1953 MG TD

This is a photograph that I took at a Vintage and Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1988.
It's a 1953 MG TD and has the 4-cylinder inline 1,250cc XPAG engine. The MG T-Type started with the TA in 1936 and ended with the TF which was produced from 1953 to 1955. The T-Type was superseded by the MGA.

1948 Standard 12 Coupé

This was one of the participants in a Vintage and Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1988.
It’s a 1948 Standard 12 Coupé with a 4-cylinder inline 1,608cc side valve engine - 9,959 Standard 12’s were produced between 1945 and 1948.

1937 Daimler Light 6

This is one of the cars that took part in a Vintage & Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1987.
It's not shown in the programme of the event but I made a note at the time that it was s 1937 Daimler Light 6. The DVLA record says that it was last taxed up to April 2014 and shows the engine capacity as 3500cc so it would seem therefore to be a 1937 Daimler 24, which had a 3,317cc straight-6 engine.

1934 Lagonda Rapier

This was one of the participants in a Vintage and Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1988.
It's a 1934 Lagonda Rapier and has a 4-cylinder 1,250cc engine with twin overhead camshafts. The Rapier was in production from 1934 to 1938.

1937 Austin 7 Ruby

This is one of the participants in a Vintage and Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1987.
It's a 1937 Austin 7 Ruby saloon and has the 4-cylinder inline 747cc engine. It's the second version of the Ruby that was produced from 1936 to 1939.

1931 Austin Swallow

I took this photograph at a Vintage & Historic Vehicle Display in Saddleworth organised by organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1987.
It's a 1931 Austin Swallow, one of about 3,500 cars produced by William Lyons' Swallow Sidecar Company between 1927 and 1932 before he started making cars using the SS name. The car was based on the chassis of the Austin Seven with the 7hp 4-cylinder inline 747cc Austin engine, though the DVLA record says that KF4626 now has an engine of 858cc. A note in the programme of the event says this about the car:

'1934 Austin Swallow, 7 h.p., KF 4626. The car was found in a barn in
Saddleworth 10 years ago. It has been totally renovated by the owner.
It took six years to get it into the condition it is in now'

1937 Lanchester Eleven

This is one of the cars I photographed at a car display arranged by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1987.
It's a 1937 Lanchester Eleven, about 2,000 of which were produced between 1937 and 1940 was developed from the Lanchester Ten with a 1,444cc 4-cylinder inline engine.

BMW Isetta

In June 1987 the Saddleworth Museum arranged a Vintage & Historic Vehicle Display & Run that started in Greenfield and ended in Uppermill. I took this photograph of one if the entrants at the King George V Playing Fields in Uppermill.
It's a 1959 BMW Isetta with a single-cylinder four-stroke 295cc engine. The car was introduced by Iso in 1953 with a 236cc two-stroke engine and cars were soon being built on license in several different countries, including Germany where the BMW Isetta became the best known of the Isetta vehicles. BMW uprated the engine to 295cc, and in 1957 Isetta of Great Britain started producing the car under license in Brighton. The whole of the front of the car  hinges outward, meaning that the steering wheel, which is attached to the door, has to be on the hinged side, so this is a left-hand drive car and is probably one of the German BMW Isettas.

On 15 June 2015 I showed a photograph of a BMW Isetta at the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Par, Manchester in September 1998.

MG J2

This is a photograph I took in June 1987 at a 'Vintage & Historic Vehicle Display & Run' organised by Saddleworth Museum. It was taken at the King George V Playing Fields in Uppermill.
The car is a 1931 MG J2 and the programme of the event says this about the car:

1931 MG, 1275cc, 6 cyl, JW 3166. Rare model MG. Restored by owner and wife from box of bits.

The names of the owner and his wife aren't given, but I have found a reference to the car in the MG bulletin of 20 September 2009 bulletin of the Triple-M Register (which is part of the MG Car Club) and in 2009 the car was owned by Steve Clarke.

Wikipedia says this about the J2:

'The J2, a road-going two-seater, was the commonest car in the range. Early models had cycle wings, which were replaced in 1933 by the full-length type typical of all sports MGs until the 1950s TF. The top speed of a standard car was 65 mph (105 km/h), but a specially prepared one tested by The Autocar magazine reached 82 mph (132 km/h). The car cost £199.
The most serious of the J2's technical failings is that has only a two-bearing crankshaft, which can break if over-revved. The overhead camshaft is driven by a vertical shaft through bevel gears, which also forms the armature of the dynamo. Thus any oil leak from the cambox seal goes into the dynamo brushgear, presenting a fire hazard.
Rather than hydraulic brakes the car has Bowden cables to each drum. Although requiring no more pedal force than any other non-power-assisted drum brake if they are well maintained, the drums themselves are small, and even in period it was a common modification to replace them with larger drums from later models.'

Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A

Uppermill is a village which is in the civil parish of Saddleworth, part of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham and lies in a valley of the South Pennines about 4½ miles east of Oldham. Saddleworth Museum is in the middle of Uppermill, only a small museum but well worth a visit if you're in the area. Here's a couple of photographs I took there in October 1983 when one of the exhibits was a 1928 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A.

The car was apparently sold at auction by Bonhams in 2007
