Garden party 3: Garden tour

This is the continuation of garden party series of posts after the harvest and the centerpieces. On the day of the party, we started of the party with tomato tasting and garden tour.
I forgot to photograph, the actual tomato tasting(it is hard to be the host and a photographer).

Small basket full of cherry tomatoes are as party favors to all attending guests.

After touring the main garden, everyone headed towards their favorite destination, the kitchen garden. If you are a regular reader to my blog, you know that my kitchen garden is on top of the hill.

As we headed towards kitchen garden we harvested some ripened figs on the way to snack on. They are as sweet as candy

Left side of the kitchen garden

As you see in frunt of the kitchen there is a picket fence. Without wasting any space, I grow tindora and squash on the picket fence.

Red spinach

Eggplant

Turmeric plant. Turmeric root grows under ground just like ginger

bitter melon

Ridge gourd vine

Beans on the other side of the fence

Beetroot

Indian cucumber(dosa kaya)

Of course, never ending supply of tomatoes

 Moringa tree

Ripened chillies to make pickle

My guests were very impressed to see all different kinds of vegetables growing in the garden.

After the garden tour, we headed towards farm to table dinner. Next post will feature the dinner.

Summer orchard tour

My garden-orchard is constantly changing.  Whenever I  think I am done with planting trees, there is always one more thing to plant. Now, I've realized I should accept that I will never be done with the garden. There is always something to add or delete. I've decided that I have enough fruit trees (over seventy) in the orchard. Now my goal is to add a few flowering trees in the orchard to bring color in the spring and summer. In the fall, the ripening fruit provides plenty of color in the orchard.

Summer is the most exciting time in the garden. Everything looks so luscious!

This particular apple tree never fails to produce a bumper crop year after year.

Creating a garden room

This is a garden room outside the family room to sit, relax, and dine with the family.  It is a space that transitions from the house to the garden. Garden walls are created with potted plants filled with beautiful foliage. My entire garden is a tropical garden. This space allows me to experiment with different color schemes. This is my spot to sit and sip a cup of chai overlooking the garden after full day of hard work.

Much needed shade is provided by the jasmine vine on the trellis all day

Gardening

Today, I am sharing my front garden. Even though my garden is a mature garden, I have been tweaking, deleting and adding throughout the years.  As I was walking into the house today, I thought this front garden was almost to the point where I wanted it to be. Well, for the time being, or until I find an another plant I can't wait to grow.
My front garden is mainly made up of many palm trees, bird of paradise, proteas and agapanthus. My idea is to build a tropical themed garden. The main color theme is orange and yellow, which is striking against green foliage. Recently I added an accent of color with Japanese maple. Now that all the bird of paradises are done blooming, the color is peeking out from the hibiscus and bougainvillea.
