Most people have today off. Most people that aren't writers. We don't ever really have a day off. Even when we aren't writing, our brains are still cataloging real-life events that might work in a story someday, creating new characters, thinking of titles for books not even plotted out, eavesdropping on interesting conversations when a curious line of dialogue catches our attention.

We're writers. We're always at work.

But for the rest of you...have a great day off!

Memorial Day

Take a moment to thank a veteran today, would you? This is a great country, made so much more so by the great men and women who've given of their time and their lives in the service of it.

As most of you know, Hotrod retired a few years ago after nearly 22 years in the Air Force. Today we're headed to the beach outside of Patrick Air Force base with our 5-year-old niece for some splashing, shell collecting, sun bathing and picnicking. Which reminds me...I need to make sandwiches and cut up the watermelon!

Chocolate and Losing Weight

Chocolate and losing weight rarely go hand in hand. However, I'm down 2 pounds this morning and craving chocolate like it's going out of style. Maybe I should stop googling chocolate Easter bunnies, but I can't help myself.

I wish I was getting an Easter basket. Mmm...chocolate...

Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day

Yeah, I know I missed it. (See the use of the word belated?) But I'm also not a even a tiny smidge Irish, so deal.

Why is St. Patrick's Day such a big to-do anyway? It's not like people of any nationality in this country need another excuse to drink.

I did get a kick out of seeing tons of people (whole families in some cases) dressed in green. Talk about funny!

On a side note, Hotrod and I went to see 300 last night. Bloody, not much story, but oh those abs!

Yeah, Yeah, I know what today is.

It's Valentine's Day. Big deal. It's also Hotrod's birthday. Guess which takes precedence? And actually, I'm okay with that. I'd rather celebrate Hotrod being around another year than some murky saint. (What? Is that sacrilege for a romance writer to say? Who cares, I love Hotrod more than a velveteen heart filled with truffles or a bundle of roses.)

But I encourage you to celebrate - the world needs more love. In fact, I challenge you to hug a stranger today. Seriously. Anyone who gets punched will receive two additional points. :o)

In other news, I don't know what your weather is like but we had a lovely evening swim last night. Is there a better way to see the stars than floating on your back beneath them? I think not. AND wonder of all wonders, I managed five pages yesterday despite my house guests.
