Violets & A Pear

oil 8x8 inches Get a closer look and purchase information here. Oops! Here's one more painting from April that I never posted! This little pot of African Violets are from my kitchen. This is a pretty little painting, especially seen in person all because of that lovely subtle shadow.

Violets & Lemon -a still life painting in oil

oil 8x8 inches magnify/purchase info Without much effort at all painters can try something new to keep things fresh. Just pick up a different brush than you're used to. I painted this with soft round brushes rather than my usual springy, chisel-like flats. I used Silver Brush Company's Ruby Satins. I was surprised how much more fluid my strokes could be while swinging the brush around, probably just because they had no corners! I hope you like it. Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow moms out there!

African Violets II

oil on canvas panel 6x8 inches
sold
Our recent rainstorms have prevented me from photographing and posting, but not from painting. I was glady holed-up inside over the weekend with my bookworm hubby, my fluffy assistant and my paints. These kitchen violets were painted on a pink ground to complement the greens and retain the clean blossom color. A lavender background gives it an airy feel.

Last night's Fontana Arts Festival was fantastic---a well organized event with awesome musical performances and a variety of visual arts on display. The best part for me was painting and interacting with curious onlookers. You can see my subject on the table in the next photo below. As the sun set the foliage was more and more backlit. I stuck with the black tablecloth for my background, letting my pink ground peek through in places. I finished just before the sun went down. Whew!

I had two tables loaded with my daily paintings in oil, my print rack with prints and original watercolors, and framed pieces hanging at the back. My hubby helped me throughout---thanks, honey! It was a wonderful artsy evening.
