Last weekend we did something we've never done before...We took a 2.5 year old to a yurt that we started skiing to at 9pm. We got there at midnight due to a major meltdown (I did not have the meltdown). It was not the smartest thing we've ever done, but it was sure fun. JP was a Himalayan Sherpa (his words) by pulling Breck and a bunch of our gear the entire way. I don't know how he did it, because I was dying just carrying a little bit of our gear. It was about 6 miles uphill, but it felt like 30 for some reason. Actually, the last mile was the only hard one and it was because my knees hurt so bad from the incline. Breck was a trooper on the way up too. I think she just got really bored which led to some screaming and her telling us that her babies were crying (code for her toes), so I told stories about princesses until she got sick of that, then we pulled out some Dora (she has a slight addiction and tells us she "neeeeeeds DOWA"), which worked like a charm. She was happy the rest of the way.
Matt and Katy invited us and 2 other couples to the trip. We don't have any group pics, but they're out there somewhere. Instant friendships were formed and we hope to have many adventures with the group in the future. Breck slept longer than anyone, which was apparently an answer to Katy's prayers :). In the morning, the group took off for a ski tour. Brecken and I stayed back to make snow angels and play in the snow. A snowman was attempted, but the snow was too dry. Normally I would be slightly jealous that I missed out on skiing some fresh powder, but I was so happy to stay and play with Brecken that I didn't even care.
After we played in the snow, we went and warmed up by the fire. We made hot chocolate and Brecken added Reeses PB to the mug and drank it through a red vine. She was on a sugar high for the rest of the day. Yes, that's the hot chocolate covering her shirt.
It was a LOT of work, but it was definitely worth it.
