Another Clutch

Another clutch for the collection! I think this is one of my favorite prints so far. It reminds me of Matisse's paper collages.

New Pin Cushion

My original pin cushion was a decent attempt as my first try, but I decided I wanted to make a bigger and better one...

I have to say, I'm pleased with the results.

Clutches!

A new pattern I made and a weekend trip to the fabric store lead to a sewing frenzy!

More to come!

Little Minnie

Embroidered Buttons

While on a walk downtown this weekend I stopped in to visit one of my favorite little shops in Columbia, The Butterfly Tattoo. Contrary to the common misconception, this shop does not specialize in body art. However, it does specialize in arts, crafts, paper goods, home decor, kids toys & clothing, and handmade jewelry. While there, I came across a crewel embroidery kit for 50% off (not to mention a yard of vintage fabric for $0.50!) A few hours later...voila!

I still haven't decided what to do with it....any ideas?
Visit www.thebutterflytattoo.com to shop for kits like this and all kinds of neat stuff.
Go to www.woolandhoop.com to shop for this kit and other products by this artist.

Come celebrate Earth Day with us!

Ok, so it's a little early to be taking about Earth Day (or is it?) but I wanted to share the exciting news that my fellow crafter Caitlin and I will be selling our handmade goods at this year's annual Columbia Earth Day Festival! Check out Caitlin's website at www.caitcreates.weebly.com.
Come out and see us on Sunday, April 17th.

New Website!

It's official. I've created a website. Visit http://www.katpinsandneedles.weebly.com/ to view and purchase my arts and crafts.

Audrey

Her long sleeves and scarf will surely keep her toasty warm for the winter.

This is Ivy.

I had a chance to use one of my new labels!

Owl Ornaments

I got this idea from Crate & Barrel and thought they'd make sweet holiday gifts for my coworkers. A handmade gift just seems more personal, doesn't it? (And making cute owl ornaments is way more fun than buying them!)

....the third

Ok. So I'm becoming a bit obsessed with these Black Apple dolls. Today I went to Joann's to get more cotton fabric, muslin, and tiny buttons. I've realized who I'm reminding myself of...

Jillian Jiggs! If you read the Jillian Jiggs books as a kid you'll recall the shenanigans she often got into, her mother always rolling her eyes or sighing with exhaustion from her daughter's elaborate ideas. I'm thinking of one book in particular though...

Jillian decides to make stuffed pigs. After making one she realizes she needs another, and another...and another. There are just too many pig personalities to create. That's sort of how I feel about these quirky little dolls. In the back of the book there are instructions for making pigs just like Jillian's. I remember making one, realizing they weren't as cute as the ones in the book, and ditching the idea altogether. Anyway, I happen to think these Black Apple dolls are just too charming and simple to resist.

I think this one's an Ella...

Tiny coat and the like...

I couldn't help myself...After seeing Emily Martin's (Black Apple) Knitting Kitty doll and her tiny felt accessories, I had to make some for my own little lady (who has yet to be named...any suggestions?).
Here's Emily's Knitting Kitty doll....I'm sure you can see how I was inspired :)

Now all she needs is a name...and maybe some friends :)
