 4 litre engine. The Talbot company had gone into receivership in the 1930s during the Great Depression and Antonio Lago, who had been appointed managing  director, bought the company from the receiver in 1936 and renamed it Talbot-Lago. The engines developed by the company for its sporting models were 6-cylinder inline 2,996cc and 3,996cc units, the T150C being powered by the larger of these engines.

This car competed in the Redgate Mug Race for Standard & Modified Pre-war Sports Cars at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

Kurtis Offenhauser KK500G

I took this photograph at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004 where the car took part in the Ron Flockhart Memorial Trophy Race.
Shown in the programme of the event as the Kurtis-Indy single seater of John Guyatt, it's a 4.2 litre 1957 Kurtis Offenhauser KK500G and it was driven in the race by Stuart Harper. This car took part in the 1957 Indianapolis 500 race as the Meguiar Mirror Glaze Special, and also took part in the USA v Europe Race of Two Worlds at Monza in 1957 and 1958 driven by Ray Crawford.

On 23 November 2017 I showed another photograph of the car that I had taken at this Donington Park meeting.

Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS

The two cars shown here both competed in the MicroProse Spirit of Speed race for Pre-War Sports Cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in August 1999.
They are two examples of the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS, and both are 1929 models. UU 9125 is the car of John Guyatt, who partnered Colin Warrington in the race. It is chassis 0312905, which was originally owned by Dr J D Benjafield who is more famous for winning the 1927 Le Mans 24 Hour race with Sammy Davis in a Bentley. UU 79 was entered Mrs Tricia Pilkington and driven in the race by Alex and Erika Pilkington. This car, chassis 0312909, was originally owned by the Hon. Anthony Brunner and is the car in which Boris Ivanowsky won the 1929 Irish Grand Prix at Phoenix Park.

Kurtis Offenhauser KK500G

This car contested the Ron Flockhart Memorial Trophy Race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.
It's John Guyatt's 1957 Kurtis Offenhauser KK500G, which took part in the Indianapolis 500 race as the Mirror Glaze Special. Stuart Harper drove the 4.2 litre car at Donington Park, and it was shown in the programme of the event as a Kurtis-Indy single seater.

Stutz Blackhawk

Here's a couple of cars that took part in the 2 hour VSCC Pre-War Sports-Car Team Relay Race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006.
They're both 1929 Stutz Blackhawks, the one above being the car of John Guyatt and the one below is that of George Holman.

This article tells you about John Guyatt's car, SV 8089, and this one has details of George Holman's car, BS 9278. It seems that both cars took part in the 1929 Le Mans 24 Hour race.

Talbot Lago T150C

This car took part in the Redgate Mug Race for Standard & Modified Pre-war Sports Cars at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.
It's a 1939 Talbot Lago T150C and was driven at this meeting by the owner, John Guyatt. The only other detail about the car in the programme of the event is that it had a 4 litre engine. I can't find out much about the T150C, but a Bonhams article about a T150C with a Pourtout Aerocoupé body which came up for auction contained the following information:

'In 1934, he (Tony Lago) tasked his engineer, Walter Brecchia, to upgrade the existing model Talbot T120 to the T150, by designing a new hemispherical combustion chamber cylinder head for the three-liter engine. To accommodate the new engine, Lago built three new cars and entered them in Concours d’Elegance in the Bois de Boulogne in June 1934. Tony’s theatrical background was evident. The three cars, painted in the red, white and blue of the French tricolor, were accompanied by three well-known female racing drivers, all in elegantly tailored outfits the color of their cars, topped off with berets. Under the hood lurked the old T120 engine, the new head not yet being ready. The following weekend, Tony’s sideshow was presented to the elite of the French motoring industry at an affair at the Prince of Wales hotel, after which the three ladies again paraded their cars in another concours sponsored by a Paris newspaper.

Lago ultimately got his revised cylinder head and continued to try and give his Talbots a performance image despite slow sales. A privateer entered an ungainly three-liter T150 sedan at Le Mans in 1935 and ran as high as 11th before retiring. The next year French authorities changed the class displacement limits for sports car racing with breaks at 2 and 4 liters. Lago responded with a 4-liter version of the T150, but 1936 was neither successful in racing nor sales, as the recession in France deepened. Lago’s flair for showmanship was not to be denied, even under the circumstances. In the fall, he arranged for a new hemi-head T150 to attempt to pack 100 miles into an hour on the banked portion of the Montlhèry course. The foray was successful and Talbot-Lago’s stature grew in the sporting community.

After staving off bankruptcy, it all came right in 1937, with a new, lightweight T150 C. The lightweight and the older 4-liter both began winning and racked up successes at Marseilles, where they finished 1-2-3-5, Tunisia, Montlhèry (1-2-3) and the British Tourist Trophy.'
